Red Dead Redemption heading to Xbox One Backward Compatibility this Friday

Do you like the idea of a story driven, open world, western?

That's what matters.

Well the parts of GTA is don't like are the controls, by the numbers gameplay, and uninteresting open world. Cities are boring as fuck as open worlds for me.

RDR might be better if its out in the open (which it should since its a western), and if it has a good story.

Yeah it's pretty much the same. Except no cars, no radios, a huge desert setting environment, a dead-eye slow motion mechanic, a big emphasis on hunting and skinning, really well written random events, incredibly fun and engrossing mini-games that add to the game rather than distract from it, an ending that is unlike any ending RockStar has ever done and a massive Zombie DLC that changes the game to a campy horror game. But other than those minor differences, they're all pretty much the same.

See the above.

For $7.50, give it a shot.

I dont understand the crazy excitement for this, with it not being a re-master. I mean, it was a great game, but I feel like people are losing their fucking minds over it when they probably have a copy sitting next to or on their 360.

Another question...... Multiplayer will be playable? Do BC games that have multiplayer played with only XB1 players or both systems?

Last I remember, current last gen online games are really plagued with players with hacked consoles. Looks I will be sticking to private lobbies with my friends.

The Posse rides again!!

There is no difference. The Xbox One just acts like its a 360. So all is 360.
Gamechanger.

Given the popularity of this game and the boost its getting with BC, I'm really surprised Microsoft didn't approach Rockstar about paying have a sequel developed given it seems Rockstar has zero intention of making one themselves.

a) both microsoft and sony may have tried to do that, we don't know

b) no way rockstar would do it. it would have to be way too much money

I'm sure they did. I would assume Rockstar would say no. Why take exclusivity for a game that they know everyone will be buying, while trying to give it to players on whatever platform possible?

Also, it's not like Rockstar needs the money from a deal like that.

Maybe now I'll finally play it. I bought it and the DLC ages ago, but never got around to it.

Also, I wonder if this has any connection to the latest emulator build updates. I remember people thinking it ran pretty well when it leaked months back, but perhaps it still had some issues in areas and the recent build finally managed to meet expectations. Or if it was just Rockstar holding it for some reason.

What? They said Red Dead was one of their core franchises after sales numbers for Redemption came out. There's no way it's not coming, Rockstar just has the luxury to take as long as they want. It will be glorious. For Microsoft to buy exclusivity would be a insane cost. RDR3 will sell 20 million + most of that on the PS4.

i could see them asking for a remaster but a sequel... no way i doubt rockstar would do it

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that GTA lacked cars, music, a huge city environment, shooting mechanics, resource gathering, and random events. I guess RDR really did revolutionize open world games and introduced boatloads of new mechanics never before seen in a video game.

/s

RDR is a good story with a nice environment that hasn't been done much of so I will give it credit for the western vibe. I refuse to accept that it's that different from GTA. I played it to completion and found it mildly enjoyable though tedious near the end as I feel with GTA games too. Props to the music, it was a nice way to pass the time while riding around until fast travel could be used.

And my wish list for last gen games gets one more item fullfilled. Four done, three to go.

- GTA 5 (done!)
- Dark Souls 2 (done!)
- Skyrim (soon!)
- Red Dead Redemption (or at least make it BC on Xbox One)

- Demon's Souls (please)
- Tokyo Jungle (I know, I know....it'll probably never happen)
- Katamari HD Collection (I want EVERY Katamari game, but at this point anything is welcome)

I sold my 360 and games when the XB1 launched. I can't be excited to play one of the best games of last gen for the first time?

MS said they do most of the games. Just for testing purpose also. Even of there is no approval yet. But that one leaked for some reason.

OMGOMGOMG!

I was so sad when my BC stopped working after it was available briefly but the wait is finally over sooooon! This has to be THE single most hyped BC game, no? And rightfully so.

I've bought the game but never played it. Here's hoping the BC Emulation is really solid!
It worked great over the few days I played it a while back.

But how much money?

Microsoft just drop 26 billions on Linkedin. I could think that exclusivity would not cost them 1/20 of this amount...

Timed exclusive perhaps...

I'm obviously working off the assumption that Rockstar were doing nothing with Red Dead given GTA is making them money hand over fist.

If they had every intention of making a Red Dead sequel then obviously they wouldn't go exclusive.

Meh... if they announced a remaster (PC version included), that would've been some news. Here, not much to get excited about... the possibility of a remaster is pretty much non-existent at this point, meaning the game will forever stay locked in its sad 720p/30 FPS (at best) state...

is a timed exclusive of a video game worth billions of dollars? sure microsoft has the war chest to make it happen but they would get no ROI

may as well just set a billion dollars on fire

Nah, the sequel has been in development for awhile. GTA V took around 6 years.

What do you think Rockstar San Diego is working on last 6 years? Rockstar Network has two lead studios now San Diego i North (as far as i know). They had 3rd one (Vancouver or Toronto i can't remember) that worked on Max Payne 3 but they closed it.

Xbox is not the entirety of Microsoft though, and Red Dead isn't LinkedIn.

While they as a company could afford an exclusivity deal, I doubt the Xbox division is going to be dropping that kind of money for one deal, even if it could help the brand. In order to cover the lost sales from PS4, MS would have to shell out numbers far exceeding the budget of even their biggest 1st party games. Like, multiplicative numbers. And of course, this assumes that Take-Two/Rockstar would take the deal, even if the number was high enough. It's not like they're strapped for cash, and they may view such a deal as damaging in the long run due to hurting their reputation with PlayStation fans.

Waste of money. I'm surprised that Microsoft hasn't made a bid for EA, B-softworks and Capcom.

CoD: Black Ops showed publishers can make some money via Xbox BC and dont have to spend a dime or do any real work. MS does it all for them.

Remaster wouldnt be out of the question but this cost Rockstar nothing

True, but then think of the PS4 install base and how many would buy a remaster, sell that for £40 and they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Anyway that's not going to happen, but at least the option is their for Xbox One BC. I think some have stated price increases have started to happen on second hand copies, that didn't take long.

This is one of the best games of ALL TIME! :D

Let me just tell you something, the 360 version is one of the best optimized games of the 7th gen era. Its basically a first party 360 title. Full 720p, great AA, cleverly hidden LOD and minimal pop in, great texture work and lighting.

You folks who have never played this game are in for a treat and its going to scale up to bigger TV's nicely

Ridiculous how long the games people actually want are taking to appear on BC.

Sigh... well that's one down, countless others to go :/

Bayonetta pls

Such good news, can't wait to finally stow the 360 away. It'll be nice to see a healthy online community, a new audience, and to just get lost in the game again. It'll always be my favorite game of last gen.
