They are only doing virtual console titles.

Final Fantasy is a brand name that pops out on the box in the West. Dragon Warrior isn't really a thing here.

I would assume that with what the branding is like these days, Squenix doesn't want to confuse people by bringing back the Dragon Warrior name. It already has it rough as it is.

But they have two big DQ games coming out here soon. This could have maybe created more awareness for the brand to help sales. And people wonder why the series doesn't catch on here.

Would love to see Nintendo do the same thing with the SNES.

How does porting Dragon Warrior, a brand they no longer use, help DQ at all?

Id expect a Gameboy before Snes and N64.

I think SNES and N64 would be much easier to pull off because they just need to be emulators in SNES/N64 boxes and classic controllers would also be usable. A Gameboy/Color mini would require its own screen, and a link cable or some type of way to connect to other systems.

This thing will likely fly off the shelves with the nostalgic 30-somethings crowd. If there's one company that knows how to cash in on your nostalgia, it's Nintendo.

Not that that's a bad thing, I'm probably worse than most people at getting suckered by that sort of stuff.

Just had a dream that there would be a cartridge insert, with the option to slap your old games in and add them to your VC collection, and Nintendo made them cross-buy.

But then I woke up.

These are two different demographics. This one is intended as an easy to use nostalgia product. The other is for current gamers generation who never knew NES in the first place.

I don't trust their emulation, nor do I think they will just shrink the original NES board. I'm expecting an identical experience to Wii U Virtual Console. I'm honestly surprised it has a HDMI port.

I might buy a controller.

Too much. It would basically need a Wiimote with a sensor bar.

What I'm getting from this post is, they should have made the system sensor bar and Wiimote compatible for people who have them and included Duck Hunt.

The fact that all 30 games are already on the Wii virtual console and the fact that the controllers use the Wii accessory port points to this being a no effort emulation solution built on Wii hardware components.

I do agree that Nintendo/Square Enix should be releasing some of their Dragon Quest stuff on virtual console though. No reason why would couldn't get the GBC version of DQ3 for instance. Other than the mobile version, they haven't bothered to port that game in over 15 years.

I see Nintendo's putting their relationships with third parties featured in Smash 4 to good use (namely Bandai Namco, Capcom, & Square Enix).

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

This is amazing. I said Nintendo should do this years ago and they finally did. Freakin awesome. Though I was thinking more along the lines of actual reproduction hardware.

This is cool. I missed out on the NES because I was too young. Might finally get to see what the hubbub is about with these games.

You'll love it! Awesome system with great memories for me! Great games on this thing as well! Plus, getting to use the original controller makes it even better!

Really fantastic move on Nintendo's part. I hope this does well enough that they make an SNES one too. Playing Super Mario World in the morning, in my pajamas + cereal...hnnng!

Basically described my Christmas back in the day!

Awesome list! Isn't Donkey Kong 64 Rare though? (I could be wrong.) If it is, just replace it with Mystical Ninja and all will be well!

I also hope it'd come with a Rumble Pack!

Then if you allow third party stuff in based on the third parties present in the NES collection, you'd still have room for stuff like Resident Evil 2, both Goemons, both Castlevanias, Ogre Battle, and Mega Man Legends.

Comes with 40 Genesis games, plus 40 other games, two wireless controllers and allows for the use of Carts

all for $45.

Never played it myself so I don't know how the games run, but the reviews look alright.

Except it is shit
Yeah, I think ClassicGameRoom did a video about it. From what I remember, the sound was off (like many clone systems, and that worries about this NuNES), and the controller connection was "wobbly."

edit: correction, it was an older one from the looks of it. No wireless and Mega Drive version. Region free, though!

You can't include a game that wouldn't be playable out of the box. Once again, this is a nostalgia box, the target is not the regular gamer.

The controller is not USB. It uses the same port that's beneath the Wiimote.

So they will work with this new console, and the Wii/Wii U.

Can't wait to get that controller. My childhood!...

damn to bad, would be great if nintendo/sega released usb versions of their classic controllers

I'll repeat what I tweeted earlier: disappointed some news outlets have skewed the details by leading with: "Nintendo to Launch New Console in November" or words similar. I know why they're doing it, but as someone who does news too, I'd at the very least put NES/Nintendo Classic in the heading.

I wouldn't even put it past some sites having 'NX' in the SEO or keywords section.

Nintendo owns DK64. They have it up on the Wii U eshop and all.

So this will likely be a series? SNES has more than enough titles and N64 can probably still get by without Rare's games with titles like Mario 64, OOT/MM, Smash, Pokemon Snap, Mario Party 2, Star Fox 64, Kirby 64 and Sin & Punishment, which I think have all been on the Virtual Console at some point so there shouldn't be a problem. Third party will probably be super-light for N64 though.

I don't really see them going past N64 though, maybe a Game Boy Mini?

I would definitely expect to see something like the GBA Micro minus the card slot with a bunch of classic games from the GB/GBC/GBA.

Another thing Nintendo will release in small quantity and will sell for outrageous prices on eBay -_-

You forgot Turok!

Also, they'd probably not include Sin & Punishment and put Sanfrancisco Rush on instead.

Great list of games. Wonder why they didn't just include all the 1st party games. I kind of miss Pro Wrestling, Pinball, and even Urban Champion. The absence of Contra is disappointing too.

Other than that, this looks amazing.

This will probably sell more than Wii U and I have the feeling this is the "middle-period console series" between NX and the next one.

Personally, N64 does not have any appeal to me but SNES and GB/GBA have.

Also quick question: Several people here have been saying that Yoshi's Island probably couldn't happen on a SNES version. Is this based on it not being in the Wii U VC (Which I'm not even sure is the case, just think I read it somewhere here), it handles emulation poorly, or is there some sort of legal issue with it?

It's very likely a legal issue with the FX chip.

I own one of those and generally like it for what it is, but it's hard to deny that it includes a lot of trash in those 40 genesis games (and the 40 non-genesis games are almost all bad, aside from the one bomberman clone).
