Pokemon GO update removes footprints from nearby tracker

I walked 3 miles total today in 4 directons looking for a Chansey with 3 feets. It appeared all over my near by page but I never found it.

I want that Chansey!
It's because Pokemon only last 15 mins in a spot but the tracker in game isn't properly in sync with the servers. So things show up on the tracker when they're long gone.

Banning people after weeks of paying and possibly spending money just because they are jailbroken would be really stupid. They even removed part of the PoGo App code that made the App crash ob jailbroken devices in yesterdays update. Prior to that you had to trick the app into thinking the device is not jailbroken. Are there any instances of ingress players gettimg banned simply because they were jailbroken?

They probably won't ban you for having a jailbroken phone (but they'll know your jailbroken)

they probably WOULD ban you for having a jailbroken phone and using that to get any illicit hacks/spoofs/etc. and using them in game.

I don't know if a similar check exists on Android (the game never has prompted for root access, anyway, unlike other apps that 'check' to see if you have root like the Battle.net app or various banking apps)

They also reduced the range of seeing Pokemon from 100m to 70m (51% reduction in area) so it's a lot harder to catch even if you are really close.

I didn't start playing till after trackers stopped working. Hopefully they bring it back soon, would be nice to go off the beaten path hunting them. I pretty much stay next to my house there is a 1/3 of a mile track with 5 pokestops next door. But rarely see anything new.

Why do so many people have no patience when it comes to Niantic? They could not have anticipated this level of popularity and they must be under immense pressure. The game hasn't even been out for so long.

I'm sure the tracking will be back as will they fix all the other little issues. Just give them some time.

It's because the footprint Poketracker is such an easy fix that people have decompiled the game's apk and used that to code client-side fixes that are just as accurate as the launch Poketracker was.

This should have been client-side all along, since clearly it isn't preventing GPS spoofing...

RIP Pokémon Go.

Everyone I know who still plays just uses GPS spoofing.

Game is broken, and all this "they'll fix it later" optimism just seems naive.

I'm done. Double whammy of living in a rural area and not being able to keep up with the cheaters makes the game incredibly pointless.

Wait, how's that a 51% reduction?

Because the area of a circle increases with the square of the radius, so a reduction of 50% in the radius is a reduction of 75% of the area.

Already had a huge drop off in players around me. Not seeing a ton of people out walking anymore or cars all pulled up at a pokestop. I see a couple of players at the park now, but that's about it. Now I'm seeing Dragonites at every gym too(never spawn around here)

That 100m to 70m reduction doesn't matter for most people. It's not connected to the "Nearest" list, it relates to in what radius the server gives you exact GPS coordinates to Pokemon. But the app itself has its own limit of 50m, so it won't show any Pokemon to you unless they come closer than 50m. The app knows about the exact location of Pokemon in the 50-70m (previously 50-100m) radius, but since those are hidden from you, the experience for the user will be the same.

It sucks that Niantic would rather shut these trackers down instead of fixing their game, which is what these trackers were assisting the game do.

Lol Niantic are way over their heads with an app of this magnitude. All of their decisions regarding this thing are embarassing as hell.

I don't play this game, but even I can see how this could ruin the experience.
I'm more surprised so many people used it. I e been playing since the beginning and have never been able to use the tracker not have I heard people successfully use the tracker. Not that I am the end all be all of Pokemon go but it seems like this might be a gaf issue more than a real world video game problem.

Wow I didn't relize this would get people so salty... It isn't the end of the world guys.

Not but this is a major sign of incompetence considering this feature was a big part that enhanced the main point of the app.

But no, I guess everyone critizing this decision must be salty because it turns out the amateur developers who run this actually have no fucking idea what they're doing.

Yeah, it's been obvious from the start they're in over their heads. Pokémon Go is a great premise with an absolutely abysmal implementation. I quit playing like a week as the game ran like complete fucking shit. This seems like a disaster for anyone still trying to enjoy this game. Niantic really needs to hire people who are actually good at making mobile games.

I used it all the time before it broke. It was fun actually hunting for Pokemon, now you just walk around and hope you run into what you're after since there's no way to tell where it is.

