Eurogamer: NX = portable w/ carts, detachable controllers, Tegra, TV Out, no BC, Sept

Well, perhaps Nintendo is tired of being doomed and wants to turn the tables on us all.

Maybe Kimishima lied when he said hee didn't know what NX stood for... Nintendo Terminator TX

And Skynet is an SCD!

But actually I do hope we eventually learn what NX stood for, it's a cool code name.

Reminder, no one should be expecting an official announcement of the reveal date tomorrow. At best we will see reports of press invites going out, and at worst the NX will travel back in time to kill John Conner thus dooming humanity.

Edit: sorry no inside info, just using logic.
I think that's what we want though is the press invites to know what the date is.

I'm not really waiting for anything. I waited for Hot Chips and that was it.

If Nintendo were doing a press event to have journalists try out the NX, there should be final retail units ready and attachable to women just like the 3DS.
To prevent theft duh.

Otherwise we're getting a Nintendo Direct only presentation and getting to try out NX physically won't happen until sometime later.

Anything NX related happening during September is a 50% chance at this point without knowing anything more specific.

Again, didn't Eurogamer specifically mention a September reveal? Nintendo's kinda running out of time to reveal this thing.

How it's getting revealed is why I'm not waiting.

If it gets announced now it will happen. If there are final retail units ready that would be good for expectations about the launch in March and having software prepared.

If nothing happens until September, I'll start waiting during September until new leaks happen or the announcement occurs.

If this system has both cartridge and compact disc it will be mind blowing and amazing at the same time
It's only gonna be cartridges going off of the rumor. The fact that Panasonic has said nothing about working with Nintendo on something new kinda points towards the NX being cartridge-only.

Besides, you can't really use discs for a handheld form factor (hence the hybrid part).

Waste of money when cartridge has basically no downsides other than cost and including both a disc drive and a cartridge slot nullifies the money saved by using discs.

This. You never share information that puts a source in jeopardy. Ever. Their safety is paramount.

Not that its directly related.. I regret hearing no leaked nintendo stuff... Except hearing about roy and ryu from ssb4 being leaked both times (via dlc download and the day before with the actual videos)

(Way) back in the day, my family had a game console where the cartridges were metallic triangles that fit onto the top of the device as if they were part of the console. It was great, Nintendo should do something similar.

Bonus: a hybrid game console!

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Not necessarily, since the Xbox One was announced 6 months before release. September would be 6 months prior.

Yeah Sept is fine for a reveal, but if it is gonna be live and not digital invites have to go out soon.

You don't send out invites a week before and expect your guests to be able to plan in time.

So 3 weeks from now puts them already at the 13th.

At that point, it'll be digital if it's in September, though I could just wake up tomorrow with invite posts from journalists all over my social media in the morning or early afternoon. Either way, they both draw the same crowd, typically. Proper marketing will take care of the wider audience.

Whether or not they choose to use a live conference format or a recorded direct to announce and discuss the NX with us, there will invites. There's always a press event.

Sometimes it's like you enjoy having threads closed.

I'm confident we'll get something in September. Whether that's the unveil itself or its respective announcement I don't know. But, in perhaps blind optimism in my part, I'm aiming for the former. Nintendo would do well to squeeze the best level of goodwill they've enjoyed in years with mainstream audiences (Breath of the Wild, Pokémon Go, NES Mini Classic, Ma-Rio at the Olympics) and get the word out on a new system of theirs coming out early next year, before they're drowned by the marketing campaigns of their competitors come the holidays.

Yeah they're on a roll right now momentum-wise. As long as they reveal it before the holiday maelstrom of games starting in late October, they should be good.

I said this earlier but they're not running out of time if they just do a Direct and not a live presentation or anything that the press gets invited to for just September. Granted I don't think that would be the best way to reveal it but it's absolutely not out of the realm of possibility.

But at the same time, regardless of if it's a press event or a Digital Event, you still need to get the word out about the event. Plus with Digital Events, there's also behind-closed-doors demos that result in previews going on YouTube right after the Direct.

Why would they be running out of time for a September event, or need to do it digital? I must be missing something. There's been plenty of times the press has been given just a week or two's notice for big events. There's also been times where they were secretly given information early, and even hands-on experiences, which they then wrote about at the same time as an announcement/reveal.

Of course, I still think Nintendo could do the reveal in March without affecting much - the first shipments of any console always sell out anyways, even the Wii U did that. Heavy marketing isn't needed until after launch these days.

The way I see it, if they go digital for the reveal, then they'll likely do something in the style of the E3 2014-15
(2014 pls)
Digital Event presentations. For both of those, they drummed up hype for nearly 6 weeks before. Sure, that was for E3, but they've got as much or more riding on this NX reveal than they did on either of the two Digital Event E3's. So I'd say we'd get more notice than just 3 days or so for even a digital presentation -- probably a few weeks. Who knows, there might be sweepstakes to come to hands-on events, etc., which require planning weeks in advance.

Remember that, if Nintendo want the press to try the NX to give impressions and to not just show game footage with no console like Sony did with the PS4 there would have to be either final retail units ready or preferably a prototype that won't be much different from the final design.

Assuming let's say that apparently dev kits were sent out last week to 3rd parties with the custom design Nintendo went with for the Tegra.

How long would it have taken for them to come up with a working prototype of the NX to get approved for the design of, and then manufacture and test the units at Foxconn to be suitable for revealing the NX with and having it be played with by the press in September.

Of course, this is quite a lot to ask for anyone to answer, let alone speculate. That's why we need leaks.

For general public yeah, but Nintendo needs to keep the ball rolling to keep investors happy, they need show their plans with NX.

As we get closer and closer to Sept, I'm starting to feel that Nintendo may just opt to do the NX presentation digitally and then have the press try it out in the following days.

Seems simpler, and a more focused message could reach the general audience or those who don't read articles on the internet on gaming sites in a more effective manner. Press conferences and their ramblings about how many devs are on board or their PR talk usually drag too long.

This whole thread aint nothing but the NX. Nobody knows anything ever. Nothing ever happens, no new news, no new details. Nintendo dont even talk about it. Just post 15 second zelda clips on twitter and facebook every other day. No new games, no new nothing. Nothing all the time. Jack shit, Zero, Nada, Nothingness forever.
