TITANFALL | 2 Multiplayer Previews

I didn't play the tech test but after watching videos and reading about the complaints I was initially disappointed. However Respawn did make a bunch of changes, and while maybe not perfect at least they have shown they listen to the community. Everything I've seen recently looks very promising and I can't wait till next Friday. I don't care if it's not perfect the game looks super fun and no other shooter I've played plays as smooth as Titanfall.

I think the game can really only get better from here on out with updates and DLC. I trust Respawn. I think they tried too hard to make Titanfall 2 something different than the first, and they got a wake up call from the tech test and made needed changes based off feedback. I think they will continue to listen to feedback and improve the game as time goes on. This is the shooter to get this year IMO, however everyone's tastes differ.

My only dilemma is whether I buy it for PC, or try and come up with the cash and get a Xbone so I can play with a few more friends and ensure longevity of the online community. That's mt only concern with the PC is how long the community will last.

After watching the Frothy Omen vids, I have to wonder: is this kind of hyper kinetic movement even possible on consoles? It's just nonstop bouncing, wallrunning, sliding, etc. Amazing.

If I tried to play like this on ps4, my hand would cramp up after 45 secs

It's definitely possible, but it takes a ton of practice.

Is it more widespread on PC, you think? I would assume so.

Not quite sure, to be honest. Plenty were doing it on the first game for Xbox One, I could get some good momentum going but then would stall out by running into something the wrong way or messing up the button combos to speed up. Some were just flying and zipping around, though. There's some crazy videos out there of it. But controller is a lot of left stick click, jump boost and pressing B to slide, and keep up a variant of that (it's been a while, so my order might be messed up there). For PC, I'm not sure. It might be faster and easier, or might be a tad different, depending on key bindings and such!

Air strafing and bunny hopping are a lot easier on KB/M. I imagine things might be easier with an Elite controller in TF2.

Every time I watch videos of this I want it even more. Ended up picking it up despite my worries about the health of the PC community. If it dies in a month it's not my fault!

Great now I'm hyped again! After the tech test I didn't think that was possible, but these previews are pretty reassuring.

There are controller players that do stuff like that. Gamesager is pretty well known for it. He even played on a controller at the PC capture event.

So has all the complaints/issues everyone had in the tech test been addressed/fixed in the final release?

Depends what you are referring to. There have been some significant changes, some of which made their way into the alpha in the last few days like movement and a Titan timer. But they aren't exactly going to redesign maps because some people didn't like them.

On one hand, videos by good players make the game seem really exciting and make me want to pre-order. On the other hand, said videos of good players destroying lesser ones highlights just how fast the TTK is, and I feel like if I pick it up, I'll be similarly destroyed by old TF1 vets. As a result, the coverage doesn't really push me towards a purchase one way or the other. That's just me, though.

It does look a lot of fun. Makes CoD looks like a snoozefest. I would think this makes a perfect complement to BF1. Got your reality-based historical and futuristic to mix things up
I believe that was EA's plan all a long.

Yes, remember we have the elite controller now ;)

I like forthy's vids, and he's a good player but he wouldn't even be one of the top players on console to be honest. He's a mid-tier PC player. THere's some PC guys out there that are ridiculous.

Well, fuck it I'm in (on PC). Can't help myself! Does the PC version still have the awesome controller support that let players compete admirably with mouse/kb users ? (obviously not being the best players but I remember the PC version of 1 having some kind of aim assist that helped). I'm a kb/m fella but was curious :)

There is still aim assist to the distraught of some of the KBM players. It doesn't really bother me but I am worried about people abusing it by emulating a controller while playing with a mouse, which gets you the best of both worlds.

I'm not too worried either tbh, the best m/kb players will consistently be better anyway. Hell I might even be tempted to use controller now and again.

Polygon posted a pre-review,focused on multiplayer.

http://www.polygon.com/2016/10/21/13354294/titanfall-2-multiplayer-review-preview

They seem pretty positive about it all and the full review is coming on Monday.

Not really

The end result is a multiplayer component with fantastic mechanics that often feels hamstrung by difficult-to-understand design choices.

Verticality seems like less of a priority, but more frustratingly, several maps have large tunnel-like sections that make them feel downright claustrophobic. Feeling trapped seems counter to what Titanfall does well.

but the dynamics are thrown off enough to make for something that doesn’t click together as well as it did before.

He brings up a decent amount of issues.

Any idea when we're getting the achievement list?

Also is the pilot skill 'radar pulse' or whatever it's called in tf2?

I find it kind of funny that everyone seems to want TF1 still. The community for TF1 fell dramatically around 5-6 months after launch didn't it?

If that is true they had to change some things right?

Should be very easy I'd you the elite controller. That's how I'm gonna do it.

Seemed quicker than that.. For all the "I cant believe they changed that", much of the community was gone very quickly for a reason.

Change button layout to Evolved.. moves jump to r1, Tactical ability to x, crouch to R3.

But if use use grapple it would be x/a button.

Not mine, the design choices are all still there. Killstreak based titan timer, no rechargeable shield on titans and quick TTK.

Basically, you are going to have a shit ton of lopsided games.

Titan build is basically the same as a timer, just a fresh coat of paint, you get passive charge overtime.

TTK I don't know, feels pretty consistent to me.

I agree on the shield part though.

I'm worried that they've codified this too much, the beauty about tf1 was its simplicity, there were a set amount of guns, titans and abilitys, watching vids on tf2 seems they've went down the rabbit hole of cod were there's too much shit that over complicates the game.

Nah, I don't think so. The amount of guns in the final game aren't that many (some will be added post-launch as free DLC), and the majority of the unlocks are camos for Titans, Pilots, etc.

Yep, pretty much. Maybe it was lack of content, but if you're making a multi-million dollar game to develop, you can't rely on "maybe."

On one hand, videos by good players make the game seem really exciting and make me want to pre-order. Important to note that not every player is as good as the YTers. I guarantee you, you'll see some newbies playing it, which means everyone will be on even ground. If you want to be safe, go play on PS4 so most of the people playing will be new to the franchise?

Personally, I think the concerns regarding the map are valid and at the same time, not that big of a deal due to the free maps and modes thing. I mean, we're getting Angel City in December, and I assume Respawn will reguarly dole out free maps and stuff to engage the community. That said, I do understand why it could be a problem for some.

On the movement thing, it's entirely possible to not bunnyhop and do all sorts of crazy slides and still do well. If you can do those crazy moves, that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a killing machine since you have to, y'know, aim and shoot. All the fast movement in the world won't mean shit if you can't shoot and aim properly, Plus there are Titan battles to contend to as well.

Can't speak for everyone, but I think people will be surprised at how this game reviews.

Nice, I like the phase shift, but I feel it will be frustrating to be on the opposite side of it. :p
Invisibility was my default ability on Tf1, but it will be hard to pass the grappling hook, and most of the others seem fun to use too.
Right now I'm confident about the game. The only thing still bothering me from the alpha is the map design, a lot of fun in Tf1 came from running around from wall to rooftop to zipline... Other than that, TTK felt no different from the original (where it was quite short too), and I'm ok with the non-regenerating shields, with the added battery pack game. I'm only a bit sad of having lost the frantic "shoot your electronic guts" rodeo moves.

FFA is Pilots only isn't it.

Does Variety Match matchmake us with people who specifically choose a game type and vice versa?
