No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

The only thing that's killing me is the inventory, it's seriously dampening my spirits. If I had 9999 stacks or unlimited stacks I would farm for days.

Does it ever get repetitive/tiring/boring after doing the same thing over and over again after the first few planets?

I figured it would be best if he heard it from you guys.

Anyone know?

(This thread is moving!)

I will preface my statement by saying I was always a little skeptical of this game, and that I've only played it for a few hours.

If the thrill of exploration, discovery, collecting crafting, and resource management is not something that enthralls you, then you might want to take a pass. Every time you ship takes off it consumes resources that must be collected, so every time you set down you have to be conscious of the fact that you need enough materials to take off again. Collecting fuel for your ship isn't hard or bothersome as it's relatively plentiful on the surface of most planets.....but it's just kind of dull and tedious. Imagine if every Cab Ride or Quick Travel in GTA/Skyrim cost you some finite and mildly scarce resource. My sense of freedom is constantly limited by my knowledge that every pitstop eats into my earnings and will cost me more time engaging in the somewhat tedious task of mining resources.

You cannot understand the language of the primary alien species in the game, so interacting with them requires you to learn the language. Each little monument of theirs you find on a planet lets you learn one word of their entire language. The monuments are not hard to find, but it's kind of a duanting thought how far away you are from fluency....particularly combined with the fuel/resource management aspects I mentioned earlier. It feels like the mother of all those Assassin's Creed waypoint collection systems.

Some planets have hostile environments (radiation, low/high temperatures) where just standing on the planet's surface means you take damage that must be repaired by the minerals you find. So again, I feel like I'm not really incentivized to explore.

Combine this all with a punishingly tiny inventory system and I don't think it's a recipe for success. It'd be one thing if I could just grind out all the materials I need for a long play-session, but because inventory is so limited you can't just stock up and go for hours.

Progression so far is basically just "You need X item to continue, find/buy items Y and Z to craft X." I'm already a little tired of it, but I hope the game opens up more significantly and isn't just this same loop repeated ad infinitum.

I think the Minecraft generation might love No Man's Sky, but for me the fundamentals seem very flawed -- it's just not that fun to play. I can't get that excited about crafting, collecting, or "Congratulations you just earned 1/1000 checkpoints towards language fluency" I think they just leaned too hard and heavy on the survival and resource management aspects of the game.....if it really was GTA in outer space and it was freed from the necessity of frequent resource collection, I might feel a bit different.

In my fourth system with the pre order ship, never did the hyperdrive quest.

And...Accidentally bought a ship with no hyperdrive. No longer have the quest available and can't jump back to the old systems now. Am I boned?
Man second time I've heard this. Not rightly sure what you can do. If you figure it out please post what the solution was. I didn't even know any ships were being sold without hyperdrives.

I got grudge sucked!
Right now the only issue I have is the limited inventory. I found a few Gek settlements on the first planet before I left for the 1st space station. Thinking about going back and investigating a few ? areas, maybe learn a few new words and recipes.

Every ship in my system is without a hyperdrive so far. I'll happily buy my way out if I find one.

Anyone notice this is the first Sony-published PS4 game with a logo on the spine instead of plaintext in Europe?

I tried to like the game. I wanted to.

But I can't play open world games. After about an hour I just get immensely tired. I don't know if its boredom or information overload or what.

Luckily Sony refunded me the game. Maybe I'll pick up I Am Setsuna or something.

Info overload i'd say. The game dumps alot on you off the bat.

This is exactly what I was concerned about this game from the beginning. 18 quintillion planets to visit but they are mostly the same apart from some colors and terrain changes and. It enough real change to make it more engaging. I have my game coming tomorrow but now I am not sure if I should open it.... I really want to play this game as it has space exploration which is something I love and dream about but feel like I might get bored real soon due to repetitiveness

I am torn :(

I'd just get it and see if you like it. some seem to be able to see past the obvious sameyness and still enjoy it. I still plan on getting to the center of the universe, but I'll be spending way less time on planets.

I definitely plan on getting this on PC though, as hopefully the mods will be glorious.

Played for a couple hours. The game's decent so far. Glad I've kept my expectations in check for so long. What I can't stand, however, is the framerate and FOV. I highly recommend that anyone who can run it decently on their PC to get it there as the PS4 version has left me with pretty bad motion sickness and I had to stop playing. :(

Infinite inventory PLEASE!!! Sometimes, I just skip the containers because it just makes my inventory fuller. So annoying!!!

I tend to feel like the game might be better on PC, where you can just run a cheat/trainer to bypass all the tedious collection aspects and get your way around that crummy inventory limitations. Just have all the major resources stack at 10,000 or something.

Just played this game for 6-7 hours with my friend and discussing and arguing. This game is just not fun to play... Am I missing something here? I know this game is suppose to be big and all, it's just that we did all the space travel, finding different planets, and alien creatures, but it's just not fun...

After a long, painfully boring day at work, I'm finally home!

Although, apparently, I have to do something called "eating," so I can't play it just yet.

