Let's Talk About PlayStation VR: List of Upcoming Titles

It's not the same thing as just a normal game release, there is new hardware involved.
For comparison the reviews for PS4 hardware and games went live November 13th and the console released on November 15th in the US. The Xbox one stuff had a similar time frame (19th for a 22nd release date).
So in both cases less than three days. I'm not sure why you would expect this to be different. It's still prior to release which is really all that matters.
Not to mention the fact that Sony has been demoing the thing pretty much everywhere in the US for months now as well as at press events world wide and those impressions are well documented.
What are you expecting to hear from reviews that we don't already know?

So you (and others) do have a point about the hardware-I know the ps4 launch reviews were pretty late but I had it preordered on faith in the future ecosystem, not the launch lineup. I've been burned with ps eye, kinect and move, so with psvr I am treating it like a second console; I'll only jump in when the current library is enough to convince me.

As others have said, these types of games are completely new to us and for a minimum barrier of £350 to try the games it's a lot of faith to go on. My main concern with the games is longevity - RIGS looks like it could be in danger of battlefront levels of content, hidden by the fact that it's in VR.

Hats off to those who have faith; you are the pioneers that will cut through the hype over the next couple of months and explain these games to us in more detail.

There are vids about of some titles. I have watched hour long plays of both Rigs and Battlezone in the last week

Edit:Here they are for anyone interested. I couldnt decide which one to get but after watching these its both! :)

Battlezone:

Rigs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvkxqsqlJfE

I had watched some of the Battlezone stream, assuming it's the one with the guys from Rebellion talking over gameplay and giving stuff away, but I feel like I've seen too much now. I stopped watching before they took out the shield generator; I want some new stuff to see for myself!

Amazon UK still shows a PSVR dispatch date of the 12th, with the carrier still TBC. I'm hoping for a better experience than on PS4 launch day, when I took the day off, waited around, only for the DPD driver to show up 30 minutes before I needed to pick one of the kids up from school! Need a mid-morning delivery this time!

Haha I'm in the exact same position and have also booked the day off work. Hoping for a morning delivery.

Just checked and my dispatch date is the 11th

I was just watching a clip of Driveclub VR where there was a scene where the sun shot out through behind the trees and was momentarily blinding. It got me think wow that would look so awesome in HDR.

Then it hit me.... Sony have never mentioned that PSVR OLEDS have any HDR capabilities even though all PS4s consoles now have that capability.

Wouldnt it be incredible if PSVR had HDR? Maybe they're saving that feature for PSVR2

Quick questiopn. Not sure if it;s been answered elsewhere. I'm getting PSVR at launch and was planning on taking it to a mate;s for a lads weekend a couple of weeks later.

When playing games like Driveclub VR, will what I see in the headset get projected onto the TV, so others in the room can keep in touch with what I'm seeing? I know some games specifically use the TV screen but if there's nothing on the TV at all when playing it could be quite excluding to those sitting around for their chance to play.

pretty sure the minimum output to TV is what the player sees

Shopto are slow with their pre-orders, no Driveclub or batman VR.

I see people buying JPN PSN cards for summer lesson, do you guys speak Japanese as it seems to be completely inaccessible to English only speakers.

The image from the headset will be undistorted and cut a bit to make it look alright on the TV.

So your friends will be able to see the corner you just took. It's not 1:1 but it's close.

How we Soar looks stunning.

Another must have for me.

Damn, this looks really good.

Has this Farpoint gameplay been linked to yet;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9zAs0J69b0

I was watching some footage of this yesterday and while I love the style and the premise, the gameplay leaves a little to be desired. (EDIT - to be fair, the lady playing didn't seem too great though. I'm sure it looks much cooler with a competent player showing it off).

Nice. Cheers folks.

It's been a strange roller-coaster of hype/doubt since my pre-order was placed in March.

I'm officially on the train now though.

Watching Farpoint footage does the game no justice whatsoever. Actually playing it is possibly the most intense gaming experience I've ever had. It's electrifying.

Fair enough. I'm at a PSVR demo in London in a couple of weeks, and I'm most interested in playing Here They Lie and Farpoint if they're there.

This is probably true for all titles and why I've decided to play the demos before buying anything. I mean, for me Driveclub is a no-brainer, but if I get motion sickness then I just wasted my cash. I know from recent purchases that games I thought I wouldn't enjoy I ended up loving (No Mans Sky) and the complete reverse can also true, so having dropped £350 on hardware it'll be nice to get a couple of titles that I will get full benefit from.

VR worlds in a no brainer, we also have the mini games in playroom and a few other freebies coming - so all-in-all (even without VR worlds) you get a really nice introduction to VR, enough to allow you time to make the right choices.

is farpoint a launch game? it looks great, but it seems like it really benefits from that new gun peripheral, which kind of puts me off. i don't want to have to buy something that will realistically only be used in a few games.

actually, what are launch titles in the EU and what are on disc and what are digital? amazon seems to be lacking in everything so far... driveclub VR is there, but not up for pre-order? is it a digital only title? for something out in a couple of weeks it's surprisingly hard to find the games to pre-order.

