Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yep, pretty much, and it doesn't help that I don't find the game to be visually pleasing artistically nor on the tech side of things and the appearance of the fauna is just silly. I really cannot find any redeeming qualities other than the concept of a grand spacefaring exploration game. I hate to use this word because I know these guys put love into developing this game but I think it is janky through and through.

Man I am bummed. I just got to my third and 4th system and both of them have already been found by someone else. If this game is so big why are people already finding planets from someone else. If I keep on the path set for me I am sure I will just keep following the same guy....

This is what I'm worried about.

There should be a renaming system even if the database is only for folks who found it first.

Patch that in at least.

Take a different path then? You don't have to take the path the game sets up for you.

Played it about 4 hours so far and I think I am already starting to get bored. The planets are starting to feel same-ish, managing my inventory is painful and overall the game is starting to feel like work. The music is nice and the atmosphere is really great even if what I'm actually doing isn't much fun. I actually bought it for my wife and not myself, so I hope she'll like it more than I do.

so I just need a general round of impressions. I am undecided on whether I buy this game on ps4 or pc... some of the slowdown that I have seen online in videos has me a bit bothered but I really want all of your opinions so far

I really like it but I'm in a bit of a slow down. I need parts to refuel my warp drive and I just can't get the shit I need so I'm stuck. Inventory management is horrid. That is the one thing I don't like. It's way too tedious and you just don't have nearly enough space to carry all the stuff you need just to survive.

I've played this game for about 8 hours now, and it's never crashed on me.

People are saying it might because I didn't redeem the preorder ship?

What have you done, so far? Are you out of your first system? Cause if you focus on the "story", it should keep it way more interesting than it sounds like you find it.

They definitely need to implement some kind of quick resource reload. It really kills the flow of battles (and sometimes kills me) when I have to go into a menu to refill my shields.

I honestly don't have time to read the 130 pages here. Can someone please summarize GAF impressions? From the stuff I've read, it boils down to

--Game is relatively disappointing.
--Repetiive
--Combat Sucks
--Exploration is fun at first but grows tiresome
--Inventory system frustrations

The vibe I'm getting is about a 6.5/10. If I'm wrong, please let me know, but nothing about the impressions so far has made me think "I need to get this game, today".

I think your problem is you've been reading other threads instead of this OT where people are actually playing it. I can honestly say the vast majority of feedback has been very positive. There are some issues (game crashes, server problems) and various bits of UI that need some TLC, but by and large people are responding well to the game.

On a similar note, I just had the misfortune to watch Jim's video impressions, and...what a joyless, cynical S.O.B. that man is. Breaking everything down to individual game mechanics and concluding that there's nothing exciting to do. This game was not made for people like him.

The limited edition packaging is so nice. I wasn't expecting everything to be in the book like box. I love it.

Absolutely adore the game so far.

Finally got into my first dogfight with space pirates. It was exhilarating. Managed to kill them and use their loot to help fund my first purchased in game ship. The extra cargo space is sure gonna make life as a trader easier.

Thanks so much for all the impressions, y'all. Waiting on the PC release, and reading through this thread it seems like it's my kind of game. I always spend far longer exploring and vamping on stuff than most gamers I know, even in games with directed content. Love a sandbox.

Friday can't come soon enough.

This was a cool planet. Loaded with life too.

In my first star system I picked one of the story paths and thought there was a line guiding me on the star map pertaining to it......I don't see that guiding line anymore. If I want to take a few steps down the story path again, how do I go about it?

So, I just bought a ship off a guy in a space station, and Im standing here looking at it, and am I seeing this right, or does it not have a warp drive?

How do I make one?

I'm in my second system, I got the antimatter blueprint and am gathering the stuff I need to craft that. I'm just already tired of going from waypoint to waypoint and just gathering stuff to make the thing i need to get to the next waypoint, especially with the inventory system.

If I can get some more storage space that would help, so I'll look into that. And I probably will stick to the story, and just focus on trying to get to the center of the galaxy.

Yeah, no. You need to decide for yourself. A lot of people love it. There are some who are the loudest who hate it, but really the people who bitch the loudest need to leave. What about all the good things people are saying about it? Precisely why you need to read a few pages. There are loads of people who are praising it here, the bad comments just stand out.

Yeah. And we've had bitching going on about the game for 3 years. It's like some people just have decided to hate it just because so many of us love it.

I mean, I get that no game is for everyone, but it just seems that there is a very vocal group of people who want everyone else to hate it too. Either that, or they are just being contrary for the sake of being contrary.

There are PLENTY of popular games that I personally don't like at ALL, but I don't run around telling everyone why they should hate them.

Amazon failed me. Did not deliver on release date like they said they would. It was the Limited Edition too..

Anyways, I cancelled my order.

If today taught me anything it was that I'd rather have this game on PC. I'll just wait for Friday.

Kind of sad about the art book though.

See you space cowboys...

If there is a crashed ship and it has worse everything except its warp drive. Is there any way to just take its warp drive and leave the rest of it?

On the PS4 you use R1/L1 to toggle between "Free" and "Guided" mode on the star map.

So I discovered a few upgrades to my multitool and now that I have more materials I don't recall what I discovered. And I have no slots open on my tool. Can I seriously not see a list of known recipes without an open build slot?

You got had!

Be sure to compare before buying. It's the galactic version of the test drive.

Make sure you contact them. Amazon is usually pretty good about giving you something when this happens. It won't get you the game, but it is still something.

Sorry yours didn't arrive.

The consensus from both the OT and Reddit seems to be really positive from those playing the game, with people having lots of great little experiences to tell. I'm really enjoying reading everyone's impressions.

Any way to switch between a boltcaster and you're mining deal? Or do I have to dismantle my boltcaster add-on to get back to the regular mining tool?

I haven't watched any streams, what happens when someone pauses the game? Does it actually pause the world, or is it like Dark Souls? I remember in Watch Dogs, the give away that you were about to be invaded was pause wouldn't actually pause.

sooo I just had 5 crashes in about 10 minutes, always trying to do the same thing.

blue path appeard on my map, "annomaly detected", I gotta pass through 3 systems to reach it, I have the fuel and everything but can only jump 1 system at a time. Crashed the 5 times I tried to go through the 2nd out of 3 systems. seems to be "golden path" too.... Oh well Ill retry tomorrow...

not sure how that game passed through cert.

edit : on the other side, scored a pretty nice multitool made of flesh, theeth and crystals... lol

Seriously, the inventory as of now is a nuisance and really makes exploration a pain in the ass. What's worse that upgrades take up inventory. Why do that?

Picked this game up digitally after decent impressions.

I'm about 3 hours in, made my warp drive, so I am in my second system.

It's fun, I wish the ship controls were a bit better though. Maybe that is something that improves with better ships.

It's interesting, but I'm not sure if it will continue to hold my interest for hours and hours.