This. A million times this. How are people not understanding this? People were already bored of the app before this update. This update needed to fix tracking in order to keep the hype train going. Now who's gonna play a broken game? Especially with zero ways to actually track Pokemon. No one, that's who. They took the resurgence of Pokemon and drove it right into the trash. It's terrible.

EDIT: Never mind. You clearly liked the game at one point enough to be disappointed with it now, that's understandable.

Not gonna lie I got bored of this game a few days ago. There's only so much I can do and so many drowsee's to grind and whatnot.

Don't really care about this footsteps thing. Oh well, the Go craze was fun while it lasted for me.

You should spend less time making posts about how much you hate Pokemon GO and more time simply uninstalling it.

Seriously, you don't like the game. We get it. It will get along just fine without you.

This is a discussion forum. He can state his dislike of this app as much as he wants as long as he's being respectful to others.

It's like Pokémon Go lovers don't want people saying mean things about their little game especially in a hardcore gaming forum where stuff like this gets scrutinize to hell and back.

It's because of comments like "developers have no fuckinf idea what they're doing" that makes us somewhat disregard the aforementioned criticism against Niantic. It's perfectly fine to be frustrated, but to level comments like this without actually knowing what they're doing and how hard they're working behind the scenes just feels in my opinion incredibly immature.

They could at least write in the changelog that they work on it.

Boo freakin hoo, they'll put it back in when they can. This shit is so minor it's not even funny.

Agreed. So many people act like threads are for people who like a thing, not people who have opinions about a thing, positive or negative.

It's amazing to see this game flounder though. They captured such an insanely massive audience and an astounding amount of attention and have squandered it. Most people I know have dropped it, new features haven't come in, bugs aren't being fixed, features are being removed, etc. Honestly, Niantic deserves every bit of criticism they get. They got lucky by slapping a Pokémon skin on Ingress and had no idea what to do after that.

It's even a step back from Ingress, at least XM is visible in Ingress and not hidden from player view.

Walk around
Pokemon appear
???
Profit

The Pokemon that will appear like that are most likely trash. I don't need another Pidgey. Before when things like Dratini popped up nearby I would go out and actually hunt for it. Why would I bother doing that now? There's pretty much no chance of me actually finding it.

Minor? It's the only way to actually go catch Pokemon.

No? I walk around, check if there's something new on the nearby. If it appears, it appears, if not, I'm sure it'll appear later down the line. Not like there are hundreds of Pokemon out there, there's only the about 150. Not like there's a timer on this specific generation being out there either. People gotta chill out, but that's something difficult I guess.

Sure go out and walk miles in 100 degree heat hoping you might stumble on something other than a weedle, caterpie, pidgey, or rattata.. Easy to say when you live in an area where it doesn't get hot.

I agree, they could let us know exactly what they're working on, but I feel that some people are almost DEMANDING it.

We don't know what they're working on, but there are two cases, right?

1) They are working on it.
2) They are not working on it.

This game has made them substantial amounts of money. It's obviously a feature that they intended to be in the game, or they wouldn't have released with it. Do you honestly think they aren't devoting time and resources to keeping the golden goose alive?

I have no idea, they could very well be scrapping it, but to jump to that conclusion seems odd, and to be as hyperbolic as some are seems way over the top.

Sure, I agree. Niantic appears to be dropping the ball in terms of communication. I wish they would hire a community manager but that shit takes time, and when I am assuming all of their resources are going to making the game actually work I can understand why there is a hole there. There are a ton of problems I personally have with Pokemon GO. My main point in my post however is that the tone of the discourse needs to be less vitriolic.

Walk more
Great input. If you bothered to read the thread you'd see plenty of people posting who can walk plenty far around their local area and see the same 2-3 Pokemon over and over. This may sound like a novel idea to you, but everyone's experience is different depending on location. In rural areas the game is almost universally shit in terms of what Pokemon can be encountered.

In the country?

Regardless of what the issue is for the end user, some people will blame them for Niantic's failures. My friend lives in Southern California and has no pokestops nearby. She ran out of balls and the game is basically over for her. I'm sure if she posted here, someone would suggest she move to a place with more stops.
