I don't want to start something here, but I'm surprised all these political gaming movements haven't jumped on the whole "waifu" thing.
It always seemed uncomfortably "possessive" and more than a bit sexist, to me.
It kinda has to do with escapism in general. You also have this problem with Fire Emblem and Bioware games as well with character and romance threads in Bioware forums almost always being the longest.
Because that's exactly what the developers are going for? Why do we need hot spring or beach sequences? Why do we need sweaty girls wearing white shirt? Why do we need maiden cafe?
If anyone is to blame for the whole waifu nonsense, it's the devs themselves. They put otaku baits into their game and otakus bite.

That's fine, I just don't like these sorts of things happening and then Morgana probably completely integrating with society like how Teddie did.

I don't think they'll do a Morgana turning into a real human thing though. Teddie's character arc was about identity crises, no sign of that in Morgana. Morgana also tags along everywhere in the protagonist's bag so it'd be pretty sad if that stopped happening.

She/he's a magical shapeshifting cat that can talk and has a Persona. Why not?
(Also these kids need a getaway vehicle of some kind for their hijinks and Morgana is already The Mentor of the group, so she/he provides them the vehicle by...actually becoming one.)

Nope. Atlus have been purposefully ambiguous with Morgana's gender.
Morgana's gender is ambiguous. The name is female, Zorro is male (doesn't mean anything by itself, Naoto's Personas were all male) and
the in-game text describes Morgana's voice as "boyish" during the opening.
Usually for great characters in anything there's a line drawn to what they can do and what they can't do, and that kind of thing defines them for the rest of the story.
The "why not" thing feels like a copout for just having the abstract, and that's fine that the game wants to do that, but I know for sure that Morgana is gonna have some classic and deep JRPG melodrama scenes like Teddie did and those won't work if she's a magical shapeshifting cat who can transform into a car (and maybe also turn into a human?).
I'd be totally down for that kinda stuff if Morgana remains enigmatic for the rest of the game, though.
Maybe I misread somewhere. Plus I always assumed Morgana was female considering the name and voice.
