Why all the secrecy? Especially when most can't get their heads around all the settings etc. Why not just let the media do the work for them!

They probably want the media to have enough time with the hardware and games before letting them explain it to the public. Since some people have a hard time understanding what the pro does it could be a problem if the media didn't have time to understand it and started spreading misinformation

I know the Razor controller is officially licenced but I didn't expect to see Sony actually display it with the PS4.

My favorite thing is how they keep fucking putting the Platinum headset in all the Pro ads and flyers (and even in that case) even though they delayed the damn thing to January

Huh, I just assumed it was out already. When is it delayed til?

Added The Witness, not sure if it was at the show but it seems the patch details were released as part of this final media push.

Can anyone shed more lights on GT Sport? It is not clear whether it is native 4K or not. I will add it to my thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1289840 as soon as we got an official confirmation. Added The Witness btw.

Knowing Kaz he will aim at native even if it messes up the frame rate! That's the GT way, push the tech, screw the players.

I'm really hoping he can somehow give the players what they want which is a rock solid 60 not a 50-60 racer.

GTSport is using 4k checkerboard @ 60FPS according to the technical image shown at the presentation.

Let's not say things we'll regret down the line, alright?

The alpha was really good and most people either liked it or loved it. I get your point about not setting expectations but it was playable 2 different times this year.

I'm waiting on the word about Pro patches for Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 before I decide if I should buy both of them this year or wait for the Pro and buy them next year.

That's exactly what I expect from Kaz. But they can't do that, because of PSVR.
I don't think GTS on standard PS4 will be great for PSVR and expect a poor VR version on standard consoles, but it will be an amazing killer app on Pro and should be rock solid 60fps for this.

it is going to be rock solid 60fps for PSVR regardless of console.

Give us a Bloodborne patch for the love of God.
I'm wondering if people would seriously be willing to pay for Pro upgrades on some older games where it's very unlikely to happen on it;s own? I'd maybe be willing to pay up to for some games to get a decent update, it would be very rare for me to be willing to do that and the improvements would really need to be what I feel that particular game needs.

I'm down to pay for Bloodborne patch.

$60 for 60fps Bloodborne.

$30 for checkerboard 4K.

$50 for chromatic aberration toggle

Ah thank you I never really saw a clean shot of that slide.

True that the rate has to be solid for VR, I'm hoping it at least matches image quality of DCVR on standard PS4, although that might be a push given the car count. Pro I'm hoping will blow our socks off! Can't wait to get my machine on the 26th! Then we have the wait for the game.

i NEED some impressions about fan noise under high load.

I'd say you'll probably need to wait for the Monday embargo on that one. The impressions from the event probably won't be any good as they're behind cases and it's a loud room.

Disable framepacing; $3
Add MSAA 2x; $3
Disable Chromatic Aberration; $2

the answer is no and shame on you for even bringing it up

yeah, don't worry. PS4 pro is maybe a christmas purchase, not day1 for me.

If it's somewhere between my sometimes-Jet-Engine OG PS4 and an almost-quiet PS4 slim i might just buy it (which i wasn't planning on doing at all, but ever since i bought a PSVR, where some games look really rough; like below what i would consider nice looking.)

Looks like media are starting to get thier units, Julia Harding I think her name is got hers this morning pic on twitter.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

1080p

  • Supersampling
  • Enhanced Shadow Maps
  • Enhanced Anisotropic Filtering
  • HDR
4K

  • 2160p Checkerboard Upscaling
  • HDR

Wait I don't understand this.

If it's super sampling at 1080p output for 1080p TV's, that means it's internally rendering at a near 4k resolution and being super sampled to your 1080p TV.

So why does that mode have more graphical features than if its outputting to a 4k native TV? It's still rendering at 4k either way?

Yes, I would easily if the difference between getting them and not getting them. Or getting well crafted upgrades versus simple resolution bumps.

I believe it's rendering at 1800p and then down to 1080p, not going up to near 4k and then back down. May be wrong though.

That's the beauty of checkerboard: the initial buffer is 1920x2160, then checkerboard rendering basically doubles the horizontal pixel (3840x2160).

1080p output is probably lighter on the RAM, that's why they have more resources

Nope. The game is checkerboarding from 1080p x 2 (like ROTTR, Days Gone etc) to reach 2160p and not 1800p like some other games.

The info we got in PS Blog is very vague and doesn't concretely confrim that the 1080p mode has extra graphical features compared to the 2160p checkerboard mode. It was kinda misleading. That is why everyone should wait for further official details.

Yes, clearly I should feel shame for asking that question.

There are a few games that people repeatedly name on here as them really wanting to get Pro improvements and for various reasons these games aren't going to get that sort additional support. I'm merely wondering if people feel that the developer should spend their own resources on what they may well believe there is no benefit in financing or whether people would be willing to alleviate that by paying for it themselves.

It's not something that people need to be concerned about as it was confirmed on 9th September that companies are not allowed to charge for Pro improvements.

Yeah, I just hope we don't have different fan suppliers this time like we did at launch. I have one of the quiet PS4s from launch so I'm just hoping that lottery doesn't exist this time.

Does anyone have any idea how loud the console is?

The fans on my launch console were really loud (even after changing the thermal compound) so I switched over to a newer one a few months back and it's whisper quiet. I'm really hoping that the Pro is just as quiet as it's almost a deal breaker for me.
