Did you know Halo invented the FPS?

The U.S. Government has arrested the alleged owner of KickassTorrents, the world's largest torrent site. The 30-year-old Ukrainian was arrested in Poland today and is charged with criminal copyright infringement and money laundering. In addition, a federal court in Chicago has ordered the seizure of several KAT domain names.

With millions of unique visitors per day KickassTorrents (KAT) has become the most-used torrent site on the Internet, beating even The Pirate Bay.

Today, however, the site has run into a significant roadblock after U.S. authorities announced the arrest of the site’s alleged owner.

The 30-year-old Artem Vaulin, from Ukraine, was arrested today in Poland from where the United States has requested his extradition.

KAT’s .com and .tv domains are expected to be seized soon by Verisign. For the main Kat.cr domain and several others, seizure warrants will be sent to the respective authorities under the MLAT treaty.

How long before another site overtakes it?

This is a never ending battle. Good for them, but another will take its place.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

This never stops feeling exceptionally weird.

For this?

That ridiculous Simpsons episode really is true to life.

And another will rise in its place. And another.

When will they learn that piracy is a non issue. The vast majority of it is done by people who either can not or will not ever pay for any of the content they pirate. There is basically nothing to gain from all this effort.

Whelp.... kat was a site void of clickbait ads with some nifty choice of video quality tabs. I never knew it was so popular given the .cr compared to something as obvious as PIRATEBAY DOT COM

Honestly, if they can keep KAT and TPB offline and/or on the run, then law enforcement has pretty much won.

No other torrent sites come close to the sheer traffic, size and catalogue of torrents that those two websites have.

The age of piracy will finally be coming to an end (mostly) and good riddance, to be honest.

The argument that torrenters are the kind of people who wouldn't purchase the content anyway doesn't fly. I know plenty of people who pirate new episodes of shows every week, but will go out and buy the home video release down the line.

Piracy has been huge far before even torrents existed. There will always be something new or a different torrent site to take the place of a site like Kat.

Decentralized piracy will always be difficult to weed out.

Yep.

For mainstream piracy, it seems there is always a group of people who have the nerve to run a monster site like Kat despite the risk so I'm sure more will always show up.

Kickass had purged a lot of their older more popular torrents which I assume was due to them being tracked. This wasn't unexpected.

I just stopped altogether once I started gaining some disposable income.

Btjunkie was the go to site before but they got out of the game I'm guessing because they were in the crosshairs. KAT really lifted off with btjunkies demise.
