Xbox One Summer Update Preview (Cortana, new Game Library, Win10 app, more)

Seems like they stealthily re-enabled Cortana in French. They should really send notifications when such an update occurs, it would prevent me from wondering why voice commands seem to be broken all of a sudden.

My Kinect stopped working. Ive un plugged it and even restarted the system. I feel like this has happened in the past and then suddenly started working again. Has anyone els had this happen? Even the light wont come on the Kinect.

That change is mentioned in the preview app.

I had this issue, The only fix for me was to return it to MS for a replacement. Luckily it was still under warranty.

Are they going to stop demos appearing in our achievements along with 0 Gamerscore games we deleted on 360 that suddenly reappeared? I want that more than leaderboards.

Its telling me that it had basically a 1 year warranty, and that it expired in Nov 2014. I went through the online process of setting up a warranty and its telling me its going to cost $70. Thats such bull shit. I don't think i'm going to do it honestly even though i do use the Kinect for voice commands. I cant justify that much money on something even they have stopped using.

The current build of Cortana in French seems to be a big step back from what we had during the preview, I'm having many old bugs that seemed to have been fixed earlier : multiple identical choices when launching a game, same command being recognized but sometimes gives an internet search and sometimes is recognized as a system command...

I honestly don't understand how Cortana's behaviour can't be deterministic. If she recognized the phrase "mute" or "turn off Xbox", she should always do the same task based on it.

Are you in the preview program? If so its still under warranty if you suspect the update broke it.

I wouldn't doubt that the preview program broke it. My launch Xbox One's disc drive wouldn't open while using the preview program. It was a common issue actually, so they fixed it and gave me Ryse. Maybe i should just call them. Im still really pissed off though. I went through 10 360's with broken disc drives, red rings, and graphics card failures. Its not like my stuff is packed away in a small spot or anything that it cant cool off. Hell the Kinect barley does anything. It just sits there and occasionally gets talked too.

Yes. For me, Cortana in french was a great experience the first day of preview. Since then, I had really poor experience with different results for the same command. It was really weird.

By the way Alx, thank you for the tip of Cortana reactivated in french, I didn't understand why my console didn't recognize anything when I shout "Xbox".

So I'm not in the preview and ever since that last update, my Kinect is on the frits. Hardly ever hears me anymore the first time, I gotta repeat myself 20 times for simple Xbox pause commands. Gee thanks for the update

I hear you, but today i saw that a show was trending on the top of the main menu, and then when i went to go pick it to change the channel, nothing happened. Because the IR sensor is gone. Its things like this that i take for granted and completely forgot that the Kinect was doing that this whole time.

I see that the new S has the IR built in. Im maybe in the minority that actually really likes its HDMI in and its IR channel changing. I hope they keep with this going forward with scorpio.

They should add a faster way to restart when you have instant on, I think it's like 8 button presses now, should have it maybe come up when you hold down the guide/power button on the controller as one of the options. If they don't want to clutter up that screen they can have it where once you pick the shutdown or turn off controller options hold an extra button to change that option to restart.

Double tap guide hit RT and hit restart.

But, this last update feels more snappy. Especially Cortana.

UWP on xbone supports the file picker, so I would guess any usb device that hasn't been formatted for installing apps.

All of them support onedrive as well.

I'm in Malaysia for 3 weeks and I'm really kicking myself that I didn't bring my Xbox. I was 10kg under my baggage allowance damnit. Hotel has great internet speeds as well.

There's been emulators on WP and W8-W10 for a long time now, I don't think that'll change!

Can someone explain how these emulators work? You need a PC, right (not just run-able on the Xbox One directly?).

Would I theoretically be able to set up Parallels on my Mac w/ Windows to reap the benefits of NES/Super NES/Nintendo 64/Genesis etc. games on my Xbox? With my Xbox controller?

Also, I feel like Canada has been getting the shaft on the app front. Feels like there hasn't been a new one of note since Plex?

Provided any make it to the store you don't need a pc. What makes you think you do?

Fwiw the UK is also shafted apps wise. We don't even have Readit, let alone the rest of the the US is showing.

I have Google Play Music, is there any way for me to use the background audio with it, that would reliably work? I mostly do streaming very rarely download music with it.

The music in Madden '17 is just so bad I've been pushed over the edge
