Next years COD can't possibly be another Futuristic shooter, Right...

Today Infinite Warfare Multiplayer Trailer was shown and ... First of all Infinite Warfare seems to have a good campaign and the most fun version of Zombies ever.
But the Multiplayer... It looks like Black Ops 3 from last year and Last years COD looked like the year before that with SledgeHammers Advanced Warfare.

"Futuristic Fatigue is real"

Infinite Warfare could be easily mistaken for Black Ops 3 or even as just DLC for that game. 3 Call of Duty's in 3 years that are very similar .

When we heard that each COD Dev was going to get two years each to make a game, I was happy. The bad thing is that they each followed the same direction.

Maybe it's Activision who told them what to do, because they thought futuristic games with maneuverability were going to become the next big thing.

Stop and take a break, please.

Problem is that next years COD is going to be from SledgeHammer and Advanced Warfare 2 seems like it's going to happen

They are trying really hard to market this as old school, which is hilarious. I have to think this came out of the backlash of another sci fi game.

Im holding out hope they pull some shit with Infinite Warfare with some sort of flashback mission set in a modern or even older setting that ties into the story.

Hopefully Advanced 2 is a prequel.

Black Ops 4 needs to be what Black Ops 3 was supposed to be.

We've done the past with World War 2
We've done the present with Modern Warfare
We've done the future with Advance and Infinite Warfare

What's left?

People often say that COD is the same each year and I would disagree as they are different however Ghosts is what sank the ship, but the last three games.

Maybe it's just hard to differentiate a futuristic setting from another because they look the same. Infinite Warfare even looks like Killzone shadow fall

It will be Advanced Warfare 2 100%.

Exactly. I rather enjoyed AW 1 so I'm looking forward to it.

Personally I'd take future over modern day at this point. BF1 is interesting, but I doubt its going to be a trend setter in terms of setting.

Next year will definitely be Advanced Warfare 2. I actually really liked Advanced Warfare so I'm okay with that. But when Treyarch's turn comes up again they really need to go back to the early-mid 1900s style World War game. Battlefield 1 has been a blast so far and I can only imagine how good an old school COD would be now.

I am SO happy to see this.

We might finally push COD out of the same stale shit it's been for years and years.

because of a like to dislike ratio? Not going to happen. It's barely going to be a blip. It's people disliking for the sake of it.

When this game goes on to sell millions that shit isn't going to matter.

The only way it won't be futuristic is if Sledgehammer decided from the start that AW would be a one-off entry. But the were also the first of the three studios to really take the futuristic approach, so they may not be interested in dropping it just yet. Another thing to remember is that there wasn't any backlash when AW was released or really even BO3 was released. It really only started with IW, which means that whatever Sledgehammer is working on would've already been in development for well over a year. There's no way they'd scrap that and try to make a new game in that period of time. So realistically Treyarch's next game is the one with the best shot of not being futuristic.

I'm completely ok with the idea of Advanced Warfare 2. I liked the original, and it played different enough from Black Ops 3 so it didn't feel the same.

I find it strange that even tho they have 3 developers cycle they never thought that maybe at least one should always differentiate himself from the other 2. COD name is enough to sell the game so why not try something like ww1? ww2? IW looks like a copy from BO3 in a stupid way.

They are kind of half assing these future games.

Quit the grounded near future stuff and go full sci fi. Aliens and ray guns and stuff.

And the people disliking it. I wouldn't be shocked if they pick up the game as well. It just appeals to a large userbase and people eventually will pick it up. COD has become like Madden, NBA and Fifa in which people turn out to buy the game in droves and it makes money.

They have no choice. A futuristic setting gives the so much freedom in designing a varied game. If they went back to a slower, realistic pace, with matching weapons, perks and killstreaks people would burn out on the game really quick.

Yup. While I can't fucking WAIT for MWR as it's my favorite MP game along with Halo 3. I do wonder how a game like that will last in today's market.

Fatigue isn't real to Activision until there is a noticeable drop in sales.

Sorry. Gaf opinion != popular opinion

I personally can't wait for Medieval Warfare so I can customize my longbow with a red dot sight and a doritos camo.

This meme needs to die. We haven't "done" anything. All of those scenarios(and the past doesn't just consist of WW2) have a lot of unexplored stuff in them. The only problem is that everybody jumped at it the same time. If next year we'd have a WW2 CoD, BF2143 and a new MW or Vietnam shooter by some other Dev nobody would talk about "fatigue". If everything has the same scenario at the same time then there's fatigue. But nobody is forcing them to choose the same scenarios at the same time.

Well they can:

A) Continue with the futuristic setting. With Battlefield going back to WW1 this will differenciate the franchises more than ever

B) Go back to WW1 or 2 and kick off a new era of past based shooters (alongside Battlefield) until everyone is sick of them again and they can start the cycle again (going modern day, then future, then past again).

C) Going in an absolutely different direction. No past, present or future but some paralel reality sutff. Something Steam Punk like or just full on Sci Fi with alien races or demons or something