As I scrolled through the list, the titles reminded me instantly of cheap WiiWare games. I am a little concerned about the replay value of some of these. Seems more like a device that will be more of a, "hey look what I've got", than something that will be genuinely enjoyed.

Glad I let my brother preorder VR first so I can try his before I decide to make a purchase.

Its not a launch game. Most probably next year

Amazon changed my estimated delivery date for the camera again from 10/17~12/7 to 10/5. Conversely my Best Buy order of the old camera was pushed back to 10/22. Lovely.

Has anyone had any first hand impressions of Super Stardust VR? It seems like it could be one of the cooler launch titles, but I can't find much about it other than one YouTube video. The first person mode seems really fun.

Heads up, you can preorder Here They Lie for $15.99 from Amazon with a Prime account.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GW8WRG8/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It's also available at $19.99 digitally for everyone else.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H440QZI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

That's a good price. Tried to preorder to get the Prime discount but the game isn't available for preorder yet [only digital with no discount].

Also, Battlezone doesn't seem like anything special but @ $40 I would consider it [especially after a 20$ discount]. I was also initially interested in Eve Valkyrie but it doesn't seem very appealing at the $60 price. Drive Club VR I would probably pay full price for though.

So when the hell is a Time Crisis VR game going to be announced? I feel like they could port over one of those arcade joints so I can be 12 again.

While you wait you should try "rush of blood", the demo I tryed convinced me to buy it with the PSVR, and that this kind of game could be great again with this technology!

The box is hooked up to the HDMI out though. It's theoretically possible for it to mix a 5.1 audio output that is based on your head position.
Ok, let's say for example, something's flying over your head and you're leaning to the left. That means you should hear it more in your right ear. With headphones, it's easy. With a surround setup, there's no way unless you have ceiling speakers on their own channel.

So after all the talk of shortages seems a lot of places still have day one stock...maybe the cancelled pre-orders?
We don't know how many units Sony is manufacturing, how many units they allocated for preorders and how many units they allocated to be available in stores.

But yeah sure do seem to be a lot of cancelled preorders out there. Which is weird because not much has changed since preorders went up, if anything we just have more positive impressions and more game announcements since then.

We also had a lot of opportunities to try the headset out. This had many people canceled their preorder (including me).

Are there a lot of titles that require the Move controllers? Im really leaning on selling my deluxe edition to a friend who wants it, and keeping the vanilla version for myself...

None of my "must haves" (RIGS, Battlezone, Rez and Super Hypercube) seem to use them - am I missing something good?

Lot of peoples preordered just for the hype... I think Apple strategy to have the product available not too long after the announcement it's good for this...

That said, many people now want to try it before buy it. I never preordered it because i wanted to try it... and now that i did, I want it! :D

You'd compensate by having the audio coming through the speakers relative to your right ear. You wouldn't need ceiling speakers for that. I get what you're saying, but you could still simulate it to a reasonable degree. It wouldn't be as good, but it would still be doable.

I didn't even consider needing headphones until reading these last couple pages. What's the best way to go? I have a pair of super fancy Sennheisers but that wouldn't give me a mic.

Should I just grab some Golds, or would Silvers be ok since I'd figuratively only ever use these with PSVR because I have way too much invested in my living room audio setup?

I thought one of the features for the Pro was that you won't need the processor unit, that it will have that built in. Is that no longer the case?
Wow...this has never been the case. It's so easy for misinformation to spread. Journalist really need to edit what they say.

Not lots that require them..but stuff like Arkham, London Heist and Rush of Blood are likely greatly enhanced by them.

Plus they'll probably be very handy if you're going to buy 'Dreams' by Media Molecule (which will hopefully be next year). They seem to want to create a VR mode (although it may not be there at launch)...but even if they don't, most dev videos have shown them using move controllers as the preferred way of creation for the title.

Any headsets will work - you get some earbuds with the system (tho not sure if there's a mic) - but yeah, silvers will work fine

I noticed that Farpoint needs the Playstation Aim controller. Where can I get one of these? I don't see them listed online anywhere. Farpoint wasn't even on my radar until I saw some reviews. Now seems like a must have.

it doesn't need it, just helps with the experience/emersion. I don't think it's out until next year anyway

It is my understanding the headset has a built in mic so any earphones will work.

Any news of ways of addressing motion sickness? How can we expect this to go mainstream if every other person wants to barf after a session?
Like everything else, different people have different reactions to different stimuli. The best thing developers can do is keep the frame rate high (I believe Sony has mandated no dips below 60fps) and extensively test their game before release to minimize people feeling sick.

Think you're exaggerating a little too much here.

Not really. It's the same story with most people I speak to. Many, many people get nauseous playing certain VR games. It's not a problem that we should just ignore.

Can't help but feel terribly concerned about how successful this sort of product would be with mainstream consumers if we're just hoping for the best.
