KINGSGLAIVE: Final Fantasy XV Thread: Everything for the future king

Lena Headey's a drama actor and she seems to have done a great job. Not sure about Aaron Paul. Sean Bean sounded great but he's done voice work before.

Has there been any of footage of English game Luna?

I really hate English game Regis.

There was some off screen footage floating out there of the first 10 minutes of English Kingsglaive which half of is essentially Luna narrating the world of XV, the other half is the intro battle.

What about game Luna?

I want to see if it's as much of a downgrade as it is with Regis imo.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
I don't think this is really true. Of the Versus CG we've seen only about 2 scenes directly come from versus. The panning shot of all the Kingsglaive members at the table, and the showdown at the signing ceremony.

Maybe there were many scenes influenced by Versus like how the party scene is there but completely different, I guess we won't know.

I think the movie was intended purely to advertise and hype the game. If they were concerned with profits they'd put it in more theaters in more places.
Yea but think about how much we didn't see, the invasion most definitely wasn't gonna be the only part of the insomnia segment. Plus those scenes probably lasted a lot longer than the small clips we saw in the trailers.

What were the chances those scenes were Visual Works CG in the originally planned game?

If I think of a typical 4-5 hour long set-piece extravagance not uncommon of FF games, at best there's be like 20 minutes of CGi, with the rest of it real-time cutscenes or gameplay. Even more so for the quieter moments.

I hope there will be a screening in Canada, near where I live. I'd love to see it in theaters.

Probably won't happen though :(

Most of the reviews said that they will buy the game after this.

Seems like Kingsglaive is the best "trailer" FFXV could have, one place where Tabata and co. hit the absolute right spot with marketing. All credits to Nozue for directing it, of course.

Luna's Japanese VA is really bad imo. She has almost no emotion. Different VA for the game so there's still hope

By the way, yahoo reviews score for Kingsglaive. Yahoo score is like imdb in Japan
http://movies.yahoo.co.jp/movie/KINGSGLAIVE+FINAL+FANTASY+XV/356202/

For comparison
Independence day 2.86
Pele 4.42
Alice in wonderland 3.58
Warcraft 3.39
Hitler 4.04
Ex Machina 3.82
Deadpool 3.88
Zootopia 4.37

Most of the reviews said that they will buy the game after this.

Pele is a beast.

I really like Luna's JP movie voice after the small preview we got. I liked that she wasn't your typical voice actress and sounded a bit more reserved while her actual dialogue was rather poignant.

Reading all this good response for Kingsglave makes me wish it somehow gets a UK cinema release as well.

That said will be watching it when I get my collectors edition before i play the game.

Without spoilers, is the film good? Were you expecting more? Did it hype you?

Lots of positive impressions so far, yes.

Sakaguchi:

Towards the end of the lecture, Sakaguchi-san encouraged the audience to go see Kingsglaive. He found it “incredible,” and as someone who made a movie himself, he understand well how much work went into it.

According to Sakaguchi-san, the visuals are “even better than the trailer makes them look,” the story is “great,” and it justifies the group of four men who appear in the game.

He explained that at first, when he saw the four protagonists, they annoyed him because there was no female character. After watching the movie he understood, and he thinks players will be able to enjoy the game even more after watching it.

Some GAFers who saw it:

@birthbysleep:

The movie was great, action sequences were amazing as expected. Nyx was a great character. Luna was excellently portrayed and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of her story in the game. Ravus was super cool but was barely in it.

Some dislikes:
There wasn't really that much backstory given into the lore of XV like I was hoping for, but maybe I missed a few things because my Japanese isn't the greatest. Also it was kind of distracting because the lips are very obviously synced to the English voice so it didn't match at all to the Japanese voice.

[...]

Although the action sequences rival any typical Hollywood summer blockbuster, there isn't so much payoff with the story, which is intentional as it merely sets up things to come in XV. Those that are not familiar with XV might not appreciate the dramatic moments as much.

However, I think this would absolutely entertain general audiences. The story is basic enough to follow, and borders on Game of Thrones like vibes with the political drama. Hopefully they market this properly, it could do really well.

