oh and another new patch for WoW

welp, probably the worst Blizzcon for me.

// Mod Edit:

There was a lot of arguing about what was and wasn't shown at Blizzcon, so I've done a round-up and added it to the OP to help facilitate the debate:

New Games:
- No new games were announced.

Hearthstone:
- Hearthstone's newest expansion, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, was announced. It has 132 new cards, several new mechanics, and a new play board. It releases in December.

Overwatch:
- Sombra (a new hero) and her cosmetic Skins and will release in November. This coincided with a two new animated shorts.
- A new map called Oasis (Control mode) was announced, and will release in January.
- A new selection of modes known as Arcade have been announced for the game. This includes:
-- A new map dedicated to arcade modes called Eco Point: Antarctica. It's smaller to fit the smaller player count.
-- A 1v1 dueling mode that's a best of 9. You get a random hero (that's the same as your opponent's) at the start of each round.
-- A 3v3 elimination mode where if you die, you die, unless you have a Mercy to res you.
-- A new Brawl playlist that features the most popular previous Brawls.
-- A 6v6 no limits mode that works like Quick Play used to.
-- You can get three loot boxes each week (one every three wins), and a loot box for playing the new content once.
-- This releases in November.
- There is also a new cross-over event with Heroes of the Storm where you earn a new Genji costume, spray, and avatar.
- Overwatch is getting a new eSports league.

Heroes of the Storm:
- Two new heroes were announced:
-- Varian Wrynn (Who is the first multiclassing hero in the game).
-- Ragnaros (Who has a unique fort takeover mechanic).
-- Zul'jin was also heavily teased as the next hero afterwards, though not formally unveiled.
-- The first two hereos are releasing in November and Early December respectively.
- A completely redone version of Haunted Mines was revealed, and is returning as the game's twelfth map, coming in November.
- They showed off one of the new weekly brawls that they feel illustrates how different they can be from the core game.
- They're redoing how account and hero leveling works so that it's both much faster, and gives you way more rewards.
- Hero League is becoming a solo queue, while Team League now accepts parties of 2, 3, and 5.
- They announced they intend to make PvE content similar to Junkenstein's Revenge for Overwatch, but that they don't have a timeline for release.
- They're redoing the stats page to show vastly more stats about how you are performing relative to both yourself and other players.
- Hero swaps in drafting are being added to the game.
- Clans are being added to the game, and have their own ranks, advancement systems, and tournaments.
- The way ranks work is being rebalanced for better competitive matchmaking.
- Blizzard voice chat is being integrated into the game.
- They unveiled a redesign of Kharazim (the Diablo 3 Monk) and teased several others.
- The party finder is being overhauled so that you now queue up and are matched into a party with people based on role and skill level, so that it's easier to find a consistent party to play with if you're normally a solo queuer, but don't want to be.
- Map rotations are being added to the game so that only 6-7 maps will be available at a time, but this will be rotated three times a season, so that you get to see individual maps more frequently.
- They're holding a huge new promotion event starting November 15th, where if you play 30 games with a friend, you get five free heroes and new Genji cosmetics in Overwatch.

StarCraft 2:
- The final three mission set of Nova's campaign is being released in November along with a supporting comic.
- A new co-op commander, Alexi Stukov, is being added to the game.
- Two new co-op missions are being added to the game:
-- The first is Miner Evacuation about escorting civilians.
-- The other is a reinvention of Left 2 Die to fit with the co-op commander system.
- War Chests are being added for StarCraft e-Sports seasons and essentially work like Dota 2 compendiums. You get a bunch of rewards up front and unlock new ones as you do things.
- There is a large collection of new Weekly Mutators coming to co-op mode.
- There are also seasonal events coming to co-op mode.
- Finally, co-op is getting a new leaderboard system.
- A variety of new Arcade features were teased but not announced.
- A new custom tournament mode is coming.
- StarCraft 2 will be getting a Watch tab similar to Dota 2 where you can watch games live.
- They unveiled balance changes for around 15 multiplayer units. These consisted of:
-- Some units are getting complete unit redesigns like the Cyclone.
-- Other units are getting new abilities.
-- A lot are simpler balance changes like damage number and range changes.

Diablo 3:
- The Necromancer class is being added to the game in the second half of 2017 as paid DLC.
- A new 16 level rift that recreates Diablo 1's general progression structure and level design is being added to the game:
-- It uses Diablo 3 art assets with a pixelation filter, along with music and UI changes to look more like Diablo 1.
-- The four primary bosses of Diablo 1 are being added (these actually use new art assets and are newly designed fights in general).
-- It has a eight way movement gate and by beating it, you are rewarded a new gem and helmet transmog that is meant to evoke the wanderer who turned into Diablo in Diablo 2.
-- This goes on the PTR in November, and live in January.
- Two new zones are also being added as explorable Adventure Mode areas. We don't know much about them.
- The game is also getting a new crafting inventory to hold all your crafting materials.
- There will be a new equipment and build manager to help you switch between builds and equipment sets much more easily.
- Season are being added to Diablo 3 on consoles.
- There is also a new feature called Challenge Rifts being unveiled today (as in, after the time this post went up). It's a new type of rift that excludes your Paragon levels, item stats, augments, and other bonuses so people can compare on a more even level.

