Persona 5 Famitsu Review Score: 39/40 (10/10/10/9)

Persona 4 Golden scored 35/40.

AFAIK this is the highest rated Persona game from Famitsu yet.

Now it's P5.

Do you even math, son?

andriasang says Persona 4 The Golden (Vita): 9, 9, 9, 8

That's 35 in my book.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I think one reviewer said the game took him 80 hours to clear and there's a looooot of side content.

They said persona 4, not persona 4 golden. Did the ps2 game get 35 as well?

Edit:wiki says it did.

He also asked about rereleases.

What did both P3 and 4 get at release and for their rereleases? Not that the opinion of the magazine then is all that relevant to its opinion now (oh god, it's been so long) but I'm curious all the same.

I don't know any other turn-based rpg that came out recently so i would say they're really dead, even if P5 is amazing.
There is some from top of my head...

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered (well it is a remaster)
Am I Setsuna
World of Final Fantasy

I think there are others I'm missing.

In terms of Western critical reception, this game is going to be up there with the best of this gen, sitting beside Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Super Mario 3D World, The Witcher 3, and MGSV. That's not because of the Famitsu score, I just have a feeling.

very disappointed at the famitsu review score so I went to amazon Japan and canceled my 20th anniversary edition preorder.

I had 2 preorders and was going to cancel one anyway. :p

I figured, but nice to know -- was a little worried w/ all the higher quality assets they might skimp on game length/depth.

I'm kinda glad it's a 39/40 and not a 40/40, due to Famitsu's reputation for taking money for good/perfect reviews.

Right, but now that people know this, you actually have to pay EXTRA to get a 39/40 instead of a 40/40. It's subject to the assumed-credibility tax.

It doesn't hurt that the people who will be reviewing P5 already love persona. There's atleast one hardcore persona lover in most big gaming outlets. I can see this getting 7.5 from Polygon because of its lack of diversity though.

My playtime with P4 was always well north of the numbers commonly thrown around, I think it was well above 100 hrs. I don't know if this was due to Golden's additions, sidequests, or me just being slow. I imagine P5 will be a similar case but really, 80 hours of the quality we have seen so far is worth the entry fee several times over.

Have they ever shown what the daily school life grind looks like in the game? You know, what you will be doing for 50 of those 80 hours?

But Polygon gave Persona 4 Golden a perfect 10.

A lot of (Japanese) Persona 4 fans I heard from like to attribute its relatively modest official review scores to the game itself portraying the Japanese mass media as basically pure evil lol.

Sounds a little too long honestly. Like, a single player game should not be 80h long. It took me 55-60h for Xenoblade, 65h for P5, 80h for P3 but please no longer than that. If anything, ~50h tends to be a really good length.

It's the same number P3 or P4 got, so it's probably the same.
Overall it's really hard to estimate the playtime for each and every person. E.g. I never ever skipped voiced dialogue in P4G even though I read way faster, so that probably added 15 hrs compared to somebody who would forward the text as soon as they read it.
