Capcom puts anti-cracking rootkit in Street Fighter 5 PC version update

DirectInput has been deprecated since 2005 when Xinput was introduced, and MS stopped recommending that anybody still use it after 2011. I'm not sure what the big deal about DirectInput is, it's Sony's responsibility to implement Xinput support for Dualshock controllers instead of relying on a decade-obsolete standard.

Does anyone know if the "official" wireless adapter Sony released for the Dualshock 4 finally implements Xinput support for PS4 controllers on PC?

Don't even think about purchasing that expensive thing if you can use SCP Toolkit or other community drivers which work perfectly fine with usb and a standard Bluetooth stick.
The best thing about Sony releasing that on pc is that those drivers may get audio support and other few stuff.

The game now doesn't start if you have modified .inis to tweak graphics settings or disable frame smoothing. Which means players with low end PCs that could make the game more playable (like me) with those tweaks are now SOL.

Thanks, Capcom.

That's a shame. I guess they thought that would be something people can use to compromise the game?

Sony didn't release any drivers for the controller itself. Community-developed drivers remain the only solution if you wish to use the controller for a purpose other than Remote Play/PS Now as it's otherwise functionally useless -- no Xinput or DirectInput. The wireless adapter is virtually nothing more than a relatively expensive bluetooth dongle.

Strange that they could take all this time to implement this but still can't take the time to add native DirectInput support into the game.

DirectInput?

YOU STILL CAN'T REBIND THE KEYS IF YOU USE KEYBOARD

You can't.

Rebind the keys.

In a 2016 game.

That's been out 7 months.

Imagine if stick/pad users couldn't rebind their buttons.

Will this stop the people I play online in ranked who teleport really ducking fast across the screen? Or is that just atrocious NetCode?
That's atrocious netcode. Street Fighter 5 doesn't understand the basic concept of syncing players, so whoever is lagging gets an enormous advantage of literally getting to move/attack/etc. before their opponent can.

EDIT:
It's possible Capcom finally fixed their netcode with this release, but if they have they didn't mention it publicly. They seem more focused on screwing over their customers, frankly.

Enforcing the 8f delay I see.

Now I wish I did this. The mod costume thing being blocked would suck. Oh wells.

Oh no, I have vsync off, I hope they added the option to turn it off in game :\

I don't see how changing graphical settings compromises the game honestly. Unless they didn't want people turning off vsync to make it... "fairer" for everyone by forcing a standard.

Wait, the game forces v-sync now?

Official Xinput support requires a license from Microsoft. That license requires the buttons all carry the official Xbox standard designations. Dual Shock controllers aren't compliant and will never get official Xinput support.

Not that this has anything to do with this topic since the Dinput request is about fight sticks which, like flight controllers and wheels, are still largely dependent on Dinput.

So, if I'm reading the internet and the Steam announcement right. This is installing a driver for the anti-cheat solution? Is this like the first game that does that? Because if I remember right, Punkbuster and VAC and other anti-cheat solutions only use .dll files and not installing a custom-driver for this sort of thing.

I think it might be using something like gameguard to stop RAM edits before they even happen

Welp, guess I'm uninstalling Street 5 now. Thanks for letting me know you are installing a rootkit, wbacon! <3
I'd like to add that I have no clue what capcom is actually using, but it seems the most likely as it's an off the shelf solution for capcom's current problems (money hacks, DLC polevolting, mp cheaters)

Not sure how it was before, but now SF5 sits at "Mostly Negative" with 37% of recent positive reviews (as opposed to 50% overall).

That in & of itself can't be it. I was playing all night yesterday and I have a read-only scalability.ini file with all dynamic shadows disabled.

It's a 5gb update, so that's pretty substantial. Just another part of the continuation of this game's botched launch. It's almost where it should have been when it launched though the only way it could ever get there is by making its current dlc characters free permanently. I'm fine with them charging for stages, colors and costumes how they have AND I'm fine with them charging for any new characters from here on out but I personally don't think any of the current batch of dlc characters should have ever cost anything especially since:
A. The vanilla roster is not that big. The roster with the dlc characters is more of a reasonable size.
B. The fact that you can play these characters in the completely free story mode is ridiculous.

All in all, the way Capcom released this game is like a really bad version of what MS did with Killer Instinct. If they just copied that 1:1 I would literally have no complaints. Conceptually, I think the fight money idea is really cool, but had I know it's execution would be what it is I would not have bought the game at launch and would have instead waited til I could get the game+season pass for $60.

Well, MadCatz was able to do it for their sticks. Doing this stuff for PC doesn't affect the CPT since they use PS4's.
MadCatz didn't rewrite the game's code, they wrote device specific drivers. How do you not see the difference here?

Just for the record, my graphics mods all still work. I had to run the Pak Mod Manager again but it applied all my mods with absolutely no problem.

Camera fix and all.

Someone created a .dll to map DirectInput to XInput. It would be trivial for Capcom to create a working solution to this, unless their codebase is completely fucked.

Yeah dantarion was able to do that and they should implement it or something similar. That's not the discussion though, to claim MadCatz did x when they did y can lead to major misunderstandings.

Also, as you mentioned, we don't know how much of a mess their codebase is. Either way, I'm not disagreeing they should include this functionality but I also think people are confusing a lot of ideas.