A friend I went with who is not a FF fan and was unfamiliar with XV found the movie to be quite entertaining and asked if their would be a sequel to see what happens when Luna finally reaches Noctis. So if SE's main goal with Kingsglaive was getting average people interested in the game, I think they have a chance at succeeding.

@Hasemo:

Just came back from the cinema. I really enjoyed the movie, although Japanese voice felt really off for some reason. I'm saying this as someone who prefers Japanese VO in the game.

As for the movie itself, I really enjoyed battle scenes, which for the most part felt much less "chaotic" like some moments in Advent Children. Regarding the story, the movie did a really good job of introducing the world of FFXV. World building might have even been... too good. By which I mean, depending on how the game tackles introducing this part of the story, people might feel a bit lost if they don't see the movie.

[...]

This one might be the most beautiful CG movie yet. The people in this movie, sometime I can't tell the difference between them and real people

By the way, one thing that surprised me is that even old people came to watch Kingsglaive too. Like 50 years old or something. Not just one or two but maybe more than 10 of them watched in the same theater

@Masked Man:

The film is excellent. Get hyped, y'all!

-

And from the early showing a few days ago where mostly industry folks were:

@benzy:

Katsuhiro Harada (Tekken series):
-Those who are planning to buy FFXV - you have to watch it. Those who aren't planning to buy - you will if you watch the movie. It respects the series' predigree, but damn, what a way to handle the baton to the next generation.

-Thinking that SE made it in-house kind of drives me crazy. How long did it take to render every second of the movie? Hours? Dozens of hours?

-Yeah, the bad guys are an annoying geezer and a weird dude. I bloody hate them now, but considering how well they were depicted, mission accomplished. I've already sworn I'm going to absolutely wreck them in the game.

Other impressions
-Holy s***. Just... holy s***. Final Fantasy at its best and then it shot into Hollywood. Monsters felt outright alien sometimes.

-Tears. Cried a lot. I think the whole theater was crying at the end. There was outright sobbing around the mid-point, too. Wonder if Noctis realizes what a huge burden he's really inherited.

-I won the tickets, but it was much better than expected. Will go to see again.

-A huge work, really. Kind of unexpected in some aspects, but in a good way.

-Amazing! Having to wait until September to play the game makes me depressed now.

-A beautiful movie, though the action scenes were sometimes so fast they were hard to follow (lol). Wish the heroine's VA was a bit more expressive.

-Fantastic, might go to see it in the theater again. Story felt like a part of a really huge tale. Knew nothing about the setting before watching it and still could follow the movie just fine.

-Luna is a seriously bold and audacious heroine. Not the angry screaming type, but very daring. Final verdict: why isn't it September 30 yet!

-The Versus/XV project might have had a troubled history, but Kingsglaive definitely delivered. Really interested in the story now.

-Putting CGI aside (we all knew it'd look great) I was impressed by the pacing and composition. Even the prologue alone felt like a fully realized tale. The story also doesn't get bogged down in exposition and the balance of silence and motion is superb. My only criticism is that considering how rawly realistic and gruesome the story is, it should have been more bloody. Really recommend watching it before playing the game, because people who know only the demo might get floored by how dark the story really is.

-Highly recommended, seriously. The previous FF movie felt sappy and soap-opera-ish, but KG is very different. It felt Western. Those who like action and stories more focused on strength of will, zeal, and pride should definitely watch it.

-Simply put, fantastic. The visuals, the music, the impact, everything. Was worried about the VAs, but they did an excellent job.

-Been waiting for this since Versus' announcement and yeah, it delivered. Very emotive and the story reduced me to tears. Nyx is a great character and it really drives home how much hope and desperation rests on Noctis' shoulders. "Everything for the Future King", indeed.

-Way too amazing. Stunningly beautiful world and effects, the sunrise scenes in particular. The OST delivered too: powerful and dynamic, but also beautiful. Spent the whole credits crying. The OST was giving me constant goosebumps,
but the peak was probably the party scene, accompanied by haunting Somnus
. For people who had been following the project since the Versus days, the whole thing hit like a truck.

So if I want to see Brotherhood and Kingsglaive, can I just go ahead and get going on Brotherhood now? Or is chronology important with these other releases?

