I'm glad this happened for us PC players as I would have bought it on release if it was day and date with PS4 and probably been just outside the 2 hour window for refund before I realized it's not the game they said it would be.

Yeah, I'm actually really glad the PC version got delayed. I would NOT have wanted to find out about these things after having bought the game. I would've bought the game on day 1 for sure due to all the hype had it not been for the PC delay.

No really, Murray already responded to the controversy on his twitter. Attributed the two players not seeing each other to server issues caused by too many people playing at the same time. What more do you want?

There are so many tweets on Twitter, the chance that anyone finds those tweets and reads them is so slim, depending on how many people use Twitter it might never happen .

With the thread about the Neo making it possible to fundamentally change the game, I wonder if they had to scrap a bunch of features for the ps4 version?

I hope that if thats the case they still retained them for PC. And if they have to pick from one or the other, that they prioritize the PC version. I know this is wishful thinking, but if they are planning on making NMS a platform for continuous development, PC is your best bet.

If this is true, then it's really shitty

It's not even a small fib. It baits people into imagining a whole lot more. If something miniscule like that happens, people will assume a whole lot more events like that happen too

Am I right in thinking animals just walk or attack?

I really wonder if they wanted a few more months, but sony said no

Hey you can read it for yourself:

It was posted a few pages back.

Are you suggesting Murray is naive then? Because the implication here seems to be that his radio silence is deliberately to try to avoid the issue even thought he could do that just as easily by continuing to tweet about anything and everything else while selectively ignoring the MP issue.

Because if he was actively tweeting, he would get more and more people asking him the question he obviously doesn't want to answer. This isn't hard. People tend to go radio-silent when they are trying to avoid a question.

Yes. Animals literally only walk in large-ish circles and do absolutely nothing to each other.
If you get close, some will attack you.

Welcome to the animal kingdom in space.

But if you tell me a lie, and then the time comes where that lie is now impacting me, just because you are unable to contact me for whatever reason and explain your lie, it doesn't change the fact that you lied. That should be the key thing here.

Yeah I agree with you, I think we are crossing wires lol.

All the pre-release promises are on HG, especially considering they would have known the state of the game when they delayed it and what was canned. No sharing with the public though.

Something else I've noticed playing - if you unplug the ethernet cable (or remove wireless) from your PS4, you can still rename and upload planets, creatures etc. It gives you the credits too, despite having no internet connection. I'm going to packet capture reconnecting the cable in a bit to see what happens to your naming.

I agree that there is no multiplayer on August 11th, 2016. According to Murray it's due to server issues. I don't know if he's telling the truth. My point is that he already gave an explanation, so I'm not sure what else people are waiting for.

Again, the game does not have multiplayer without a patch to implement it. It's not servers. That's the bet I'm proposing.

The tweets are there. Take a look over to your right - they're right over there. You just can't see them.

The fact that two people can tweet -has blown my mind. It's a testament to their network coders.

I think a lot of us here can genuinely appreciate the enthusiasm and skill it takes for a team as small as HG. I just think we are also not going to excuse things because of it either. I like Sean Murray, I really think he's a good guy, but this is no excuse for deceiving your audience.

Probably just saves it locally to upload when there is a connection.

The more I watch of this game the more I think I know why you can't see other players and maybe why it wasn't implemented.

THERE IS LITERALLY NO CHARACTER MODEL.

There is no visible hands holding the guns, it is just a floating gun.
When you commander a ship you are just inserted into the model with no view of your body, as if they just moved the camera into a ship.

Just my guess.

You'll have to explain how not actively tweeting prevents anyone with a chip on their shoulder from blasting him with the question anyway. I hardly think he's any more oblivious to that than the rest of us.

There's also no netcode for it. Grab Wireshark, plug your PS4 through your PC, and dump all the traffic - there's literally 0 bytes transmitted or received when walking or flying. Not that it would work anyway, given time pauses forever when you press Options menu, so every planet and object is in a different place for every player.

Didn't you just post that a page ago?

Also, what twisted reasoning is this? Do you suggest there is multiplayer and players do meet but you can't see them because they forgot to implement the character models? What?

I don't know why you are having such a hard time grasping this. I don't know man. Do something very controversial. Something that people all around you will constantly ask you why you did it and make it something you don't want to answer to. Chances are good that you'll find yourself avoiding social media and people that may ask you about it.

uhhh, no? And I am not saying they forgot to implement character models, I am saying that there flat out isn't one.

