On Final Fantasy XV and female characters

She wanted to give a cool and serious vibe yet...lol.

I actually like her, but I feel that her victory pose was out of character (similar to Lightning using skimpy outfits on LR).

I don't think it was that out of character. Remember that cool scene where you can tell Lulu you have feelings for her? She teases you by saying alotta men are interested and that you will have to impress her. I think that's what she says... I think Lulu has a playful side.

Talk about an overly sexualized character. I'll be in my bunk.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Cindy's outfit honestly. I think sexy outfits are cool. But I do think that male gaze direction when it comes to cutscenes and character introductions is pretty juvenile and embarrassing. Kojima has a huge problem with this in Metal Gear too. You can have a sexy outfit for a character. You can come up with a dozen "story" reasons to justify why a character might wear an outfit like that. But when the camera goes out of its way to mimic voyeuristic viewpoints and emphasizes the sexiness of a character for the sole purpose of titillation, that's no excuse for that other than the people making the product being perverted and naughty. And you know, that's okay too, if you want to be honest about it. But if you don't, and want to pretend to have some respectable reason to do it, then something something ashamed of words and deeds something.

YES.

She teases Tidus if you say you prefer girls like her when visiting Seymour like she's going to be the dom of the century and accidentally kill him by snu-snu. i would definitely not call that out of character at all.

Yeah, teenage me will never forget this FFX cutscene. So I guess it works :(

Now, older me however, found this FE: Conquest cutscene kinda juvenile and embarrassing as you said. Like I would be ashamed if someone saw me playing this.

I guess you're both right, she does have a playful side.

It's just that, she barely shows it throughout the game, sans when she wins battles I guess lol

What do you guys think about Lulu from FFX? I think she's awesome.

Her outfit certainly isn't very practical and kind of seems out of place compared to the other Besaid villagers, like they took a random gothic witch and dropped her in a sunny seaside village lol, but I get that it's a twist on the classic black mage costume.

That being said, I really liked her backstory and began to sympathize with her as I learned more about her. I like how she seems cold and harsh at first, but as you progress through the story you start to realize that she's been through some painful stuff, like most people in Spira. She's lost a lot and has become a bit of a hard-shelled person as a result, but there's still a kind, loving person underneath.

The main cast (NONE of the bad guys) are my favorite aspect of FFX.

I meant to say it's the only thing I really like about FFX. Everything else has problems but I'll save that for the LTTP....

-_-

lol yes, that we do not agree on. Won't say it's a perfect game, but I'll leave it alone for now as well. xD

Looking forward to seeing you guys defend the terrible and repetitive boss design in FFX. There's one or two particular sections where I'm REALLY gonna tear things up. :D

Terrible and repetitive? Ok. I'm looking forward to your comparisons with other games in the franchise and other games in the genre(including Persona) as well in regards to that.

I'd like to see this thread too when it's done. If it's what I think it is, then I'll have many reasons to agree.

To Hell with it. I'll take something from my LTTP and put it here. Remember a certain part in FFX where you beat a very tough boss then a cutscene appears of you boarding a platform (to stop a certain things from happening) where you fight a string of very tough bad guys and if you die just ONCE... you have to start wayyy back from the very tough boss fight? There's no damn save point. Yeah, such great design.

I hope its not going to be another 'FFX is so linear, people who like FFX but don't like FF13 are hypocrites"

That's just annoying to hear at this point, i actually made an entire thread on that myself.

Umm...a string of very tough bosses after a tough boss..can't recall, which part was that? That seems more like a saving gripe though than an actual game design flaw.

Oh yeah now I remember that part. Yeah I had that issue too. It ended up being one of those, quit for a week, come back and do it on the first run sort of things.

Oh, you mean fighting
the guardian of bevelle, and then boarding the platform to get to yuna.

But that doesn't make much sense to complain about. You only fight one boss, and the rest of the battles after that are not tough, they are normal enemies you just run through. If you were stocked properly, it should not be an issue to get past them. I can't say i ever had an issue with that particular sequence in the least.

They weren't normal enemies. They were hard as hell. And if you died just ONCE... you had to start the whole damn thing over. Yay!!! So awesome!!! Kawaii!!! Boy, did I RAGE.

I can't say i agree on that part... now what happens directly AFTER THAT, with the cloister of trials, can go fuck itself. If there's anything i hated about FFX it was the shit stain that was Blitzball and the cloister of trials. Seriously, just let me progress, don't force me to endure through story mandatory unfun minigames that just go on and on

I never died on FFX, so I didn't know that.

But it does sound bad.

Unskippable cutscenes are a crime too.

But I would argue that those QoL issues are not enough to hold the game back, given that there is a way to avoid such issues (
git gud
and enjoy the cutscenes).

But FFX is way more than that, it's a beautiful game, and its game design might not be something to brag about, but it's definitely good enough to for it to allow the player to enjoy the story, the world of Spira, and its characters.

Funnily enough... the topic is STILL Final Fantasy and it's not like we're doing what Kagari said she didn't like about what happens to FFXV threads. What were her words again? Nonsensical nonsense or something like that?

