Far Left = Bernie or Busters, The Intercept, US Uncut. Jill Stein. I think we can safely call that Far Left. If we can't, let me know so I'll quickly exit this thread.

As for the "facts" - I've seen enough within this theead itself to question the "this is evil" narrative.

If anyone wants to have a conversation without that kind of rhetoric, it's possible. However, I think the major reason why this thread won't merit a lot of posts is that the rhetoric here is already incendiary.

When Stien threw her support on this, I was worried this would be the reaction. Suddenly basic human rights were far right ideals, so it can be brushed off. Lord forbid natives are upset over everything the US has done to them.

Didn't you get the memo? Basic human rights is far left.

I'll be honest.

The Far Left has taken this up as their pet cause. So... as a result, I'm naturally skeptical that this is a great evil.

The Far Left would like us to believe Hillary is just as bad as Donald. I think this issue serves those interests.
So you're going to be dismissive cause a certain group of people care about this issue?

You can look up the issue and why it's an outrage yourself without having to read/listen to what certain groups say. Even better what don't you read what the Sioux people are protesting about.
Didn't you get the memo? Basic human rights is far left.

Oh silly me.

And moderate republicans and democrats are the only voices of reason. So if those groups aren't mentioning it in the corporate media it must be a non issue. just some hooligans protesting for the heck of it. I don't need to look into it.

Our police state is such a fucking joke. Considering that all those white people just got off for terrorizing federal property.

Disgusting, and even more so that this won't even get a few pages. But Obama is so cool and lol at Hillary's tweets.
Is there anything else to add?

Either it's the 1600's the 1800's or the 2000's things don't change at all. I commend the people for struggling so long and hard, I fear this could escalate the violence due to not allowing for peaceful protest.

While Hillary is barely acknowledging any of this, Bernie Sanders wrote an open letter to Obama asking him to protect the protesters, shut down the pipeline, and protect Indigenous rights.
Great letter. 3 points that are of inmediate impact of the protestors and how the national guard has no business being there and approving the project without having done an ambiental and cultural review is reprehensible.

Not sure if anybody's seen it, but on a rally a Native American confronted Bernie and it really transformed his conversation on the topic. Here it is

https://youtu.be/bCYiN0N9dqs

Native Americans suffer even more abuse from police, from shooting, rapes and arrests, but they don't have the numbers to call out for a nation wide protest.

Yeah, I gave up hope posting updates in the first thread, since it was obvious only a few of us (mostly native ourselves) cared.

Since there's only like, ten of us here, it ain't gunna gain a whole lot of traction. Look at the Buffalo thread. People cracking jokes.
Don't feel discouraged, neogaf is a popular site. The audience of lurkers and non-members is many times larger than the number of those leaving posts.
...so I'll quickly exit this thread.
Not a bad idea. You seem far more worried and concerned with "far left" potentially using this as a soapbox than the actual issue.

Was the drone black?

Also, the drone was shooting video when the police shot at it and the police version of events SHOCKINGLY looks like total lies:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm8E_ZjJgho

Keep pushing nonsense to support an oil pipeline, though

Insane. Guy was immediately retreating w the drone once they made it clear (by drawing guns!) that they did not want it near them.

EDIT: My understanding of this is that it's not actually Sioux land, but federal land adjacent to their land. Though it does have cultural value to them )burial grounds) in addition to threatening the safety of their land. Which makes the comparisons to the bullshit bundy stand off more apt. Even more ridiculous when you consider that the bundys weren't even from near the land that they occupied, these people are.

This has to make native americans feel enraged and sad considering their history in this country .Angry tears like when you cry when mad

I really feel for them

Of fucking course.

And also of course,,there will be not mention of this on national news, and it will be swept under the rug by progressives as 'far left conspiracy theories'.

As if the far left has anything to do with Natives other than a random woman running for president who wanted to hitch her star to the movement to bring more attention to herself.

North Dakota pipeline activists say arrested protesters were kept in dog kennels

Protesters said that those arrested in the confrontation had numbers written on their arms and were housed in what appeared to be dog kennels, without bedding or furniture. Others said advancing officers sprayed mace and pelted them with rubber bullets.

“It goes back to concentration camp days,” said Mekasi Camp-Horinek, a protest coordinator who said authorities wrote a number on his arm when he was housed in one of the mesh enclosures with his mother, Casey.