There are way too many people posting right now. Maybe some of you can just log out? Decide amongst yourselves plz. That has blown my mind.

That's not how models work in most games. When you play FPS games, you see things like hand models a lot of the time. The hand model you are seeing is not the same hand model that other players see. There is a first person model, typically with better detail and animations with it.

I mean, even that would be a lie because they said that they did fully model the character models.

Uh, this is how many, many FPSs work. More modern FPSs have an entire body moving below you so you can see your feet when you look down, but if you play slightly older titles like Half Life 2 or TF2, it's literally just arms floating just below the camera.

We should be able to know if this is the case once the game releases for pc

Yes this is true, but hear me out.

I'm still going to stick on this theory of mine.

it's possible that they currently did not implement any player character models.
That's why there is no 3rd person perspective, The close(zoomed) fov to cover the supposed hands, the absence of hands holding on weapons, the player entering the ship animation, the no hands on the cockpit controls, no hand animation interaction on the environment and because The players won't be seeing each other anyway, what's the point of adding this element at all

=Edit-
Every tool and weapon you use is all 1 handed. There is no 2 handed utility/weapons because it will expose the illusion of an actual character model

I mean, at least other FPS games have the illusion that you are more than a floating gun moving around.... there is literally no character model in First person in this game. Why can I see my hands and feet in games like Battlefront, BLOPS 3, and Halo?

So is this multiplayer shit storm only limited to gaf or is it hitting mainstream gaming sites?

Watching some of the bigger streamers play the game is like night and day between what's going on in this thread. None of them even seem care one bit about multiplayer. They only talk about it if chat starts bringing it up.

Again: it seems you are not realizing that these would be different kind of character models.

Just because the player in first person has no hands doesn't mean full character models for other players can't exist. (But they likely don't exist in this case)

Because they modelled the hands in those games but not in NMS. That still has nothing to do with a full character model.

Are there any inter-species interactions? Something at all along the lines of this moment in the "gameplay trailer". Even just things like one species running away from the other.

https://youtu.be/nLtmEjqzg7M?t=76

No. And animals don't interact with the environment either apart from making grass move when they touch it.

Artistic director Grant Duncan recalled roaming an alien planet once shooting at birds out of boredom. “I hit one and it fell into the ocean,” he recalled. “It was floating there on the waves when suddenly, a shark came up and ate it. The first time it happened, it totally blew me away.”

Are you telling me the shark is a lie? PLEASE TELL ME HE DIDN'T LIE ABOUT THE SHARK!?!?!!

Son, you know the answer.
Look inside your procedural heart.

They're going to allow you to do "upload" offline or players who don't have a connection won't be able to make any money. It won't literally be uploading.

TF2 has third-person character models for all 9 classes but no first-person model for them (apart from their arms). Boot up the game, look down. No legs/feet.

That's just how some FPSs are made.

So wait, I'm confused. Is the galaxy static or do planets actually orbit their stars and the stars the center of the galaxy? Do you encounter gravity when in orbit? If you're on a planet and look up at a night sky that's a skybox not the actual position of the stars as you'd see them looking up? What fake suns? I was under the impression this game was like a more interactive version of Elite or the pretty awesome Space Engine? Is this not what that is? How big are the planets you land on? Man this seems to be getting more confusing the more I read this thread.

One universe, many galaxies linked by a "hyperwarp" method located at the center of each galaxy. Each galaxy has many solar systems that can be warped to and from each other from a menu, but each solar system is just planets, moons, and asteroids surrounded by a skybox at infinity, where a sun is painted at one end, but is not reachable. There is gravity on each planet, but the gravity at each planet is the same, which is odd. No heavy or bouncy planet gravity, which could have been really nice, and incredibly easy to implement. You cannot throw your ship in orbit. If you don't keep your thrusters on, you stop, so you can't maintain a high speed without burning fuel. This game is more exploration than space simulation.

I kinda knew a little about first person and third person models being different, I should have specified. I guess it is just weird that there is no visual indication from a First Person perspective that you are anything more than a floating gun. Just kinda strange is all

Yes I AGREE! there are 2 models, 1 in my perspective and the other one is for the rest of the players who is viewing me. with different animations for both models in sync
On this game there is none on both sides. They didn't even bother making the floating hands

So why? they rushed for the scheduled release and they will just patch this in the future with the mp.

(Overall, this is just my speculation/theory)

Even without the hand models, they could still show a full player model if others saw you. (in this case not, obviously ... there is no MP)