My wife played it for a few hours and she really likes it. She says it's "like Mass Effect without the combat. Or like Starbound." She played the fuck out of Mass Effect, so she'd know. She also plays the fuck out of Minecraft, Fallout, and Skyrim, so I trust her opinion. She was disappointed with her starter planet, but she's enjoying it so far. She lost track of time while playing it, which is always an encouraging sign.

I'll be streaming my adventures after I eat!

Was able to squeeze in a couple of hours, and managed to leave my death trap of a starting planet to a nearby water world paradise. Nice weather, friendly, warm sunsets. I've realised that my crippling fear of water in games may prevent me from exploring the depths though. I had a quest from a beacon that lead me into an underwater cave. I made a few passes backwards and forwards before going in, was a bit scary; glad there were no sea creatures.

From that though I got my hyperdrive... It just kind of popped up? Wonder if it was different since it was underwater and maybe in the wall of a cave?

Yup. They nailed a ton but forgot to put great gameplay and playability in.

Lol at people asking for infinite inventory. How is it a survival game if you have everything you need all the time.

Anyway to get back to a certain location on a planet? I want to go back to a trade bot, but I haven't the slightest idea how to get back. Any in game planet map?

Decided to buy my next new ship! I'd be lying if I said I didn't want the one I saw with a 32 INV but at almost 6 million I'm a long way off owning one.

Why can't we rename them too. It's kind of weird we can name anything else but I can't call my ship Starbug.

Okay, so I found what I'm pretty sure is supposed to be a portal. At least it looks like the thing from the trailers but it was powered off. I wonder if there is something I was supposed to do with it.

They should just come out and say "we couldn't make it work, we tried, maybe we will put it in later, maybe not."
This would also be fine. It's very likely that they can't say one way or the other due to legal shit, like Sean mentioned in his AMA. Either way, this will always be a SP game for me. Letting people see the shit I've discovered and vice versa is an awesome touch, but I don't want some 15 year old screaming into my atmosphere and carving dicks into the vista's of my paradise. Get off my lawn!

No I agree. World is great but the gameplay loop is a bit boring.

Anyone know what Heridium looks like? I'm sitting at a deposit, scanning everything and have no clue what to do or how to get it..I figured it'd be like gathering other resources like platinum or iron, but it's a blue icon, so I interact with it?

I'm only now about 6 hours in, and I am LOVING this game. I can already tell that I am going to put untold hours into it.

My starter planet was a terrible radioactive hell hole of a planet, but that was good, because it caused me to get a grasp on the survival mechanics quickly. Most of the few creatures on the planet were passive, with the exception of these little things that looked as if they should run away, but no, they ran around and rammed me repeatedly. Even with the planet being pretty barren, I still loved every minute of exploring it.

I even did what some people have said not to do - When something was like 12 or 15 minutes away, I still did it on foot and have enjoyed every minute of it.

I affectionately named that first planet "Foramen Stercore". ;) I'm glad the filter doesn't look for Latin currently. lol

I am really enjoying it so far. I'm certainly not going to try to rush my way to the center - I'm enjoying the exploration way too much.

I can definitely see this game not being for everyone though. I'm not sure it should have gotten hyped quite as much as it did, as that is going to attract a lot of people to it that probably won't like it.

It's a tall rectangular block of stone. Its top is sloped as well, I think.
I was just looking at one in this space station and it doesn't have a hyperdrive either. I'm not sure.
Ships only seem to spawn with hyperdrives once you've rceived the bluepriny.

I think a lot of people didn't want or expect this to be a survival game. There's a lot of people that love Elder Scrolls or Fallout, but immediately disable systems like encumbrance or inventory limitation.

Oh man I found some incredibly sweet looking ships with 24 slots... a great throwback '70s scifi vibe to them (like a lot of the art really).

They were selling for around 1.3million units so I'll have to farm a bit more, will be a very nice upgrade from my pre-order reward ship.

My local Target, Best Buy, Wal-mart, and Gamestop were all sold out when I went to get a copy tonight. Is that normal for a release day?

Luckily I wasn't going to be able to get any significant playtime in until the weekend anyway. Worst case scenario, I'll just get it digitally thursday.

I put in the pre-order code for the vector ship but can't find it? Any ideas?

Tap the touchpad to go into the menu, and under OPTIONS, there will be "Redeem Items" option that lets you get your pre-order bonuses and/or Limited Edtion goodies. If you're getting the ship, you cannot redeem it unless you are on the surface of a planet and not inside your current ship.

big tall pillars of shiny black rock. In weird geometric symmetry, like a rectangle. Must be nearby somewhere?

Yeah oddly I have them and I'm not seeing ones installed on the ships in this space station.

Someone found me in the game. I get a message on PSN from a complete stranger asking me if I'm on some randomly named planet. I'm like, "wait, okay, where? In the game?"

Then I get a screenshot of the other player's map screen and one of the planets is named "Ceti Alpha V" with the same number of planets and went on to describe the exact same place I started out. The first two systems we played in are identical, weird names and all.