Each Brotherhood episode is sort of a standalone story that gives backstory to each party member. So you can watch them in any order. Only 3 episodes are available right now, though. The anime series doesn't seem to have any strong plot ties to the film or the game.

Chronology doesn't matter. Each form of media has their own seperate contained story that helps world build the world of FFXV that helps define the main game.

Feel the same way. Don't understand what she said, but she didn't feel overacted.

She explains why she refuses to meet up with Noctis at this moment. Niflheim would follow her wherever she goes, which means that she would put Noctis in danger. Most importantly, she puts someone else's happiness above her own.
That little scene made me respect Luna much more than anything we've seen about her up to that point. Hopefully Luna has some similiarly good parts in the game.

I just don't get why they didn't use Paul, Headey and Bean as mocap for their characters.
Or hell just let the mocap ones also do the voices, who cares about big names in a CGI movie.

Also that Crowe acctress, she's cuuuuuuute.

Mocap actors were already cast by the time they got the voice cast and since this movie was started three years ago there were probably scheduling conflicts. The mocap actors technically did do voices but they had those big name actors come in and do ADR to get the timing right. Big names sell a movie and definitely deliver a better performance in a lot of cases. Like compare what we've heard of those three compared to the guy on the top right.

Not confirmed as far as I know, but this resemblance can't be a coincidence, can it?

I was wondering if Brotherhood and Kingsglaive are giving us hints at what the game's Chapter 0 is going to be about,
in all of them we'll control Regis i guess:
-Noctis childhood incident (Regis saving Noctis from the Marilith)
-Tenebrae invasion (Regis running away with Noctis and Luna)
-Insomnia invasion (Regis fighting together with Clarus, un-winnable boss fight with Glauca that ends with Regis death)
I think the last one is the most plausible, and it fits with Tabata's words that the prologue contains a boss battle that we can't winlike FFII.

Ohh, you're right. It was confirmed in a Famitsu article recently apparently. It's on the Wiki site. Thanks, will add.

Man of all those Regis could have fooled me, right looks like CGI and left looks like a real person

edit: nm wasn't wearing my glasses
LOL.

Only now noticed that he's the only one where the actor is on the left.

On imbd it says Amanda Piery is who they used the likeness of for Luna as well as the performance capture.

I read that, too, but I just couldn't see any resemblance, so I didn't include it. Maybe Luna's face wasn't changed based on an actress and Amanda only did the mo-cap.

God, I really don't like the new Regis. Disregarding the fact that no longer buy that he's supposedly Noctis's father, he looks too stylized to fit into Kingsglaive's more realistic world. He clashes with the game and the movie.

Hmmm, could also be Kezia Burrows who's involved but says it's confidential.

It's a 1:1 likeness of Jon Campling tho

I kinda think the game's CGI clashes with Kingsglaive now. The main party looks more like the kind of "doll-like" Anime/Reality-hybrids from FFXIII.

ClBfgu9UgAEPeSS.jpg

But on the other hand, that might be deliberate to not clash too much with the in-game models that are still pretty stylized in general compared to Kingsglaive.

I don't know, Regis seems to have bigger eyes.

Kingsglaive and FFXV always clashed visually, which is why wasn't a huge fan of Kingsglaive's more realistic designs.

Ooh a great Final Fantasy movie, I've been waiting for the moment I could show my parents something that was representative of the type of stories in Final Fantasy games. Spirits Within was a speechless moment for me. Advent Children was better but the enemies and the story was odd to them. "Don't cry"

Opposite here. I now wished FFXV would look more like Kingsglaive. Really loving the character designs. They strike a perfect balance between grounded Western and stylized Japanese aesthetics, imo. It doesn't scream Anime, yet it's still unmistakably FF-y and Japanese. Don't want to start another 10 pages of Balls calling everyone, who likes the Kingsglaive design more, a racist, but I'd love if future FFs looked more like that.

Maybe that's what Sakaguchi meant when he complained about Regis's eyes.
I mean his wife's dead. The rapid aging, monsters, etc. aside from that his life atm seems pretty peaceful but he has to have seen so much shit during his time as king.

It's basically an advanced version of Agni's Philosophy's artstyle. I'd love if FFXVI follows that artstyle.
