Discoveries possibly not being saved in No Man's Sky

Would make sense why in only ever came across 2 or 3 systems already discovered by someone else in 40 some hours of playtime. Those were also early on in the Atlas path, so I probably got there soon after that player discovered them and they hadn't gotten wiped yet.

Well it dates discoveries, so you can see when they were made. I've found some from launch day recently and they're still there. It's not super common because, regardless of anything else about the game, the galaxy map is absolutely massive.

The game is kelly bundy. It can only learn so much at one time! Learn one new thing and the old thing gets forced out.

You know, I am starting to think NMS supports multiple dimensions - it's just that Sean simply forgot to tell us (which would explain why we can't see each other). Related to this, wormhole anomalies do in fact allow us to interact via naming of planets.

This non-save issue could also be caused by said wormhole anomalies that were intelligently buried within the code and is yet another stunning example of their procedurally generated universe comprised of over 15 billion planets.

Okay so like, yes even with all its problems I have enjoyed playing No Man's Sky. It does sound like this could be a bug. It had better be as this was one of the core concepts of the game.

But man, the ride for this game just makes me feel like...

"I'll be in Elite: Dangerous while you patch your shit."

I'm crying here at work.

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
But it isn't as proven by those of use who still have them there.
This isn't a lie
This isn't about crashes
This thread was addressing what some people found in their own games that wont applies to everyone.
Gotcha can only talk about the shady stuff Hello Games did in threads specifically about Shady shit they did. It is really confusing with all the shady shit the specifically Sean Murray did.

The only hope is mods on PC. I just hope they can fix crashing on ps4.

Mods on PC will likely be relegated to tweaking existing content-- albeit to awesome effect like Low-Flight, Dark Space, Big Things, etc... I still don't see modders being able to add content like introduce new models, etc.. I think that'll be up to HG to do.

Sorry to hear that you're on PS4 and it's still bugging out. I'm on PS4 as well and 1.05 has sorted all my crashing issues thus far.

If it matters at all, my uploads, at least according to the discovery menu (in the esc menu), are all showing as named, discovered and uploaded by me. Done from the PC launch.

Granted, I haven't found a billion planets and creatures and uploads so it could still "remove" them if I get too much, like it gives you a limited amount of "active discoveries", but they are all there for me and seems fine so looks like a glitch or server issues.

Granted, I've not actually gone back to my first systems and looked at them myself on the ground, but they are showing in my menu.

The same thing happened to me. None of my uploaded discoveries are saved.

I'm actually curious, has anyone seen a user-discovered planet yet?

Amazing. Did you guys also know that the planet names showed in the opening galaxy crawl aren't user-generated, they're from a text file? There's like a couple dozen in there and it randomly picks a few and shows them to you. The GAF data miner discovered this.

Because the amount of threads, time and effort taken to continue to go after this game is like really strange.

Shit, I don't think even Watch Dogs had it's backlash last as long as this, it's been two weeks and people are still making threads about shit is most likely not even the developers fault.

This entire fiasco is fucking strange, but I kinda understand it. It's kinda like that scene in the show Billions, where one character explains that the public loves a coming up story, but will instantly turn on that same person because the public loves a fall from grace story just as much.
Yup pretty much.

"18 Quintillion planets but you'll never experience them all because 17.8 Quintillion planets are locked behind the
infinite number of universes we will take you to at the end of the game"
.

Fucking game is a mess.

Is this true or a joke? I hadn't read about this one.

It's more about how Sean was the central figure of the rags to riches story, then disappointment ensued and communication slowed to a crawl.

I really feel at the end of the day No Man's Sky needs to win Game of the Year. It was a giant bug zapper that has drawn out all the fanboys and space nutters and now they have gotten burned so hard. I love it.

Game of the Year when the votes come up.

For anyone saying stuff like this:

As mentioned elsewhere, the servers were down pretty much the entire first week, perhaps longer.

Chances are nothing you uploaded from then will be present.

People need to read the reddit link.

I've got this as well, I think. The more systems and planets I discover (or animals and plants, not sure what causes this) older animals, plants and checkpoints appear to be overridden or something?
E.G. Yesterday I browsed my list of discoveries, and went all the way to my starting planet. The system and all the planets I've ever been to are clearly marked as being discovered by me, the planets list 100% completion for animal scans but I can't see any animal or plant in the gallery and all of them appear as ???????.
I then checked every planet in the list until I hit one that was starting to be "corrupted". It only had 3 checkpoints (I usually hit up a lot more) and only 3/9 animals discovered (worst case scenario I end up with 2 animals undiscovered). I memorized the planet, and went on playing and discovering new stuff.
The next day, browsed the list again. The planet was wiped clean and so were a couple more. There's definitely something off. And it's not the offline thing.

EDIT: Just to be clear enough, discoveries are being erased in chronological order. First system, second system and so on. It's not random. It's a pattern, starting from your very first discoveries.

He caught a planet in the middle of being erased, took note of it, played some more of the game, checked it again and it was gone by then along with others.

I have never heard the amount of excuse given for anybody here on GAF.
Some from various threads...
You don't know how game development works, things change.
The consumer is entitled to nothing.
Game development is hard and stressful
They are a small independent studio
It is Sony's fault.
Your fault for believing the hype...

Oh don't worry, it's not like this is something that completely doesn't work... I need to follow a path to Atlas marker that has two systems along the way that are discovered by another player...

There are just conditions under which your discoveries may not make it to the server... and your own client save on your PC/Console can likely only hold so many discovery items (let's say 40) before it needs to throw away older discoveries (first in first out). So if you return to a previous planet, it will be "undescovered" if your discoveries didn't make it to the server and they were kicked out of your own save data.

Server issues. Just like with the MP.

Dont forget the first few days when it was 'server issues' ......or lack of ps plus ....or was it strict nat setting??.....preventing people from seeing eachother in nms.

Dunno what's worst: The blatant lies and misinformation to sell a full price product or people giving the guy a free pass because he is a nervous indie laughing fellow.

That said, i'm still playing the game, even though the two reasons that i wanted to play it are now gone:

- No chance of finding other players
- End game being some marvelous mysterious shit.

Wow...

All 26 hours. Multiple times.
a player going back to his starting planet - that has blown my mind.
We wanted it to happen - but within the first two weeks?

I can confirm, I just tested this. Eventually stuff gets "overwritten".

Highly doubt it's a bug. At the end of the day, server space isn't unlimited. Which is why older stuff gets dumped.

Maybe this is one of those little Easter Eggs to make the moment more special. The game is only fun for the first few hours, so now you can go back and experience your first planets like new!

Any chance I can get details of the test for the OP?

I'm voting it for game of the year and disappointment of the year even by not touching it lol

I'm honestly surprised that everyone thought this game looked amazing.

I think people were moreso attracted to their own imagination. "Anything can be out there! Outer space is endless!" I don't think they expected cut and paste assets or glorified menu travel.
