PS2 games you remember very fondly but everybody else forgot

A more ambitious, more janky Tenchu game that was lost to the annals of late-PS2 history.

OP, no one will ever forget Spiderman 2.

I loved this one, finished it a lot of times. To be fair I used to love everything Free Radical did.

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy was the far less-remembered rival to this game.

Even though this was recently re-released on the PS4, I feel like it deserves more attention. I really liked the visual style, story, world building and crafting mechanics.

it seemed psi-ops at the time had way more people talking about it (probably due to it being more action oriented. releasing at around the same time with a similar premise didn't help, but it seems second sight didn't get any attention at all compared to psi-ops. which was a shame since it was imo, the better game.

Orphen
Chulip
Okage Shadow King
Stretch Panic
Full Metal Alchemist (both games)

I have never met anyone IRL who has played half of these games but these are some of my top favorite ps2 games ever.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex for PS2.

Surprisingly decent game. The platforming was extremely frustrating at times, though. But blasting away with sniper rifles and grenade launchers with Batou in multiplayer was solid dumb fun. The one manga/anime IP I really, really hope to fall into capable hands someday again.

Chaos Legion, all the Devil May Cry style but not much of the substance.

Anyone play this one? It was clunky but enjoyable in a guilty pleasure sorta way:

I remember the. hack games getting a lukewarm reception even back then, but I played the first two and really loved them. Usually I'm not into repetitive dungeon mashers, but the unique story (basically you were playing an MMORPG within the game, and had an interface where you received PMs from other players, read news etc) pulled me in and the gameplay was just super relaxing somehow. Never did get around to finishing it sadly, or the sequel games (.hack//GU). How were they?

I almost never see this game mentioned anywhere but it was my first PS2 game and I have very fond memories playing it.

A lot of good old games mentioned in this thread. Hail the king indeed.

Nobody talked about those yet so here we go :

Absolutely loved and 100%-ed both, you had to do multiple new game + for that.
I remember liking the CG and how each characters were different to play as, plus the main character of the first game (Caim) is in the sequel, same as the evil girl (Manah) which is actually playable in 2.

Never forget raining babies.

Hoping those will eventually hit PS2 on PS4 games.

Amazing game and better than Resident Evil, imho.

Sony should make a AAA sequel as soon as possible!

For me Front Mission 4 remains above everything.

I'm really sad that the true Front Mission stopped there.

I remember Freedom Fighters being super fun and well crafted in those days. I wonder how well it holds up. Time to give it another spin!!

EDIT: DAMMIT LOL..

One of mine that still gets occasional mentions is Radiata Stories. Fun RPG, a quite varied cast of recruitable characters, and it's one of very few long RPGs I've completed multiple times.

On the other hand, I've never heard anyone mention this game ever. It was a fun platformer where the main character could turn into other creatures to get into different areas. Not groundbreaking, but I liked it.

Huh, didn't know Drakan had a PS2 release. It's one of those games I heard about, knew was good, but never sat down to play. How does it hold up?

Honestly, I probably haven't played it in about 13 years. I have fond memories of it, and it's like a lite-action RPG which was something I felt worked really well on consoles, but I expect it hasn't aged as well as my memory thinks it has. I would definitely buy it if it popped up on PS4 for about £8 though. Worth bearing in mind that the original was on PC and was called Drakan: The Order of the Flame, while this was PS2 exclusive and as far as I know, Sony own the IP.

Kya Dark Lineage was a pretty sweet game. Other than the singing shopkeeper and the fact that the wolf enemies could a stunlock you if you weren't careful.

I'll also mention TimeSplitters here. Sure, people remember 2 and Future Perfect, but the original is largely forgotten.

Whoa, completely forgot about Chaos Legion, put quite a few hours into that back in college.

That and this 'gem'

Death by Degrees in NOT a good game at all but growing up loving Tekken I made myself enjoy it. It may of been a decent game if they opted for a more traditional control scheme.
Using the right analog for attacks was just a terrible idea.

Same here. Started the third game years ago but never finished it. One of the players ingame actually gets pregnant in real life which is pretty interesting.

Plane Escape Torment
I can't remember the actual name, but I played this game at my friend's place, the player controls a boy character in an open world and the boy had a horse. There are no enemies to fight and you basically just roam around and explore the world and use traversal skills like Prince of Persia. I remember it had very nice graphics at the time but didn't really get a chance to play the game for more than an hour or so. I remember my friend not liking the game because it was a "walking simulator" before that term was invented but I thought it was interesting.

Loved this game a lot, There's just something about the atmosphere that pulls me in.

I highly suggest you watch the retsupurae series on Shadow of Destiny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBBUQPn3dyU&list=PLo4M1tlpv9rupsbxLuYHnfJ7oW3d5R05r

They riff on the game as they play through it, it's hilarious even if you're a fan.

When you're done, listen to their retsutalk episode on the game with SoD fan and expert Hanna/E1ke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSGWXdTA6TI

Pretty sure nobody's forgotten Spider-Man 2 since it's the Spider-Man game almost everyone talks about when you talk about, well, Spider-Man games. Also, I think it's great, but definitely overrated.

As for me, this beauty:

Itching to play it now that I'm looking at it... But oh God, comic sans.

I remember really digging this back in the day. Weird little beat em up with really cool light saber weapons. The chain whip was badass.

Shadow of the Colossus?
It's certainly not forgotten, but it's an incredible game that you should definitely try out on the PS3 HD collection, along with Ico.

Oh man, I think I bought five times! Every digital platform there was. Probably my favorite Rockstar game, after Vice City!
