Watching old trailers from the game, I think the first scenes from the E3 2013 trailer (Stella and Noctis running away, with her saying that he shouldn't worry about her) was reworked for the opening for the film. From the vegetation, we can assume that scene took place in Tenebrae. The only thing that it's different now is that Noctis is still in a wheelchair by the time the invasion begins. But rewatching the trailer, I instantly made the connection.

I actually thought that Iedolas is the one character that changed the least since we were first introduced to him.

I'm just nitpicking now. We've all addressed that the big consistency issue is Clarus.

Regis is 100% consistent with the game.

Iedolas looks generally the same appearance wise, but he doesn't look nearly as comically evil as he does in FFXV which throws it off a little.

i've been reading Iedolas as Ledolas this whole time r.i.p.
Why? First letter in people names are always capitalized, just like important places.

It's like when people think the Iifa Tree is called the Lifa Tree.

Minor spoilers on my impressions about Luna from what I saw:
The first minutes of the film should end the "she needs to be protected"/"weak female character without iniciative" debate once and for all.

After all the positive impressions of her that I've seen my biggest worry with the game is that I'll end up wishing she was the main character.

watched the movie. Man, that was really stunning.
This gave me stronger hype for FFXV than ones given by any past marketings including uncovered and E3 2013.

What's that? People's grossly uninformed opinions about a character they've seen mere seconds of weren't correct? Well color me surprised.

It was especially good. sometimes that gave me japanese animations battle's vibes like ONE PIECE or NARUTO in very good way.
Insomnia was literally warfare. They did war, really huge war.

How does it compare to Advent Children in terms of battles?

Lager scale, more sophisticated, and more flashy.
characters whom we don't know much are fighting so it's less immersive for some people compared to AC.
How was the story?
it was decent. gave me a lot information about its world and what's going on, though it has some issues such as lack of explains. but it was enjoyable until last scene.
makes me want to take back Insomnia eagerly.

I will be the first in the motherfucking line in theaters for this. Tabata/Nozue-san, I'm ready for you.

So excited. I remember being stunned at Advent Children CGI and IMO we're almost very close to the same sort of visual fidelity. I wonder how long or if at all we'll ever see a real time game this good looking.

On the flip side civil war happened and had good impressions as well.(which people also said meant nothing)

They can give an idea of what to expect

If that's the comparison you want to make, Civil War was directed by the Russo brothers, whose prior film was commercially and critically acclaimed.

The last film Takeshi Nozue directed (co-directed with Nomura) was Advebt Children. That gives you an even better idea of what to expect, doesn't it?

First impressions from fans that go to early screenings are hollow. Expect good work from people that typically do it. Hope for the best from those that don't. That's how I'm approaching this, anyway.

Lots of people saying you should watch it before playing the game now. Just waiting until I can buy tickets at this point.

I was just thinking earlier they'd need to get pretty creative for this not to be the case. The fact it's centered on events from early in the game alone would make it a strange watch after the whole 40-50 hours of the game, I think.

Wait, so is the movie out the same day digitally as the select theater release in the US?

Can't fathom why they don't release it the same day as the Japanese release. I mean it's pretty much dubbed from English into Japanese instead of the other way around right? At least that's what it seemed like after seeing the lip syncing from the English version.

Yeah the base version is the English one.
