Now I know that Destiny had a pretty average plot, I at least liked what Rebirth tried to do despite how utterly inane it all was, and I've heard that Destiny 2 was a train-wreck in the story department. But was Graces' story really that bad?
Graces's story might be the best story Team Destiny has ever churned out, but it was pretty blah anyway, and the cast was especially not really to my liking. Vesperia has my favorite cast.

And Rebirth's story is hilaaaaaaaaaarious
haha, racism spell

If it's on 360 a western release is highly likely, I expect PS3 only. Hopefully it's by Team Symphonia.

I hope it's a new Team Symphonia game, too. Well, actually, after playing Tales of Graces, what I really want is a game where Team Symphonia guys do everything except the combat and customization systems, and the Team Destiny guys handle that. Why can't that happen? (._. )

Honestly, I don't see no reason for it to not happen. If it came down to it, the two teams coming together may actually be better for the franchise as a whole. Especially if Namco may actually do something in the way of sense in light of all these budget cuts, and focus the series on ONE CONSOLE, for the love of all that's good! :lol

I mean seriously, it doesn't have to be that hard. Make it so that fans have that "assurance" that they only have to worry about one console as the means to get mainstream Tales games, and we won't have to worry about the fallout that's been occurring over the last few years. Focus Namco, FOCUS!

Either way: this game had better not have TP!

No TP would be almost enough to get my notice, even if it is 3D and/or Team Symphonia. :lol

Team Symphonia/Destiny don't really exist anymore. This new installment will probably be developed by a mix of staff, just like Hearts and Graces.

I'm hoping for another Abyss game. The FOF was so much fun in battle.

I agree they were SO freaking awesome.

Not to mention that Abyss also happened to have one of the best casts of protagonists and antagonists in an RPG. The cast of antagonists were so great that I was so disappointed by Vesperia's villains.

Well Luke got annoying (not as bad as some people make him out to be) but Jade and Guy made up for him. Especially Jade.

Luke aside, the supporting cast is just so awesome :)

Tear, Anise, Natalia, Guy, and Jade are all great.

Psht, does Abyss have a villain who looks like a glam rocker wearing a purple cod piece voiced by Liam O'Brien? I think not...
Not that I would know since it was too good for Europe

Having played Abyss long after Vesperia I have to disagree. I much prefer Vesperia's cast over those in Abyss. The God Generals were not really all that good of antagonists tbh. I did like Tear, and Guy as characters though.

Looking back on Kurosaki Ichigo's comment about it likely being a remake or whatever, I could've sworn that earlier this year someone (Yoshitsumi?) said the 2010 Tales lineup is going to be different from what people usually expect.

We have a remake of Narikiri Dungeon, and there doesn't appear to be any indicator that the next game is going to be a new game in a new universe. Maybe they were just overhyping things or ND was the only surprise they had, but maybe it's a sign that this game isn't going to be entirely "new" to fans.

I liked Jade, Tear and Guy, but I prefer the cast of Vesperia too. Karol might be annoying but the other five really make a colorful group. The villains in Vesperia may not be very noteworthy but I guess Abyss lost me a bit when the game included a direct to VHS sequel after the ending :lol

Also, yeah, Anise is a bit less meh than Colette aka Sorry Sorry Sorry, methinks

Colette is probably the most annoying character in the series.
But I also dislike Jade. I know that's a terribly uncommon opinion, but his "oh my goddd, I'm such an old mannn" schtick really rubbed me the wrong way. Also Guy sucks because JYB ruins everything he touches. :(

Guy was voiced by JYB? The more you know! He was pretty funny (his character). EEEK a woman. But the explanation was pretty lame.

I want a new game by the same team from Abyss/Verperia.

I liked Raven over Jade, but never did Jade complain about being old. I just finally beat Abyss two days ago and Jade was always a snarky sarcastic ass, Raven was the one who was always like "old bones this" "old man that".

Jade definitely did it. Raven did it way more, yes.

Jade did complain a bit towards the beginnning and some skits, but yes, for the most part he was taking jabs at everybody and everything (I liked when they're all explaining their motives at the end of part 2 and he says "not my style" :D )

I will admit that Graces cast didn't really capture me based on art style and voicing alone. I like the design of Disco Swordsman and I think I would like Pascal as a character (maybe...) but every one else is just... meh.

