Basically. Get fucked, potential usurper. CDPR is goddamn perfect right now.

EA: Hey, that's successful... get over here!
CDPR: Well, it's because we got to make some great games, got to support them post-launch, and gave consumers very reasonable season passes with amazing content.
EA: okay but do it like THIS!
*CDPR does it the EA way, pissing everyone off
EA: What happened :(
CDPR: We have no idea.

I seriously doubt that it's EA. At this point, I'd rather it be them than Vivendi or Activision, but I would prefer they stay independent.

The best thing they do is GOG, so as long as that isn't affected than I would be interested to see who buys them. The most important thing is GOG needs to stay around. it's such an essential site.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Let's be honest, any hostile takeover of Ubisoft is going to result in an insignificant change to consumers. A hostile change of CD Projekt could have huge ramifications.

Yeah, I'm not sure what merging the CD Projects brands would do. Red handles the Witcher and Cyberpunk brands. The other one (name escapes me) handles GoG. Merging the two would mean removing the Witcher from Steam, AFAIK? Not a lot else?

I think you missed the point, the merger discussion is separate from a potential hostile takeover.

Don't think it's Vivendi. Most likely a Chinese company if anything.

Chinese companies have been going on a buyout spree like crazy this year.

Geez. Iwinksi was only this year talking about how there's been a constant line of companies wanting to buy them but they've maintained they'd prefer to keep independent.

I hope not, but it's always a risk when you take a company to the market. You can get money, but also get taken over.

Yeah, but they made their company public, so that opened up the option to just do this the other way.

Calm the fuck down everybody. Judging by the volume of traded shares in in the last couple of months there is barely any movement of ownership, the last big trades of merely 2,5k being mid of July and 2k in October. Yes, CDP has a low marketcap compared to other competitors but I don't see any indicators that there is somebody out there systematically buying up shares for a take-over despite them being a cheap grab tbh.
Nintendo, go grab them!

They were up for poll consideration, but CD Projekt isn't an online game studio (yet).

Yeah, today's CD PR would make little sense in Tencent's portfolio but you never know. Maybe they want to enter the console space for whatever reason. Or make blockbuster games.

They are independent. It's just that they're also publicly traded.

Compare to Valve, which is both an independent company and a private company.

They're as independent as EA is.

Having ridiculous funding, technical support from DICE, and the ability to take as long with their games as they need?

Like CDPR needs any of that.

They already can take as long as they need for their game.

Erm, I'm not sure where you get your information from, but two large insurance funds recently sold quite a lot of their shares.

Edit: My mistake, while they sold part of their shares this month, they toalled just over 2% of the total stock.

No. Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3.

Dragon Age 2's reception is a big part of why they changed their policies and no longer meddle in BioWare's business.

Mass Effect 3 is a fantastic game whose faults (like the ending) are entirely on BW's writing team.

For you.

I disagree. If Ubisoft gets taken over you can say goodbye to their smaller titles where they let devs do their own thing, like Valiant Hearts, Child of Light, Grow Home
All great titles that quite likely wouldn't exost if Vivendi owned Ubi.

Yep, the direction Bioware took on gameplay and story is on Bioware only.

What about the death of GOG? Or the canceling of CD Projekt's future new IPs that don't sell gangbusters like Witcher 3? Yeah, they need to stay independent.
