List: Already released PS4 titles that will get a PS4 Pro mode/update

Don't count on it. Sony confirmed that framerate has to be the same on PS4 and Pro. Bloodborne is always online (by design, only offline if you opt out). Upscaling? Sure. 60fps? No.

Couldn't they just make it so if you enable Pro mode it puts you into offline only? Not everyone wants to play those games always online, that's why there's the option.

I'm confused since Sony said they can choose to do 4K pro mode or 1080. Are they not required to do both? Like do they not have to support two Pro modes, being one which is high fidelity 1080p and one that's 4K? It doesn't really sound like they're required to support both ideas and could just do a 4K mode or a 1080p+ mode and that would count as having a Pro mode?

Minor suggestion...can you include references when things get added to list? I know the top ones were all revealed during conference and ESO had a youtube trailer, but didn't know where to look for the F1 info. Sources would be cool if you have time :)

Thanks for making the list though!

Devs are free to choose. Or do both. If somebody feels it's too much expense, they can just build the 4K mode and then downscale for 1080p users. So no perf benefit but you still get an improved image. Hell, if you're an indie you could make a game with a true 4K renderer for Pro users.

I hope devs keep doing 1080p pro mode for the possible perf boost of course, but we have to wait and see...

This is very misleading, while all games must have a Pro mode there's no enforcement on Sony's part to make the Pro mode better, so for all you know the Pro mode can very well be a carbon copy of the PS4 mode.

Understand this or there will be another drama like native 4k vs upscaled 4k.

Yea, this is true. With the exception that 1080p is a minimum afaik, so 900p PS4 games have to run at 1080p on Neo.
And even if they do not put any effort in it, games that run at an unstable framerate should run better on Neo.

What exactly is "Pro mode" again?
Sorry, I've been out of the loop.

Anything that utilizes the extra power of the PS4P, it can be used however the dev wants. So any single or combination of, higher framerate, higher resolution, better graphics effects and hdr.

Do you think it might be worth saying what the upgrades do?

(better textures, higher frame rates, true 4K, fancy-upscale to 4K etc)

It depends on the developer. They can have one size fits all NEO mode, they can have 2, 3,4,5,6 it doesn't matter generally speaking, and all of them can do different things to take advantage of the power increase.

Also, its not an upscale, the frame takes two images and blends them together for additional information, an upscale is taking a single image and blowing it up.

I hope devs pay attention to the fact that 95% of the market or more still aren't using 4K TVs. I want devs like Square to make FFXV 1080p amazing on Pro.

High fidelity 1080p will require developer to put more work and resource adding effects or better asset etc. There's no way Sony can enforce that to all developers. Simply having higher resolution and then upscale or downscale to 4k or 1080p seems like the most dev friendly way.

Asked in the other thread too-

Any chance that even if a developer DOES NOT patch anything on an old game, it will perform better simply because of the better GPU and overclocked CPU (basically, more consistently hitting its performance targets)? Fallout 4 looking at you....

I think Cerny said as much that if there's no patch, the game will still continue to work as it does on a normal PS4. The only extra advantage might be that the pro will upscale the image to 4k (?)

We don't know about CPU wise. GPU wise, apparently all games will be upgraded to 1080p that were previously 900p, even unpatched. That is what the FAQ says.

Even if they only make a single NEO mode that utilizes the hardware based checkerboard rendering for higher resolution, even if they scale that down to 1080p output on normal 1080p TV's, its going to look significantly better than 1080p, or the 900p/1080p with bad AA of the FF15 PS4 and XB1(900p to 720p) versions.

And will still have some GPU left over to enhance graphics and assets.

I guess my hope is that even without any patched changes at all, games that struggle to hit a consistent 30fps (or whatever) will now manage to simply because the GPU won't be huffing and puffing as much to keep up.

But, I know nothing about how any of that works, so maybe I'm dreaming.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne are the ones I really hope for some update.

If Bloodborne gets a patch I will rebuy it on PSN. I recently switched to all digital and traded in all my physical games including Bloodborne. Platinumed the game but considering it's one of my favorite games of all time I think I get afford the $20.

So, has anyone actually said what the "pro" stands for? I'm assuming it means progression rather than professional.

SFV and Bloodborne are necessities ...

Other than frame pacing, it wouldn't be getting a 60fps patch. FROM has also not been one to add in better textures either, so I don't know what a patch would do for that game.

Nice little list so far. Remember peeps, just because some games aren't listed, it doesn't mean they will not get a Neo patch so don't rule out the possibility yet! I would love to see R&C get a Neo patch

Thanks for making a better thread than the one before.

I don't know how Bloodborne will be updated if online FPS must match the PS4. Unless you're just hoping for framerate pacing fix & better graphics.

Thanks Raylan.

A proper topic like this with appropriate info and updates was definitely needed after that other disastrous one that was resulting in people thinking that regular ps4 games won't work on the Pro without a patch at all, and others thinking that Pro mode requirements for future games isn't a thing anymore.

I find the whole "must have the same fps on both consoles for multiplayer" a bit of a bullshit statement, used soley to appease those who aren't getting a Pro. The "fairness" concept is blown out of the window when you consider crossplay.
What's next, saying that you can't play fighting games with anything other than a DS4 for "fairness"?

I think OP should add titles from this picture from PS Asia conference.

Oh wow, Nioh already has 3 different graphics options on OG PS4.
It will be glorious on the Pro! :)

Yeah.

I think what it's going to turn out to be is, that we won't get a game that targets 30fps on the ps4, running at or targeting 60fps on the Pro. But if a game is targeting 60fps on the PS4 and has drops, the Pro can end up having a 60fps version without any drops.

Because of the CPU, these games would most likely not be hitting past the same target framerate anyway. If a game is targeting 60fps on PS4, its not gonna go past that on NEO, just stick to that more closely. Likewise for 30fps targeted multi games on PS4

NBA 2K17?!?! God dammit, I'm supposed to wait until next year...

I would guess that any existing title that's still getting active updates (be it DLC or any sort of "service" game like MMOs) will get a Pro build, and may in fact be required to do so. If the dev has already stopped any form of development on it, it probably won't.

I expect we are going to see SFV Pro Mode when they will announce season 2 after CPT

Ratchet & Clank? Gourgeous game must become gorgeouser!

Naughty Dog is totally going to try and give us 60fps Uncharted 4 just for the heck of it

Should have clarified. I was thinking it would be a good idea to list what option/upgrades each game would have, as it does vary from game to game.

I know it's not a simple upscale, it's why I used the word fancy ;)

The inclusion of Shadow of Mordor is so odd to me if it isn't a case of raising hype/market awareness for the presumed sequel set for next year. Here's hoping MKX or even Arkham Knight gets Pro support at some point.

Or maybe they are working on Shadow of Mordor 2 and since they are required to support PS4 Pro they decided to test how much they can push the engine with the first game?

Oh man, that'd be glorious. The game already looks terrific on the PS4 as it is. I haven't actually played much of it yet, but it'd be cool if a patch came out before I got around to it. Sony seems to have a good relationship with WB, and Rocksteady is making that Arkham VR game after all. Maybe once that's done they can work on a patch.

When is the cutoff for requiring a pro mode?

Nba 2k16 releases sep 16. I'm assuming it's a no on that one?

NBA 2K17 appears on that image from PlaystationAsia, so it's safe to assume it's going to be supported. As a matter of fact, I would guess the huge majority of games releasing the rest of the year will be patched, especially AAA blockbuster games like the 2K franchise.