But I'll shut up. I'll keep working on my LTTP for FFX. I'm using it as OT practice too.

So... To be continued.

Lol, it's just desserts for Cidney talk derailing literally every XV thread EVER.

Actually, I think this has been a useful thread overall. Clearly a lot people have a lot to say on the matter.

Also, irritations or not, X is a great experience.

Yep, most def, completely embarrassing and unrealistic camera work, just like Cindy. She's supposed to be falling down in that scene, yet it takes her like 5 seconds. And very strange CGI to add two giant water balloons under her shirt where we usually don't see anything like that.

While i do expect Tifa to resemble her basic design(huge bust, curves, same outfit ect), i can be fairly confident in saying we' wont be saying any of those kinds of cut-scenes in the remake. I also think they will either remove the 'slap fight' entirely or just have Tifa crush her immediately.

I just hope we can choose her AC outfit as a bonus unlockable. Seriously, seeing that shit in real time on my TV would make me so happy..

I would love to see Tifa kick her ass right off that cannon.

And yep, I loved Tifa's AC outfit.

I think TIfa generally straddles the line between almost potentially falling into the trap of what Cindy is, while being a great character on her own(she's my #1)

She could have EASILY become Cindy, had she not been designed with her own agency and goals. Hell, she has gotten tons of hate anyway just for her design alone(which i never agreed with as a general opponent of slut-shaming especially if the character herself is strong enough mentally)

In the original game her character is a flawed one, where she uses her fists and generally speaking has little to fear from being kidnapped or anything like that, and fights against the world government for 5 years before the game even starts, but is so mentally indecisive about how she should do things, what decisions she should make, et al, that it comes off almost emotionally weak of her, until we find out late game that it was apart of her character arc by the end to grow from.

Its very admirable.

Granted, she's one of the two heroines along with the hero, so there is also a decent amount of time focused on her character being intertwined with Cloud's own, and since they both share the same home town and past memories, but does that mean she is defined by her love for Cloud, or not?

I don't personally think so, but
i'd still like some other opinions on it from people here, preferably girls, to see what they think.

Please no ship wars.

It was pandering back then too.

And at the most inopportune moment to boot: right in the middle of a super serious scene that included

Cloud betraying the group, Sephiroth awakening the WEAPONS, and Tifa suffering a coma from the attack

No matter what is going on with Cindy, this moment will always be many times worse because it deflated (ha) all the agency that was built up to that point.

I feel pretty confident this will come out better in the Remake.

I actually think the exact opposite. I find little reason for most skimpy outfits, even with the in-game justifications given (and let's be honest, there is none for Cindy), but considering how in most of the games featuring them the playable character is male, the camera mirroring where their eyes would wander makes sense to me

Tif's proportions were all fucked up in VII, her bust was one of many glaring issues.

Considering all the characters had exaggerated proportions, she actually didn't stand out that much. I think people had issue with what they decided to exaggerate. Barret's proportions both in and out of battle were all kinds of fucked up

I think the remake will generally be much more serious than the original game, and play a lot of scenes with more seriousness than the original game.

A lot of FF7 fans don't like to admit it, but going back to play the original game now, there is a lot of mood and story whiplash in regards to that game. It just comes off very hokey and a product of its time, the story still comes together decently, but i do think the remake will really refine it into what it should have been as a story about
fighting against an evil oppressive corporation government that incinerates entire towns, along with all the people in them, into ash with flamethrowers.

Off-topic: it was strange that Tifa's bossom never stood out to me as a kid. I still remember my grandma walking in and commenting on her breasts and that's when I noticed. I liked her over Aeris for her more subdued, mature personality, martial arts, face, hair, belly, legs, etc. but I just missed her breasts completely. I could be quite unobservant (and still can).

It's weird seeing her pictures now because it's immediately obvious they're enormous.

True, with Tifa you saw boobs then "oh hey there's someone behind those"

It's funny to me because as fanservicey her design is she's actually totally opposite in personality. There really was no need to give her such a large chest.

In terms of the remake, this is the Tifa I'd want

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLkoG91Nhxg

No shame, no remorse. They'll probably have several outfits per character though, so everyone can get what they want. Considering how they'll be splitting the game into multiple parts, I'm sure they'll have a bunch of additional content per game.

Tifa will look like a next gen version of her Kingdom Hearts 2 model in 7 Remake. It's a great design too.

More like a slightly more realistic Advent children model to take advantage of modern rendering methods. I don't know why she'd look like KH2? Maybe with red eyes for the first time in a while(they changed her eyes to brown for some reason)

In all honesty I wouldn't mind if they made her AC outfit DLC or something you could unlock. Her default is fine imo they just need to not go overboard with her chest this time.

Anime probably has more female protagonists than any medium out there.

And yes, a large chunk of them aren't great, but you can also name a large chunk that are including Madoka Magica, Ghost in the Shell, Sailor Moon, Princess Tutu, Flying Witch, The Slayers and every Ghibli movie ever. And that's just off the top of my head.
This is not true, because there are plenty more TV shows and movies with female protagonists than anime has. Even more than television and cinema are the vast amount of female protagonists in books.
