Today was the first day of shooting for the new Jumanji film in Hawaii, which is neither a direct sequel nor full reboot (think Jurassic World). While the plot is unknown, I have speculated it takes place inside of the game which is looking to be true with the latest images.

Jumanji releases July 28th, 2017 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Nick Jonas.

Oh wow I love the rock, Gillan and black. Hart sucks tho. Conflicted about this. Hopefully Karen Gillan keeps the accent. She loses all of her charm without it

Inside the game? Awesome, I was always very curious after hearing Robin Williams talk about it.

You think that mosquitos, monkeys, and lions are bad? That is just the beginning. I've seen things you've only seen in your nightmares. Things you can't even imagine. Things you can't even see. There are things that hunt you in the night. Then something screams. Then you hear them eating, and you hope to God that you're not dessert. Afraid? You don't even know what afraid is. You would not last five minutes without me.

Karen's outfit is just silly.

Agreed.

My reaction was along the lines of "I'm NOT going to see another Jumanji movie. It's a silly remake/sequel and...The Rock is in it? Really? Like...The Rock? That Rock? ...Fuck it, I'll watch it. You win Hollywood."

I see they're bringing videogame logic to women's outfits.

KG looks like she's going for a quick rollerblade down Hollywood Boulevard.

Just also looks like she belongs in a Resident Evil movie

I've been really unenthused about this movie, but when the idea of it taking place inside the game came to me, it kinda clicked. I'm convinced the movie isn't gonna be great, but I'm in none the less if that's the premise.

Apart from Karen Gillan's outfit being ... super dumb.

Did they make Jack Black 'fatter'? his gut looks weirdly massive in this pic.

Yeah, taking place in the game is at least a decent spin on a "reboot/sequel" or whatever this is that ought to at least give it some new stuff to do.

Though I don't know if it'll have the same appeal without the animals / magic in suburbia feel. There's already a ton of movies about adventuring in unknown lands so it might not feel as unique.

Karen looks like redhead Lara Croft.

Hahaha! This was my immediate thought as well. I'm conflicted though because gatdam I do love redheads.

So no kid actors in the remake? I can't decide whether or not that's a good thing. I'm very much on the fence for this one.

While I'm intrigued by the jungle because, well, we've all been intrigued by it since the movie came out...I'm also trying to keep expectaitons down because there's no way the movie is gonna match the jungle inside each person's mind.

I think one of the reasons the jungle(and the whole Jumanji concept) felt so amazing is that we never really got to see most of it. Feel like nothing can live up to our imagination.

So I think we should all keep our expectations low and--WHO AM I KIDDING I'M HYPED AS FUCK FOR THE JUNGLE YEAH.

Why do people keep saying Jurassic World isn't a proper sequel? It may be a mostly new cast (with Wu and the franchise's most iconic character, THE Rex being the only continuing characters) but the movie spends about half of its runtime damn near literally saying "I'M A SEQUEL TO JURASSIC PARK" wherever possible. If it's a coping mechanism to deal with how shit it is I get ya, but it's definitely still a sequel.

ANYWAY

Dear God this all looks terrible.

This opens next summer and it's just begun filming now? Shit, this has most likely been in development hell for awhile, the shooting script is probably just a few days old per scene. Big CG films usually have a year plus to play with. Unless this has been in true pre-production with CG rigging this is going to be an overpriced turd.

I don't know if a big Hollywood name is the prose way to describe her career but she's certainly been much more successful then Matt Smith.
