Lez talk mechanical keyboards

Has anyone here tried MX Cherry Nature White switches? From what I've read, they offer more resistance than reds, less than blacks.

have you try the green switches? those are similar clicky feel as blue but more sensitive and perhaps better for double tapping more?
think razer blackwidow chroma uses them.

I have tried the Razer Chroma but didn't spend much time with it. It seemed fine, since I had already decided on a 60% keyboard and Razer makes their own switches I didn't spend much time with it. I was really only interested in Cherry MX Blue, Brown, Black and Red as Those are the choices for the Pok3r RGB.

More sensitive? Aren't they just a stiffer version of the Blues, because designed for the space bar of a keyboard with blues?

Granted, the stiffer spring must help the key to go up faster, so probably better for double tapping if you find the force needed reasonable...

Torn between the WASD V2 with custom colors and the WASD CODE.

I'd love to have a backlit keyboard for readability but the pure black pallette of the CODE is a turn off for me. I kinda want to have the alphanumeric/modifier keys be different colors which the V2 allows me to set. The only issue is that ordering third party keycaps for the CODE won't let the backlight LED's shine through the opaque keys.

Anyone have any advice please? I'm basically looking for an 87 key keyboard with brown MX switches (office programming environment).

I just received my mechanical keyboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823816015
I know there's a RGB version but those cost like $129. So I rather save some money and got this instead. Very solid built.

Prior to getting this I got the sampler keys to try out varies mx switches. Good thing my local bestbuy has a logictech G910 ORION SPECTRUM RGB for me to try out their Romer-G switches.

I highly recommend people to get the sampler https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N6DXTW4/?tag=neogaf0e-20 to try the mx switches in person.

Just from reading is not enough. My first reading impression leaded me to believe either the Romer-G or brown switches was the one I'm looking for but after trying it out, I find the red switches are more comfortable for me.

Like some mention, those brown switch has a tactile bump but that bump felt like a scratch/or worn out membrane keys if pressed slowly. That leaded me into either getting red switch or romer-G (from logictech). Romer-G almost felt like brown and but more silent thus I end up with red switch that has a smooth downward pressing feel.
I came to a similar conclusion when I bought my first mechanical last year. I started out sure I wanted browns after researching online and reading explanations and watching videos on each switch. Then I tried a board with browns in store, and it just wasn't for me. I also tried my second choice, something clicky with blues or razer greens, but they were both just too loud for me. Romer-g was a bit too blah for me as well.

Tried put a corsair board in store with reds and instantly knew it was my switch. Funny because I was sure I wouldn't like them from my research before hand. I've had a K70 with reds for almost a year now and couldn't be happier (just wish I went with blue led instead of red).

Just shows to everyone looking for their first board, you really need to try the switches in store or even get a switch tester.

Decided to grab that sampler before I order mine. Thanks for the link!

Can't stress enough that you really can't get a feel for a switch without typing on it. Yes a sampler will give you an idea but man, typing is a while different story. Can always return boards to stores like best Buy or Amazon

Help!

Something happened to my Ducky. Keys on the left side, mainly Tab and Caps Lock, will not "stay pressed" when I push them down. In FPS hitting Tab will bring up the score overlay, holding it will keep the overlay there, right? If I do that the overlay keeps appearing/disappearing like I'm hitting the button a million times a second.

I use Caps Lock for Push to Talk and it is the same. People say it sounds super choppy, like it is getting cut off and on super quickly.

Did you check the back to see if you haven't used any of those switches/levers that might change Caps Lock to Ctrl? I believe that is the DIP 1.

Other than that I wouldn't know =(

So the browns on my ducky one feel different than other mx browns. They are nowhere near as tactile as my friends cm storm stealth. Sometimes as I'm typing it almost feels linear, especially the p or something. It's a little annoying as I wanted the tactile feel to it. Is that normal? Are all switches of the same color not created equally?

Took the dive with a Corsair RGB Strafe Silent and I'll never look back.

How are you liking this? Seems like you are loving it. Did you have a mechanical keyboard before this and what made you choose this one.

I have a CMStorm with brown switches I like a lot, but was looking for a change. Girlfriend wants to get me something for my birthday and I was eyeing this the other day along with the Logitech 910. Both seemed to have similar feeling to browns so I figured I would like them.

I've got three different keyboards with MX Browns and they all feel different (CM Storm XT the most tactile, G710+ and CM Storm Trigger Z more "loose" keys). So there's definitely difference, even among the same manufacturer.

Are there any Logitech G610 owners here?
I'm looking to buy one, but it doesn't have Swedish, Finnish or Estonian layout for some reason. So closest layout after those is German, but that layout has Y and Z switched around. Are those keycaps shaped identically so I could simply switch them around?

So I just received my white realforce 55g 87u today and it is fantastic! Just wow. I didn't think it would exceed my already high expectations like this but it has.

Oh, and thanks a ton Sirap! It was your posts that inspired me to check out realforce over all the other stuff and I'm glad I did. Even though it's not RGB it is exactly what I was looking for in a retro looking keyboard and then some. And man is this thing built like a rock. I feel like I could use this thing as a weapon if I needed to and it would still work afterwards.

I will say that I wish that there was an easier way for more people to try these keyboards though. I can totally understand why the cost would put people off at first along with it not looking so modern and not having as much cosmetic customizability as the MX offerings. But for real, this is like heaven lol.

Bah!! I really liked the feel of the Storm that I tried. Guess I'll have to stick with the Ducky (not that it's bad) or I could try and sell it....ugh

I did and I'm pretty sure the letters are identical. But you would have to program it to type the correct let as well

Good work! I have 2x 87u's ( 1 for home ( 55g uniform ), 1 for work ( variable weight, Silent version) ) and I swear by them. Best keyboard ever made.

