Looks like he might be a pretty nice dude. As long as he doesn't mind a few odd glances he should be absolutely fine.
I've been seeing this passed around my NYC friends on social media, usually accompanied by shade about his poor subway etiquette/manspreading.
I feel bad for the dude. It's almost definitely not a good situation, probably homeless or close to it. It reminds me of one person I'd see a lot on the N/Q who was behind a huge pile of garbage bags. Literally, an end of one subway car was just filled with garbage bags, and you'd occasionally see a brief glimpse of the person under there.

Duder probably has a long way to go and this is just how he makes the time go by faster I imagine.

yes. by looking at the size of the backpack, powering a xbox/TV he will probably get 4 hours of playtime before needing recharging.

Shinkansen - bullet train - actually. The amount of leg room you get on those trains is insane, I would totally be tempted to do this myself.
