No Man's Sky Update 1.03 Patch Details revealed (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Kinitari

Black Canada Mafia
I'm guessing the animal/creature "pet" thing doesn't mean that animal can leave the planet with you and follow you around forever, right?

I'm really worried I won't be able to play this on release because of the patch. I live in a small town and my internet is horrid.
The game is very small, and I imagine this patch won't be large - current game is like 4gb install, and that's mostly sound assets. Patch might not crack 100mb, and I wouldn't be surprised.

The cynicism some have is off the charts. I hope I never become like that.

They're improving the game!? Well let me focus on all the negatives!

Some of these patches seem to fix or change some major issues/aspects with the game, not merely just add cool features that enhance the game.

So yes, I would prefer a company release a game they feel confident is good enough on disc. That doesn't seem to be the case here since he the developer doesn't even want reviews without a day 1 patch.

Deadlines exist and with millions of dollars on the line, they have to meet them come hell or high water. They were most definitely aware of the issues and were assuredly working on this patch well before the game went gold. They were confident that while the game went through cert, printing, packaging, shipping, etc...they could get the patch ready for Day 1. That's a smarter solution than delaying the game for a month. And then going through cert. And then manufacturing, packing, and shipping.

People always seem to forget that it's a business.

Did you said the same thing for TW3? Let the people choose if they wan't to play and buy a game digitally or phisically. And if i recall correct i don't remember any single game released on disk without a day one patch on this gen. What's the difference here?

I mean, that's why I'm saying it's a broader problem for the entire industry, but I'm thinking TW3 didn't release without certain major questlines, completely differently arranged locations geographically, a smaller map size, certain environmental conditions, no mountains, smaller number of weapons and gear, more simplified Gwent etc. I haven't played TW3 yet and they might as well have released larger changes over time, but some of the features mentioned in the NMS 1.03 patch are very drastic, changing gameplay mechanics in larger ways, and they promise even larger changes in the future (so I guess let's compare it to TW3 DLC, but maybe more in frequency and diversity?).

So in terms of games generally having day 1 patches and beyond, yeah, it's the state of affairs these days, but the state of the game on disc is a bit more unfinished than what you'd usually expect in retail, even these days (although there are cases).

I think it's also fair to point out that when people thought TH5 contained much of the content through their ridiculously sized patch, some people lost their shit. And rightfully so.

Now, NMS' patch isn't hiding the majority of their content on the patch - just some of it. And it's nowhere near as bad the buggy mess that game was. But the similarities of containing a ton of content Day 1 are there.

TW3 changed a lot, but nothing on this scale, nor did it add as much content.

And the size of the patch is the problem, not having a Day 1 patch itself. People with data caps or shit internet would probably be fine with a 8MB patch as opposed to one that's 18GB with loads of content.

Yeah, I can understand the issues people have with this, and I have forgotten about the shitshow TH5 was. NMS is a weird marketing case all around. I mean, I'm saying all this as a big fan of what they're creating here, but I can't say I really like how certain things in the industry seem to keep repeating, so I can't really say it's all gravy.

You could probably wish for crazy shit and they'll deliver. Lol. I was one of the few wishing for base building and large ships and we're getting them soon. The only other thing I'd like is ships that need to be manned by multiple people. Could be ai characters and not other online people.

Wondering what base building will add to the game. I'm all for base building. Love that aspect in games, but I'm anxious to see what the benefit is in this game. You are supposed to explore and keep moving in this game. Not build a house and stay on one planet.

Possible fast travel to planets you have visited? So you could build a house on a planet, make some chests to keep things in and fast travel to it? Doesn't matter, excited.
Omg imagine farcasters like in Hyperion. Portals that are giant windows to Vistas on planets. My dining room overlooks the canyon of Faust on planet Thebes, my bedroom looms over the abyss of Carstark on planet Europa III, and my workspace has a river that run from a stream in one planet through a portal to a tributary of a river on another planet.

If only.

Would be neat if they keep adding features that completely improve/change up the game

Based on what I was told that's what Sean wants to do, and for a game like this that is amazing. Can't wait for the next patch already and I can't wait to see what else this team thinks up.

This is cool!

This whole patch seems like a giant fucking game changer.

Even more hyped than I already was.

The scanning is going to hopefully make finding other players exponentially easier than it originally was.

Yeah, having a crew is something I'd like to see one day too, it would make it a bit closer to old classics like Starflight, although it would be a pretty major update, so maybe something further down the line.

Doesn't seem like a good solution for the person without internet who bought the $60 game on disc not thinking it would need a day 1 patch to make their single player offline game work as intended.

But hey, millions of dollars were on the line for a company, who cares if that person just spent $60 on an unfinished game that needed to be fixed with a day 1 patch.

You've already got your answer. I mean, what would you expect? When dealing with large groups of potential customers, changing your business practices to accommodate an increasingly small minority makes little sense.

So yeah, it sucks if you are a modern gamer living in a place with bad/no internet. Of course, it already sucks in a bunch of other ways, so this particular situation shouldn't be new. But on the other hand, the version of NMS on disc is a good game.

A game that hasn't even released yet at that. I'm super happy and feeling good about tuesday.....as long as Amazon ships it on time.

Criticism isn't the same as cynicism.

But these passive aggressive posts are silly and are just as shit-posty as normal shitpost.

The game got reviewed 8 out of 10 with no patch. That's not an unfinished game. It's a finished game that even early streamers have enjoyed.

God damn. That is an absolutely massive day 1 update. Seems like they barely slept for the past month. My excitement for this game just grew even more.

Looking forward to base building and huge ships in the next update.

Everyone come visit my base after I build it. It'll have space cookies.

What does this mean?
Networking – Ability to scan star systems other players have discovered on the Galactic Map, increasing the chance of collision.
Increasing the chance of collision with a system discovered by another player, or chances of collision (encounter) with another player?

Wait, cloud rendering tech? He's referring to using the cloud to render rather than rendering clouds right?

Hoo boy. Looks like dat infinite power of the cloud is coming to PS4.

Sounds like collision with another player to me, could be wrong tho

I think "collision" means "encounter" in this sense. Just increasing the odds that you'll be able to meet up with someone.

I was thinking it meant how many planets have the exact same texture from afar, and a means to fix that.

I'm hoping we can own a moon rover that can fit in the back of our ships or space freighter. Imagine landing on a planet, walking from your pilot's chair to the back of the ship, getting in the moon rover, opening the door and driving down the ramp onto the planet's surface...

How cool would that be?!?

Also, ships transforming into submersibles for entering deep bodies of water would be another great addition!

That's how I was reading it also, but given everything Sean mentioned about the rarity of that actually occurring I was doubting myself.

What's the planet rotation changes in the notes, and what exactly were people struggling with?

So basically every issue seen from the streamed leaks is fixed now. Holy shit.

Either fixed or planned to be fixed. They said all among they wanted to keep adding features. This includes addressing issues. And they'll listen to the community.

This is just the beginning

These are great ideas. Are you watching, Sean?

Love the patch. I've been lucky enough to get a slightly early copy and that's really gonna add to the game - especially being able to carry more resources!

Low atmosphere and dead moons are exactly what I wanted to hear, also more diverse biomes and storm types are awesome!