At least 141 people were arrested Thursday after hundreds of police officers in riot gear, flanked by military vehicles releasing high-pitched “sound cannon” blasts, moved slowly forward, firing clouds of pepper spray at activists who refused to move.

Authorities claimed some protesters turned violent during the confrontation, setting fires, tossing Molotov cocktails and, in one instance, pulling out a gun and firing on officers.

Some of the activists claimed Friday that police had opened fire with rubber bullets on protesters and horses. One horse was euthanized after being shot in the leg, said Robby Romero, a Native American activist.

“They were shooting their rubber bullets at our horses,” he said. “We had to put one horse down,” he said.

Camp-Horinek said authorities entered the teepees that activists had erected in the path of the pipeline, a four-state, 1,200-mile conduit to carry oil from western North Dakota to Illinois.

“It looked like a scene from the 1800s, with the cavalry coming up to the doors of the teepees, and flipping open the canvas doors with automatic weapons,” he said.

Wow this whole thing continues to grow wilder. How is this not bigger news out there. If it wasnt for GAF I dont think I would have even heard about any of this.

I hope in 50 years time this and the treatment of Calais migrant camp will be seen as great injustices and not just forgotten in time

There's a complicit effort to make sure no one knows word one about this story. If these acts took place to a different race or ethnicity anywhere else. there would be no end to the outrage. You're witnessing a mass, concerted effort to mask reality from the populace. Welcome to the future.

The shit the government has done to Native peoples and the public's collective apathy is incomprehensible. Putting people in fucking dog kennels and flanking them in military style; I don't even get how any empathetic human being could do that to someone else.

This is awful.

Unrelated but semi-related: I work for a water utility. The other year, we snaked a water line under a rather large river using directional drilling. ...It leaked like a sonofabitch immediately. And this is oil.

But this is just the far left freaking out over nothing and protesting for the sake of protest, not a human rights issue!

I'm so fucking disgusted right now.

Who is saying this is far left or right besides one poster ,I'm sure all sane human beings regardless if they are considered liberals or not should see this as wrong.

Not lashing out at you , just seems people try and paint everything as right wing bad. The media needs to be on this , the lack of attention this is getting is horrible.

Even with out all the facts how can you be okay with this happening?

1. To these people
2. To the environment

Seriously wut?

With all the bullshit people spew about "find another way" why doesn't that ever come up for things like this?

There's have been a couple of people in various threads who it seems because we are bit critical of Clintons response to this, apparently see that as an attack on her and then write it off as a far left issue that doesn't matter. Also, because Stien hitched herself to the movement and Bernie has been outspoken about it, it's labeled thusly.

I'm just baffled at how progressives seems to want to jump through hoops in order to ignore this.

The fact that the 'liberal media', which sells white guilt in mass, prepackaged forms, haven't made even a cursory effort to develop this story tells you everything you need to know. I really don't care what a nut I sound like, this whole situation is preposterous to the point of surreal.

Ok I see where you coming from makes sense. Bernie really is one of the few good politicians left.

Look, I'm a white person who grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which has one of the densest integrated First Nations population on this continent. I've seen firsthand how terribly and unfairly FN people get treated by authorities, even in Canada.

This shit is reprehensible. For as many people in America claim that the country is "theirs" this election, it isn't. It was stolen, and near-genocide was committed on an entire race of people. That a corporation-influenced militarized police force is imprisoning and chasing away a justifiably-protesting native population is maybe the perfect culmination of the true American Dream, because that dream is the sole domain of the upper-class white.

Recognize your fucking privilege, white people. Jesus Christ.

Fuck all of this.

So were they on private property or not? If they were, I don't see what the big deal is.

I understand the issue, but it is privately owned land. That won't stop the "interesting" bunch of posters in this thread perpetuating a certain narrative about America.

Good to meet your standards. At least I made whatever effort I could to raise awareness. Put up hard cash and managed a retweet. You just sit in your ivory tower, precious.

The post you made is your idea of awareness?

I understand the issue, I'm just not going to listen to loaded language that only exists to fold into other narratives.

Ok I see where you coming from makes sense. Bernie really is one of the few good politicians left.

I want to add that Hillary made a statement on her website about protecting the lands and helping the natives as one of her campaign promises.

Now, she like, settle it yourselves. Not even VERBAL support from her.