The G610 is manufactured with Nordic layout. It seems that only product shots available from Logitech are of the US ANSI layout. They are used product pages of the Nordic version at various online retailers, which I assume is what lead you to think that there is no Nordic version of the keyboard. German layout should work just fine with swapped Y and Z keycaps as long as your input language is set to the language you want to use.

Can you link me to sites that sell Nordic version? I googled and didn't manage to find anything really.

Congratulations, glad that you're enjoying it! The Japanese weren't fucking around when they made these things. The HHKB might get all the praise when it comes to Topre but Realforces are the real kings. Nothing, and I mean nothing comes close to the feeling of typing on these things.

welcome to the club! I got my first topre this spring, couldn't be happier :)

Alright, I realize I'm going to sound like a newb but are there any keyboard shortcuts specific to the 87u? I'm learning to code and am trying to figure out a better way to toggle the numpad other than having to reach across the board and press numlock. The manual came in Japanese and I can't find one in English.

OMG!!! I figured it out! What was happening was I was accidentally pressing a preset button on my scroll wheel on the my razer naga... There are like three buttons that I can press with the wheel left right and holding down on it. It was when I was pressing right on the wheel accidentally before typing something on the keyboard that it was activating.

Sadly this means that there is no easy way to activate numlock. :(

I've heard Browns change in feeling depending on their surface, maybe it's that.

My Pok3r RGB got here today, and I love it. After some back and forth I went for the Cherry MX Browns. I am glad I got these. I like the blue's click in theory but I think that in time I could have become annoyed with it. I think I may prefer clears, but until I try then out the browns are just dandy.

I love the feel of the board, and it is so small. This is the reason I waited so long for a mechanical keyboard. 60%, mechanical, programmable. The browns are pretty smooth, with just a hint of a catch, honestly I don't feel it typing at speed, but the keys don't have the spring of the Red's which I dislike. I've only been typing on it for a day, and mostly that's scewing around with teaching myself the FN+ layer so I can get to arrows, pgUp pgDown effortlessly. I can't really imagine getting to a point were I would dislike the feel of this board. The Pok3r is so nice, like a good leather chair, just comfortable.

As a Autohotkey user I can't wait to dig into the programming. I'm sure it will take some time to set up and consistently use the features but I'm glad to have to options. I do scripting and automation at work so this feature really appeals to me.

Finally the RGBness, never having owned a backlit keyboard I didn't really need this feature, I just couldn't pass it up though. The LEDs are nice and bright, they look great, and with tons of options to customize it's a really nice feature. I think I'll skip LEDs on my next board what ever that will be, but my 10 year old son absolutely wants a full sized RGB keyboard now.

I've had my Rosewill RK-9000v2 Cherry MX Brown for a few days now. Decided to go with this since it was on sale for $64.99. It feels leagues better than my 12 year old Dell keyboard. No LEDs it anything, but I like it simple.

Now I'm considering custom keycaps for funsies. Will any keycaps fit, or is there a specific brand to look for? Was eyeing a Tai-Hao grey and orange set for $25 on mechanicalkeyboards.com. How are their keycaps?

"Now I'm considering custom keycaps for funsies. Will any keycaps fit, or is there a specific brand to look for? "

Any keycaps that are "MX-compatible" or will fit Cherry MX stems will fit on your board. In reality, that is 98% of the keycap sets you will see on the internet.

So I got a poker 2 which I enjoy for gaming and typing. I need your guys help recommending my next board as there are some issues with this one.

-cherry mx reds are....okay. Kinda scratchy. I preferred blues but the bump was too annoying to game on. Should I try topres?

-60% keyboard is great, but it annoys my wife not having arrow keys even though I mapped the caps lock as a quick modifier (its faster than having arow keys to me lol)

-Looking into 65% keyboards, those are probably my favorite comprise, not as big as tenkeyless.

-leopolds is expensive asf. 200 for a board is pushing it.

-noppoo choc mini?

-should I try mx browns? Are they less scratchy than reds?

You might be talking about the FC660C, which has Topre switches. The FC660M variant (with MX Cherry) are cheaper but keep the same (great) layout.

I've heard Browns change in feeling depending on their surface, maybe it's that.

What do you mean by surface? Like the keycap? Or the surface that the keyboard is on? Not sure how that would change anything..

-should I try mx browns? Are they less scratchy than reds?

Reds are the least scratchy of them all so I'm not sure what you mean. They are completely linear with no tactile feeling

I have a switch sampler and the Browns do seem less scratchy to me, at least with o-rings they do. I owned a Red kb for a few days and while I couldn't describe it at the time, scratchy makes perfect sense. The tactile part of the Browns replaces the scratch, so naturally there's less of it.

I still don't know what to do regarding my own keyboard. I didn't want to pay an extortionate amount for a sampler/tester with Clear and Green, so I settled for the standard 4: red black blue brown. Brown does seem like it would be the best for me, but it's still quite lacking in the feel department. I can't always feel the tactile part from quick presses, but then I use Red again and I feel the difference.

I currently own a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 and I keep considering taking the plunge on a Mechanical Keyboard... is it worth the upgrade? I'm eyeing up the K70 RGB.

I would try a mechanical keyboard in person first.

I recently bought one because the internet led me to believe that they were night and day difference.

In fact, it's just a keyboard, and it's actually more fatiguing to type on a mechanical rather than a rubber dome keyboard.

Maybe for gaming it's better, but I don't use a keyboard and mouse to game. I couldn't say.

Not that I disagree with your entire post, but there are too many variables in key switches to make this kind of blanket statement.
