Games as a service was a mistake. It's nothing but trash.

Announcing a character pack to be released 3 years after the last expansion just feels like a scrapjob.

D1 remake......in D3...is gonna be a moment to remembered too.

Financially it makes sense for these companies. The last decade full of studio closures and failing AAA releases has without question led to this. I also imagine the insane success Hearthstone had, despite being a pretty small project, changed their priorities.

The practice of buying a single Character (not a expansion) , that should have been in the game already and the witch doctor is no different. Next they're going to have you buy the all the other classic D1/2 characters. Shit might as well make the prime evils character you can buy, shit make them pet cosmetics.

Why should it "have been in the game already"? It also seems laughably early to declare its no different from the WD

Diablo 3 isn't good Diablo. It's a shallow game without trading. It's in name only at this point.

It's no more "shallow" than any of the other Diablo games, its fine to not like something without busting out some no true scotsman bullshit

It's Cabbagehead, he made his intentions in this thread very clear from the start

Like going into a Burger King to yell at people enjoying a burger

It's Dragon Punch, he wants everything to be sunshine and rainbows. When folks shouldn't encourage the practice of buying DLC characters. That should have been in the finally game.

Why should it "have been in the game already"? It also seems laughably early to declare its no different from the WD

You're naive, the WD was supposed to be the replacement for the Necromancer. Do you even know what a WD does?

Somehow I blame Activision.

The only thing that I like about this was the new Overwatch 3v3 mode. That might be super fun. The HS expansion was expected and I'm so bored with the current state of the game that I need to see the entire set before I care about it. SC2 and HoTS I have no interest in. Diablo is a hot mess.

disappointment aside is Diablo 3 a good game nowadays?

played the first two a lot back in the day but never played the third one due to a combination of being upset about the art style, the hostile attitude towards mods and some pretty tepid reviews

worth giving it a go or should I continue to not bother?

I don't really see having to buy the Necromancer as some anti-consumer practice that some of you are trying to push off. D3 was never a free to play game with earned unlocks. They're giving the D1 dungeon and other new areas for free also.

Not sure if you have ever read one of his posts before today, but that is absolutely not the case.

How is the Necro something that "should have been in the game already," outside of you just wanting it? And if youre using the argument that the WD is the same as the Necro, then I'm not even going to waste my time here.

It's not an expansion though. It's just DLC.

Where did i say anything about it being an expansion?

So, basically Diablo 1 coming back as a Rift of sorts, redone in this awuful artstyle.
3 new areas for free(?) in some upcoming patch.
Necromancer, just the class not an expansion, probably like $15-$30 coming next year.

BWAHAHAHA, can't believe I wasted 80 minutes on this.

There's an option for the Diablo 1 part that allows people to put it back into it's old art style and gameplay style where you can move in 8 directions.

Necromancer page said:
Q: What will we get as part of the Rise of the Necromancer pack?

A: In addition to unlocking the Necromancer as a playable character, players will also receive an in-game pet, two additional character slots, two additional stash tabs (on PC), a portrait frame, pennant, banner, and banner sigil.

Holy shit. A pet, stash tabs on pc only, a bunch of useless trinkets. That's it. I don't normally get this angry about game announcements and it goes against everything I preach to people, but Blizzard can absolutely go fuck themselves with this.

I'm going to go play Diablo 2 now, and if the future of Blizzard games is character packs and microtransactions, I'm out. Already told them how I felt in that survey, obviously there's enough cash cows for them to milk.

And no, I do not care how big the budget was for the game. AAA developers need to rein in bloat they have.

How the hell can you say that? Jesus, After buying D3 and RoS, how much money have you spent? How many free new items, areas have you receive? D1 in Diablo ? Free. Two new area? Free. You crying because you have to pay for one caracter? If the concentrate their time on a single caracter rather than working a new expansion, why not? Its not like its going to be 40$ like RoS jesus. Im expecting a 20$ , if its not less. At 40$ i sill whine and buy it. At 20$ its a no brainer. 15$ would be the sweet spot.

How about you answer the question as opposed to lobbing out insults to dodge it? Why should it "have been in the game already"?

Because reapers of souls would have been perfect to introduce it. Not after the fact, espeacilly with it not accompanying some kind of expansion. It's just by it's self like what? try harder to suckers people in with the past.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Exactly. Last year was practically nothing compared to this.

Only last year they actually had way more announcements of substance.

Given that those had all happened last year (while so little occurred with D3), while I personally wasn't expecting D1/D2 full-on remakes, I would have thought they'd put a little more effort into things.

