ESports: Good Game agency closes, Alliance disbanded, DOTA2 teams gone, Evil Geniuses

I have always saw EG as the Yankees of esports, pretty crazy to see it end.

If this is indeed the end, we dont have confirmation quite yet.

We don't have confirmation, but I do think we have enough indications to say that it's probably what's happening. It's weird, because Evil Geniuses is probably the biggest e-sports team in the West, Amazon could probably have made a pretty penny if they sold them off instead of what they appear to have done (liquidated them).

Guy they would spend more trying to sell them off and everything that comes with that than just killing them off. A pretty penny? I really doubt it, not for Amazon anyways.

How will KBrad eat now
he'll join Team LTG

or Wiz will put him on the EVO committee

If EG does end up going down I will be very sad. Someone mentioned them as "the yankees of esports" and I totally agree. They have/have had teams in a lot of games across many platforms. They've put a lot of time into helping grow esports.

Hey. I clicked on the link and I think I understand what's going on here, but can someone give some context? Wikipedia has a page for Evil Geniuses but not Good Game Agency, other than saying it's owned by Amazon. How big are they (how many professional teams are there, anyway? 5? 20? 100?), which games do they do, how many players do they sponsor, what does a team actually do, financially and administratively... will this impact any competitive players, etc.

I'm interested in eSports stuff but I don't really know much about it so feel free to treat me like an idiot.

Isn't it possible that after all this exciting Drama, Amazon is just removing GGA so Amazon has direct control over alliance and EG? Removing the middle man in a way?

I don't see amazon ditching the EG brand at all, it's pretty damn big at this stage.

EG and Alliance are subsidiaries of GGA (which is owned by amazon now). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_Geniuses

That's the page stump mentioned in his post. I admit I'm stumped (sorry) as well, so some context would really be appreciated.

GGA seems to be a talent agency that was originally created by Alex Garfield. It owned EG and Alliance as Garfield was the original founder. Outside of that connection, GGA does not seem to have any involvement in the team management/competitve side of esports. Twitch blog post puts gga as
