Deus Ex: Mankind Divided PC performance thread

Anyone with a 2GB card (in my case, a 960) figure out optimal settings for lower resolutions?

I'm getting with 45-60fps with a mix of medium/high settings at 1680x1050, but the game still feels "choppy." Why is that?

I'm on a 2GB 770 at the 1080. Set it to medium, didn't mix any settings, been feeling decent. I stopped actually measuring my FPS, but it feels like 60 with the occasional drop.

Choppiness is a combination of things. Possibly bad frame pacing? I don't have the technical expertise to make that call, but it feels similar. Also the horrendous mouse acceleration and how it seems to jump a few pixels at a time for small adjustments. Leads to it feeling a lot less smooth. Could be placebo, but setting v-sync in the game to Double Buffering and forcing v-sync through the NVidia control panel makes it seem a bit smoother. Tried RTSS, had it crash, didn't bother again.

I've gotten use to the jank and have been having a good time. Still feels a bit shitty that I was playing the first Deus Ex last night and the mouse controls in that felt genuinely better than this, but eh. Nothing that can't be patched maybe? Only severe issue that I had was the crash at the early train station cutscene right after the opening mission, but it worked when I set it to dedicated fullscreen and disabled subs.

Something must be wrong with their MSAA implementation. Just enabling 2xmsaa on a 980ti and there's a noticeable change in framerate.

Having the sharpening filter on playing on a tv seems good. Maybe on a monitor the sharpening is more noticeable, but at a distance it's fine.

I'm using overwatch SLI bits, (which nvidia inspector actually names deus ex bits)

and my usage is even between two cards, with NO actual increase in FPS

I think it's a fantastic port, but the sharpening option is just brutal. It's kind of needed if you use TAA, because the blur it causes is also intense.. The sharpening option needs to be a slider.

Lots of you have beastly computers, so for the low-end crowd here I've got you covered. ;)

After lots of tinkering, I think these are the best settings I can work with:

i3-2100
GTX 960 2GB
8GB RAM

Fullscreen: On
Exclusive Fullscreen: On
Resolution: 1680x1050 (native)
MSAA: Off
Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
VSync: Off
Stereoscopic 3D: Off
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filtering: 4x Anisotropic
Shadow Quality: Medium
Ambient Occlusion: On
Contact Hardening Shadows: Off
Parallax Occlusion Mapping: On
Depth of Field: Off
Level of Detail: Medium
Volumetric Lighting: Off
Screenspace Reflections: On
Temporal Anti-Aliasing: On
Motion Blur: Off
Sharpen: Off
Bloom: On
Cloth Physics: Off
Subsurface Scattering: Off
Chromatic Aberration: Off
Tessellation: Off

With these settings in the first area I'm getting between 50 and 60fps.

The benchmark results are:

Average: 44.7 FPS
Minimum: 33.7 FPS
Maximum: 57.7 FPS

Runs awesome on my GTX 1060 6gb i7 4770k @ 3.5ghz and 16gigs of ram. At 1080p with these settings:
Just out of curiosity, what is your definition of "awesome"? Rock solid 60FPS with only occasional dips to mid 50's? If so, that would be great. I have a GTX 1060 too, but my CPU is quite a bit weaker. Don't think most gameplay scenarios in this game would hit the CPU too hard, though. I would be satisfied with these settings.

The performance was good for me in the starting area, but once I got to the actual big city hub (after you take the train for the first time), it tanked.

I have AMD 1055T and GTX 1060. Game runs near 60 fps. Some drops to 40-45.

EVGA GTX 1080 FTW (+85 GPU core clock offset and +200 to memory).

I'm appear to be getting a steady 60fps at 1080p with everything set to ULTRA (or the equivalent max) save for MSAA being off. I've only completed the first mission and have been walking around in Prague. I also forgot to mention I have tripple buffered vsync enabled.

They are completely random. I am talking about benchmarks. I posted my settings in this topic. Let me search that post.
In game without vsync it's mostly over 60 fps. If I enable it, it drops to 34-45 for a split second. Weird.
What?? That sounds weird. The way v-sync works, if frame rate drops below 60FPS, it automatically goes down to 30FPS. Unless you use adaptive v-sync.

Anyway, I looked up your CPU and it seems pretty old and even dated. Perhaps the benchmarks are more CPU intensive?

I have the following system and these are pretty much the settings I'm running as well.

FX 8320 3.5Ghz
GTX 960 2GB
8GB RAM
1920 x 1080

FPS is in the 40s. I kept the level of detail at High though. Might change that. I had some other options like Volumetric Lighting on while in the first area. Notice an issue in the second. Want to head back outside after making changes that are now closer to what was listed here. Going to mess with exclusive full screen later as well.

