Politico: Trump's campaign CEO once charged in domestic violence case

Stephen K. Bannon, the new CEO of the Donald Trump campaign, was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, battery and dissuading a witness following an incident in early January 1996, though the case was ultimately dismissed, according to a police report and court documents.

The Santa Monica, Calif., police report says that Bannon’s then-wife claimed he pulled at her neck and wrist during an altercation over their finances, and an officer reported witnessing red marks on her neck and wrist to bolster her account. Bannon also reportedly smashed the phone when she tried to call the police.

While the case ended when Bannon's ex-wife did not appear in court, the incident presents a new problem for the Trump campaign following the hiring of the controversial Bannon. He went on leave from Breitbart News, where he is chairman, to take over the Trump campaign.

Bannon, through a spokeswoman, said he was never interviewed by the police about the incident. Bannon pleaded "not guilty" to the allegations and was represented by a local criminal defense attorney during the proceedings.

The couple — who had twin girls — were divorced shortly after the criminal charges were dropped in August 1996.

"The bottom line is he has a great relationship with the twins, he has a great relationship with the ex-wife, he still supports them," said Alexandra Preate, Bannon's spokeswoman.

Look,

I wouldn't be outright shocked if Bill raped someone, the creep is very strong with him and the whole Lewinsky thing was a horribly inappropriate relationship for reasons other than infidelity (i.e. she was an INTERN), but we don't have anything that points to that actually having occured.

The most reputable case is a woman who has launched a lot of conspiracy theories mostly aimed at Hillary and not Bill, and who has never given any deposition or testimony and has some wild inconsistencies in her story. I am not dismissing the possibility out of hand, but that is a much more spurious charge than either Donald Trumps divorce deposition and contemporaneous books about the subject, or a police report with physical evidence of assault.

I don't watch TV news, it seems less relevant these days for a young, ambitious, upwardly mobile person of color, but a chilling wave washed over me at the thought of the alt-right message spreading over television... where ignorance breeds.

Who said we're cool about that. Don't act like you know something we don't.

I strongly dislike both candidates but one is clearly superior to the other. I know it seems like a partisan echo chamber in gaf but it's not our fault shit is happening on an semi hourly basis with Trump that proves he is not presidential material. He is just a populist business man without any political knowledge or background trying to become the president.

I don't think he can even fire Bannon at this point. He's already slathered himself with the stink of failure like he was rolling around in cheap cologne and cat piss, another hot-swap of campaign leaders is going to make him look like a desperate, reactionary loser.