As for Rebirth... well... I must be pretty strange but "We're all people!" and "KURRREEAAA" skated by pretty un-noticed for me. Of course, I still need to finish Rebirth (Only like... halfway in it) so it probably does get hilariously worse. For some reason, Tales games just can't make a good final act to save their lives.

Eh... I actually did like Tear, Jade, Guy, and last-10-hour Luke a lot, but the antagonists really, really, really were not there in my opinion. The God Generals were either standard or contained such horribly flawed logic that detracted from their... villain-ness in my opinion. Vesperia's antagonists were not anything to write home about either, but I found the God Generals ranging from standard to just bad in comparison to Vesperia's simply standard villains.

In comparison, Symphonia just had an almost bad everything outside of Kratos, Raine, and... surprisingly Colette.

While Raven does stretch the "old man" routine a bit too far, at least he does it with a deliberate sense of camp and humor. The guy knows he's just 30, but in a group of mostly kids with only two members past 21, it's still in his character to play up being the oldest member to the extreme.

This is different from say... Myuria from Star Ocean 4 where she repeatedly demeans other characters for lacking "experience" and not being "old enough" in comparison despite how she's at the ripe old age of 23, is only 2 years older than the main character, and is not even close to being the oldest person of the party nor the most knowledgeable, experienced, etc, etc.

Who'd choose Zelos over Kratos? I know I wouldn't, father + son combo FTW!

I would, and did! And I'd do it again to if I ever feel like playing through Symphonia again.

Kratos sucks ass. I enjoyed beating the ever living hell out of him with Yuri in Vesperia. Poser badass vs THE MAN. Too bad emo loser Leon was nowhere to be found...oh well, at least there were those enemies equipped with bone masks.

This thread is tempting me to go back and try to beat Rebirth. I liked the battle system a lot but the dungeons were awful. It's mostly 2-3 screens. The halfway dungeon even has the same 2-3 screens repeated over and over. As for the plot, I was using a translation guide so I can't be sure if it was accurate but it was mostly dumb. I stopped at the
the village with the sakura trees after the evil queen switch body with Claire.
.

Maybe after I beat what I'm replaying (it's gonna take a while to beat ). I'm gonna start a new game .

This thread is tempting me to give Dawn of a New World of Ratatosk Knights Monster Joker another go. Not that it's hard since I didn't really dislike what little I played of it in the first place, other than Whiney Mcbabypants.

In order to do so, you'll need courage.

Courage is the magic that makes dreams a reality.

It's only the really early dungeons that are that small. It gradually gets bigger and better, especially when you have to use the characters' specific force abilities to progress.

Rebirth still has the best battle system in the series. I don't know why Team Destiny abandoned that concept and keep going for combo friendly and spammable battle systems :(

I dunno, I like Graces's system more than Rebirth's. But I'm a total sucker for timed dodging/blocking systems. Rebirth's was my favorite before Graces, though.

In Abyss they all become hypocrite at one point anyway.
Luke, it's all your fault the town fell into the underworld. Ion knew everything and did absolutely nothing.

Hmmm, well I haven't played Graces yet. But I did hear that it was using the chain capacity system, and honestly, I'm not a big fan of it. Were any major changes made to make it less spammable?

I really like how Rebirth (and Destiny 2, to a less extent) limited how frequently you could use artes. It made the normal attacks actually count, and of course the three line system I believe really did emphasise blocking and dodging even on normal difficulty.

In games like Hearts and Destiny remake, on normal, you can just spam artes randomly and easily win. It looks flashy, but it's less engaging <_<

I've been lurking here long enough to know you really hate JYB, but honestly I think he did a pretty great job with Guy. I think his voice really fits the somewhat campy nature of the tales games.

Ok on topic I hope its a Team Symphonia game, that at least it gives me a little bit of hope it'll be localized.

I feel like the style shift system makes all of the difference in the world, honestly. Graces doesn't even have "regular attacks." The A-style attacks are like mini-artes, most of which have a special effect associated with them (this ties into the game's weakness system). Also, the game rewards variety and punishes spamming with the critical gauge, which goes up quickly if you use many different attacks, and much more slowly (or even down) if you start doing the same thing over and over again. When the critical gauge fills, you get a free critical hit, and later, even a free heal. Plus, as I said, it has a pretty cool timed dodging system that gives you CC if you dodge at the right time. It's a pretty different system, all told, and I'm definitely not doing it justice with this little explanation. I think you should give it a shot!