Thanks for this. Any reason why you didn't bump Textures to Ultra? The GTX 1060 has 6GB of VRAM, which should be more than enough. Also, just curious, but others seem to be running this game at higher settings and perhaps even better performance. Seems strange...

Yeah will probably push the settings tonight. Didn't get much time to tinker around.

Yup, they should have just removed some graphics options, so that it runs 100fps on 980Ti at "max settings". Then people would be happy.

Contact hardening shadows IMO look worse than the normal ones and they tank the framerate. But some poople will still enable them to "max" the game and then complain about performance.

I just posted that link, but looks like it's falling on deaf ears (or rather blind eyes):

Let's assume that contact hardening shadows are not in the game - there is no option to enable them, we would never know they could be in the game. Suddenly the optimization is SO MUCH BETTER! right?

Ran into my first crash, leaving the Shooting Range after completing the tutorial. I guess I'll never get to do that, lol.

It's crashed for me 3 times in the shooting range. First when I picked up the Rifle and tried to select it from the inventory wheel. Second while upgrading the pistol. And third after the tutorial and I tried to skip the cutscene of Jensen grabbing his coat from the locker. Luckily the autosave happened after I already completed it so I wouldnt have to do it again.

I've posted the same things several times and nobody listens.

CHS look like shit and tank framerate. I'm running the most powerful graphics card in the world, yet still disabled them.

Cool, my game has crashed twice now at the train station during that walk and talk scene. The first time I was using borderless fullscreen with subtitles on and the second time I was in windowed mode with subtitles off. I'm about to try exclusive fullscreen to see if that helps.

I disabled them immediately, so I don't even know what I'm "missing" (looks like I'm missing blurry shadows that cut off to early and also I'm missing framerate cut by 50%).

They should seriously patch them out of graphics options, along with MSAA, and let them be changed only in ini file. But then there would be a problem, that if CHS or MSAA got accidental enabled by some glitch, it would be harder for non tech savvy folks to disable them.

For my friend the game set MSAA8x by default. Way to go!

Running the game with the high preset at 1080p with vsync on and minor tweaks(16x AF, cloth physics off). There's some occasional hitching in the hub area, but for for the most part I'm getting between 50 and 60fps.
With the GeforceExperience recommended settings the game runs a rocksolid 60 fps though.
Is exclusive fullscreen recommended on or off?
I had some really bad framepacing issues and stutter without it, so go figure.

Either I'm crazy or this game has a serious memory leak issue going on that's bringing my PC to its knees after going through the subway loading screen, and causing poor performance across the board even after the game is closed until I restart my PC.

Haven't been able to finish the first mission, has crashed on my 3 times haha. Yeah, theres probably a memory leak going on :(

The Geforce settings are crap for me, lol. For my 770 it says everything off or low and 1x AF.

Meanwhile I'm here playing on High with 16x AF with 45-60fps and that's fine with me.

Yeah, this benchmark over exaggerated...in game it's 70~80 and reaching 100 inside a room, benchmark area is 65 avg/55min.

The benchmark in Thi4f is the same, which Nixxes also created. I think it's great as all too often in-game benchmarks aren't stressful enough.

Benchmark on my 970 is 45fps average on high settings at x1200. Reading other results, that's lower than it should be.

Always have bad luck with new Nvidia drivers, but is that what'll make the difference?

Man the stuttering is annoying as shit.

I also found turning off exclusive full screen to help,

Something strange is going on, running 980ti and installed latest nvidia driver (15th August) now the game has a higher gpu usage but the temps are also lower?

Example, the main menu on the old driver was using around 45% at 50 - 60 degrees and now with the new driver its using 66% at no more than 55 degrees.

New driver gpu usage can get around 80% (on mostly high settings with vsync

Previous driver never seen it get higher than 70%

I've uninstalled all gpu drivers and gone back to the previous one and performance levels are back to normal.

I've tried the witches 3 with bother drivers and that still runs the same with either driver.

I don't understand what's going on.

Sorry, you're rig just isn't good enough. Should've gotten the new Titan X instead of that peasants card.

Not on my setup, looks the same as proper fullscreen.
Interesting. Probably it's an issue with my task bar being on the left side of the screen then (or dual monitors). I'll experiment

E: Putting the taskbar to the bottom fixed it. I'll see where I can report this behavior to nixxes, should be an easy fix

TAA does a decent job, wouldn't bother with MSAA. Loading times a very quick on SSD. Glad I bought one

There's that one guy on your side who loves the f word. Forgot his name, still doing the "tutorial" mission.

I have an issue where everything runs fine, but loading up menus will lead to a wait that's around 8-10 seconds. Sometimes I'll get into areas where there will be weird stuttering or momentary pauses that lock the game up for 4-6 seconds. It's like the game needs a moment to stream data or something. Not running any MSAA. Everything else is pretty much maxed out. I tried turning CHS off but it makes no difference when it comes to this issue.
