Popular FGC streamer MAXIMILIAN accidentally says n*gger on stream; asses are shown

Seems like he fucked up and apologized for it. The look on his face after he said it looks like he realized he fucked up. Ryan Davis did something similar that was bad, but he apologized and moved past it as well. Not saying anyone should just brush it off or forgive it easily.

You know what's funny. Max is going to come out smelling like roses because people know he wasn't being malicious, just ignorant. The folks who tripped over themselves to defend him by underplaying fucking slavery and the n-word...Your sacrifice was truly and utterly meaningless.

Lol this thread! That graveyard is just amazing. I predicted 90% of the posts here before I clicked on this!

See y'all on the next social progressive thread! (Hopefully not *all* of y'all)

My faith in humanity cannot run out fast enough. Sigh.

I'll be that guy and point out that the video's description has the word "retard" in it. May not be the most suitable response for this thread.
Also this.

Just for those people who are saying he needs to address it, here are a few of his tweets.

"Last night I combined the word Ginger and Ninja in a furious rhyming of words to horrible resorts. Literally shocked me after I said it."

"Had to review the footage of the stream this morning and yep, totally said it. Need forgiveness from the NinjaSquad @INFINITE_SGE @unrooolie"

"After watching the video, I'm still disappointing. Was a slip but was still the first time I've ever said the word."

"Coming clean. Today I promise to never again do rapid name rhyming ever again. My NinjaSquad membership, revoked..."

"@lKzeroll @GeoffTheHero It was, but just the shock/feeling of being accused of being a racist hurts. Feelsbadman."

Max doesn't even sound genuine.... and yeah... seeing him clearly read the chat while people are saying what he said... he didn't even acknowledge it. Like, whaaaattt? And I'm a fan of his but I don't like he's handling this at all. I also don't like how he has a defense force that's damage controlling for Max like crazy.

It did look sort of like a slip of the tongue maybe. Who knows. He said the word. I'm just glad he acknowledged it and apologized, and that it seems like a sincere apology and not simply one to placate his followers. He doesn't seem like a bad dude, or even one of those guys who say nigger in private, so hopefully it doesn't happen again!

And that first page...lol

Hey guys. I'd like to post this clip for clarity, as my conscience won't let me do otherwise.

https://twitter.com/maximilian_/status/776878558597697536

After tongue twisting words multiple times throughout the stream, I said something I literally didn't believe I said until after I reviewed the footage in the morning. I was woken this morning to several people telling me that Neogaf and Reddit are blasting what I said and it's blowing up.

It was absolutely not my intention to use this word. It's disgusting, filthy and I've never intentionally used it ever in my life. Deeply sorry to anyone who thinks ill of me after this, as I've wanted nothing but to create an environment on Youtube and Twitch of kind-hearted people who I try to give back too just as much as they've given to me. The accusations coming my direction is something I've never had to deal with before, and it honestly one of the worst feelings I can remember. Especially when everything about my life, family and friends is the exact opposite of what the word represents.

I'll let the mods decide what to do with this thread. I can't ignore what I accidentally said, but I'd prefer not to be reminded of it every-time I visit the forum I've been a part of for almost a decade.

Even though I knew it was a slip of the tongue, I still very much appreciate you taking the time to respond directly to clarify and apologize, even if the latter might not be necessary for some. Thank you.

Everybody learned a lesson in racial interactions today, didnt we lads?
That'll be the day. lol

For those who are saying that this isn't thread worthy, it's the complete opposite. I think this is a situation that EVERYONE should to handle a situation like his.

He explained what happened (showed the clip as to when, bonus points)
He apologized
Most importantly, he didn't make excuses. He didn't try to provide a reason on why this shouldn't matter or why he should be able to say it. He didn't try to sweep it under the rug and hope it would go away.
He confronted it and said I made a mistake.

We are all human so if you slip up, just own up to it.

This is how you handle a situation like this.

Now everyone can move forward as better people.

He sounds incredibly genuine, especially in this very thread where he commented on the subject:

Nobody "accidentally" says that word.

the video sounds like he combined two words, and he said that himself did just that. He's probably super excited and slipped, like many news anchors do in the past, for years.

disclaimer: I don't watch his videos, or really am a fan of the guy. I don't dislike him, but just never really got into his stuff. His reasoning is perfectly sound and this looks like a complete accident...