To have a separate 'paid' necromancer pack is....underwhelming to say the least, even if it is in part due to (maybe) starting work on D4. Ofc, it depends on the price, but imo, anything over 10 is laughable, and even that is pushing it.

And a D1 rift, while cool in the nostalgia sense, isn't really anything 'of substance' that's going to give D3 longer legs, relatively speaking.

Im expecting a 20$ , if its not less. At 40$ i sill whine and buy it. At 20$ its a no brainer. 15$ would be the sweet spot.

.....What am I even reading?

If you wanna compare content in the 'necromancer pack' compared to RoS, you're overpaying at 20 dollars.

Like...significantly.

Wanting everything to be "sunshine and rainbows" is probably better than melting down over paid DLC in a video game, or lashing out at others for encouraging the practice.

They've always said that the witch doctor doesn't replace the necro just like the monk never replaced the paladin. Stop making shit up.

Diablo is expected to be the headline announcement at Blizzconn 2016, which makes sense: 2016 marks 20 years since the first Diablo game came out.

Most of the speculation points to the release of Diablo 4, which would be arriving four years after Diablo 3. There’s plenty of evidence that suggests this could be the case, including a mysteriously misprinted four-sided Diablo die included in the Blizzcon 2016 Goody Bag that spells out 1-1-4 when rolled in a certain way – that’s the day Blizzcon starts. - trustedreviews

- New Character for Overwatch
- New map for Overwatch
- New Hearthstone expansion
- 2 new heroes for Heroes of the Storm
- New pirate thing for Heros of the Storm
- Diablo 1 and Necromancer (paid DLC for Necro) in Diablo 3 RoS
- DeepMind is making AI to be good at Starcraft so pls play Starcraft 2

This is REALLY bad. You know your show sucks when the most significant announcement is a hearthstone pack (something they don't even usually do at Blizzcon)

They shouldn't have spent the money on an entire convention if their content is THIS bare bones. I understand the biggest draw is the esports scene so renting out space to just accommodate that would have been better. I feel REALLY bad for people who bought digital tickets or went their in person to see some cool stuff.

Edit: Like, all this could have been just some announcement on their webpage except for Hearthstone expansion.

huh?

they announced LOE at Blizzcon last year and(not 100% sure on this since I started playing right after it came out) I think they announced GVG at Blizzcon the year before

They can say whatever they want, fact of the matter is the WD was and is the replace for the necro. Never said anything about the monk being the replace for paladin. Two different characters.

Got it, theres no reason it "should" have been in the game other than you for some reason think it should be.

Give Path of Exile a try. Game starts off slowly but once you get to mapping and your build is working the game feels awesome. So much customisation with your builds and a really interesting currency/crafting system. Its also free to play with only cosmetics for sale, so if you dont like it at least you didnt spend any money.

I don't want to be mean but... Do you know how big Hearthstone is and how much money it makes for Blizzard right now?

Priorities were on point.

Heroes of the Storm taking so much time though, THAT was a mistake but I still get why they spent so much time on it because it is at this point the least played game they talked about today so they need to draw attention to it however they can.

I play hearthstone and yes I know how big it is, I still don't think he should be chopping lore on center stage.

Don't understand the issue. People buy the products they want to buy, video games or otherwise. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

As far as I'm concerned, and others have already mentioned, Blizzard is still a top five developer, but their way of developing games probably just isn't for me anymore. They're likely done with making single player story content. It really doesn't make sense for them anymore because of the competitive space, especially when it comes to PC.

I just think it's the natural evolution of business. Gaming budgets are so enormous these days, which means you need an unrealistic amount of sales in many cases to even break even. If you don't get those sales in the first week or two, most likely you never will and that project that costs tens or hundreds of millions can sink a company. Add to the fact that we nearly have infinite choice as consumers for entertainment and companies are having a hard time getting the sales they need.

So for Blizzard, the games as service model makes sense. They get a steady drip of revenue for their newer titles. I imagine the amount of money they get these days for SC2/D3 is a rounding error.

D3 and RoS together have sold 30 million copies.

They can say it's not a replacement for the Necromancer but it does resemble the necromancer a lot from its poison abilities to summoning. It's very similar to how the Crusader is not the Paladin but it uses Paladin abilities. Like he has haunt and shit.

While I enjoy POE, it just feels "janky" compared to D3, especially in terms of animation. Similarly while I enjoy the builds being locked into one feels like a step back from D3's fluidity.

So everything is fine and everyone is okay with this shit? such a wishy washy community.

Other's do this it's fire and brimstone but Blizzard? yeah it's okay. That basis is heavy.
