Looks like major changes coming to Pokemon GO's tracking system...

Toki767 recently posted some screen shots in the official Pokemon GO thread that warrant a thread of their own

it looks like he is part of the new test group who gets the opportunity to mess with the new UI that Niantic is working on

i tried to get him to make a thread on it but he decided to pass on it, so i thought i'd share what he shared...as i said, def worthy of a new thread imho

update: Toki767 made a gif which demonstrates the changes...

Whoa! My Nearby section just changed. It will show the closest Pokestop if a pokemon is near there now.

When you press a pokemon and click view, it zooms out and takes you to this overview map now. The pokemon is in the pink circle I'm guessing?

Pressing on a pokemon under "Sightings" gives a generic message now. Wonder if they'll provide some sort of tracking for that.

Selecting the pokemon to track will also put an actual marker on your live map.

Thankfully if a pokemon you're tracking despawns, you get this message.

Pokestops themselves emit a pulse. So I imagine any pokemon you're currently tracking will be inside that pulse.

I'm totally okay with the loss of Pokevision if this proves to work correctly and not bring more bugs into the mix.

yay another pokemon go feature that will be great for city players but is a giant middle finger to anyone in an area without a lot of pokestops.

:/

if instead of being pokestop related it can just be put a spot on your map that would be okay though, as long as the spot is small enough that you can easily cover the whole thing in 3 minutes or so.

cannot wait.

I’ve only been playing for a week and didn’t even use the third-party sites, but the lack of proper tracking was already getting painful. I’ve been meeting people with this game and this will be a big game changer.

Wow, great. I just assumed the update was to add the grass graphic as a placeholder, I had no idea it was more detailed. Right now it really just is almost like a slot machine to see which Pokemon hopefully pops up.

So good.

Getting a new phone in the next week or so, I'll be joining you guys soon.

What team should I join though? ;)

Doesn't make much sense if the Pokemon isn't near a Pokestop like most of the ones near my apartment.

If it does just basically highlight a circle on the map where the Pokemon will be located within, I guess that's alright. But if it's pinging Pokestops and finding Pokemon locations based on how far they are from the Pokestop nearest them, they once again don't give a damn about anybody playing in areas where Ingress players didn't mark up the map with locations.

This looks interesting, but I love how hypocritical it is given their "the nearby system was too complicated" excuse. Looks to be considerably more complicated that 'getting warmer'.

Other information from the OT concerning tracking:

Anyone else can confirm ? Someone on Reddit confirmed that testing and was able to find a pokemon.

I did some testing with the new Sighting (Nearby Replacement) and found some things out with it.

It scans the area around you roughly every ~15 seconds
Any new pokemon that spawn on this scan will be added to the sightings list.
If a pokemon despawns it will be removed from the sightings list.
If you move too far away from a pokemon it will be removed from the sightings list.

On number 4 I found this distance to be around 700 feet (which is what I believe the 3 step max use to be).

Someone on Reddit confirmed that testing and was able to find a pokemon.

Allright, some little light from dataminers:

"Tracked_Pokemon_Found" = "You found the Pokémon you were tracking.";
"Tracked_Pokemon_Lost" = "The Pokémon you were tracking is gone.";

Also Pokemon Go plus code began to be inputed:

PGPStrings.bundle folder was added.