I hope he realises the mistake he made and that makes a genuine apology and that he really learns from this situation.
Also really shaking my head at some of the replies on the first page.

jacobeid

Banned
Woah. I can't believe that first page. Shocking coming from Neogaf.

Got a long way to go.

At least those people got banned...and it's not that shocking. Wollan called people autistic as an insult the other week and not a fucking thing happened then.

I'm going to continue to call him out in public every time I can for that. Not ok.

Fantastapotamus

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
No seriously, what the fuck happened here? Did a bunch of users just wait for the right moment to commit mass account suicide? Holy shit that first page. Hope you like the hill you choose to die on.

I can't believe we got to a point were saying the n word is considered "free speach" or "not worth getting upset at" for some people.

Edit: I feel like this was really just an accident. Don't know the dude though, if he has a history with such accidents it might be an entirely different story.

I'm still completely in shock at the first few pages. Like I knew coming in to it initially there would be people doing something sketchy. . But not like that. Not like that.

Should have known this guy was just another one of those FGC thugs

I'm not talking about Max. I'm talking about the people immediately crawling out of the woodwork to explain why saying the n-word isn't a big deal.

That's the kind of culture that's not hard to find in the FGC and a big part of why I stay the hell away from there. It's not just the FGC either for what it's worth in case you think I'm trying to pin it solely on them, but it's a real problem.

Quoting again so it's not lost or buried. Max's response in this very thread from the last page.

That first page for the thread is something, Max's post here seems pretty reasonable.

RIP Capcom Illuminati status though.

That first page reminded me of my Facebook timeline these days, yuck.

I would go as far as to stay it's a part of the competitive gaming scene as a whole, but that's just my opinion

That's what I'm thinking too....

but that's the thing. i don't think he accidentally said the word
he accidentally made the phonetic sounds that make up the word because he rhymed a bunch of stuff in quick succession and tripped over his words

there's a big difference there

From what I've seen of max, don't think he's the type to use such words and don't believe the narrative that he's a closest racist. Could have handled the slip up better but the backlash is completely uncalled for.

The response to this is more telling than the actual incident.

Please don't apologize casual racism as some sort political correctness issue.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
I'm honestly stunned at how many GAFers (who are now banned) don't have an issue with this. You don't just say this word on accident unless you are a racist prick. Language like this shouldn't be tolerated anywhere, especially on GAF.
You believe Max is a racist prick? Given the evidence I really doubt that's the case.

I dont think ya had any I'll intent. Watch ya mouth, you apologized thats good. You'll get some side eye you will be fine acknowledging you fucked up is already a good sign.

No one thinks you are keemstar or some shit, just watch ya mouth. I'm not gonna pretend its ok either.

That's got nothing to do with it being exclusively an FGC problem considering those types of people already infest video games and other cultures as a whole.

I agree that he should have addressed it, but hindsight is 20/20. I'm trying to think of it from his perspective in that moment. You just accidentally said the N word, live, twitch chat is calling it out...I mean you've got to be MORTIFIED. Like a deer in headlights. I'm guessing Max just wanted do try and move on as if it never happened, hoping it went away. Not the best route, but I imagine it's tough to think straight in a situation like that and you're just going by your gut, right or wrong.

It's good to see he's addressing it at least. He just posted on the last page as well.

I agree though that the people coming out to do damage control and brush off the word was crazy. Really sad stuff.

I already said that. Not sure what you're trying to get at.

There are aspects of the FGC and competitive gaming in general which amplify problems common across the whole game community, or other such communities in general. Nowhere have I said this is entirely an FGC problem, but they have some issues that make it easy for certain things to be drawn out. Is all.

One of the worst things about people you idolize or even just spend a significant time watching is that you'll never really know what kind of person they are. I don't think Max is secretly a closet racist because I don't watch him that much but at the end of day I don't think he is. That doesn't make what he said ok, far from it. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

benevolent sexism
The effects of an action matter more than the intent of an action.

When the action is spoken language, the listener uses inferred intent to parse and extract the meaning of that language. The perceived meaning in turn determines the effect of that language. So a person hearing a word uttered by accident shouldn't take it the same way as that word uttered on purpose, with malice. A person still has the right to have a negative reaction to the word, but intent absolutely matters and should moderate their response.

When someone bumps into you by accident, you don't respond to them in the same way as you would if they did it on purpose, right?

He obviously messed up but you can't even turn on the radio or even the TV without hearing that word every 10 minutes.
