LTC and Dreamhack are both far more noteworthy as far as Smash(/Melee, I dunno about Smash 4) goes.

Here is the website Dreamhack is using for SFV. Their playoffs (top 32) is set up as a tradtional double elim bracket instead a new bracket with only winners. So hopefully, its just a misunderstanding.

The fuck? That can't be right. That's not how double elimination brackets work, Dreamhack.

Looking over their tournament information/rules, I found this:

Format: 1on1. Groups to Double Elimination bracket.

Game Settings: Versus, 99 seconds, 2/3 Rounds, Default Handicap, Random Stage Select. Groups to Double Elimination Bracket. 2/3 games until top 8, which is 3/5 games.

So the way that reads, yes it is groups that qualify you into a new top 32 double elim bracket. Very weird way to do things and makes winning your group meaningless except for seeding. Hopefully just miscommunication though and they do it normally.

Well, I guess that *kind* of makes sense, but generally speaking that sort of setup is usually done with some kind of round robin group stage for seeding into an elimination bracket. Kind of weird to do a double elimination bracket to put you into a fresh new double elimination bracket.