World of Warcraft:
- I'm just going to copy MMO Champion on this one.
- That said, they essentially unveiled patches 7.1.5 and 7.2 with a teaser for the patches aftewards. Both patches are gigantic.
MMO Champion said:
http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/6085-BlizzCon-2016-World-of-Warcraft-Legion-What-s-Next

Patch 7.1.5
  • In the past, the team has had large monolithic patches that have anchored the entire expansion.
  • A patch like Patch 6.2.3 was very effective. The team wasn't trying to add a ton of content, Moose Mount, Valor Points, Timewalking, and other things.
  • Patch 7.1 is a good example of a medium sized patch.
  • Patch 7.1.5 is Legion's first small patch, similar to Patch 6.2.3 in size. It will revolve around systems, new rewards, and evergreen content.
  • Pushing out a smaller patch allows the team to give us some new content faster.
  • Patches should be designed to be broken apart into multiple pieces, so that if one piece isn't ready, it can be removed and the rest of the content can be released.
  • Patch 7.1.5 will have Mists of Pandaria Timewalking, with six dungeons.
  • Timewalking will probably only ever be updated for the expansion before last. No one is excited about going to Warlords dungeons right now.
  • Patch 7.1.5 will also bring back the Brawler's Guild! It will come back with dozens of new bosses.
  • There will also be a new type of battle that can occasionally occur, called Rumbles. These spawn raid level bosses that will pull in all players who are waiting for their turn into the arena. Everyone can share in the rewards.
  • A new currency is being added, earned through your brawls. It is spent on shared benefits, such as a graveyard that lets people respawn at a graveyard next to the fight area.
  • There will be shirts and a Basilisk mount as rewards.
  • New micro-holidays are coming. These might last a day or two, rather than a week or more. These are part of building a living word.
  • Jan 22 - An'Qarj Remembrance Day.
  • These holidays won't have any pets or mounts that would make you sad to miss out on the event.
  • Volunteer Guard Day - You can patrol the city and keep it safe from NPCs that attack.
  • Hatching of the Hippogryphs - You can get a baby hippogryph that can perch on your shoulder, no battle pet or anything.
  • Boat Day - Like Spring Break for Azeroth.
  • Patch 7.1.5 will also update Blade's Edge Arena. No gameplay changes, just updated visuals. Arena will have a built in voice announcer, will call out some events.
  • Patch 7.1.5 will also bring lots of class updates, allowing the team to make larger changes to classes rather than just number tuning.
  • The team looked at all of the talent rows, there are some talents that are never worth considering. These talents may need tuning or redesign. The talents that 98% of players are taking may just need to be baked into the spec.
  • This patch will also allow the team to look at secondary stats to make them a little more balanced, so that anything but one specific stat isn't useless. If an item has a higher item level, it should usually be an upgrade rather than having secondary stats make it a downgrade.
  • The team is also going to try to improve the feel of the classes and add some utility to classes that had a little bit much pruning.
  • Only allowing Survival Hunters to have traps was a mistake. Other specs don't feel like a Hunter when they don't have traps.
  • Rogues that wish they had Shroud of Concealment will also be happy to see it return in Patch 7.1.5.
  • Patch 7.1.5 - Artifact Knowledge catch up mechanisms, purchase levels without waiting up until Level 10 or more.
  • Patch 7.1.5 is going on the PTR right after BlizzCon.

Patch 7.2 - Tomb of Sargeras
  • Return to The Tomb of Sargeras, this time it might end differently.
  • Continues the Order Hall Campaign.
  • New Faction.
  • New World Quests, including class world quests.
  • Making our way to the tomb requires claiming a foothold and fortifying it. Build a base and plan the assault similar to Isle of Quel'danas. Players will be able to choose which buildings to build, allowing them to earn different rewards and change the story. Unlock world quests, rewards, vendors, world bosses. Not a linear progression this time.
  • Legion Assaults - Inspired by pre-expansion event. Defend against Legion invasions in the Broken Isles.
  • When a zone is under attack, world quests in that zone are disabled, the skybox turns dark, and the Legion appears in the skies. You will complete a variety of world quests to clear the Legion out of the zone. These count towards your Emissary quests. Once you clear out enough of the Legion forces, you can go after the commander.
  • Once you finish the assault on the ground, you can join a three player scenario (role-agnostic) taking the fight to the Legion ships in the skies.
  • Different invasion content for each zone.
  • Flying returns! - The second part of the Pathfinder achievement is added, no raid or dungeon content required, just outdoor world gameplay.
  • Flying will be unlocked account-wide!
  • Each class will have their own epic class mount in the patch. These are rewarded by your Class Order campaign.
  • After the Nighthold comes the Tomb of Sargeras. Nine boss raid.
  • The Tomb of Sargeras was the Temple of Elune. Venture into underground caverns where allies of Queen Azshara await us.
  • Another part of the Tomb has been sealed since the time of the Sundering.
  • Infernal / Pit Lord type boss will come through a wall and block your path at the start of the raid.
  • A melee variant of the Jailer is the second boss.
  • Naga Brute and Sea Witch are up next.
  • Fallen Avatar of Sargeras is another boss.
  • Kil'jaeden himself awaits us as the final boss.
  • New Dungeon - Cathedral of Eternal Night, 4 boss dungeon, normal, heroic, and mythic+ difficulty, use the Aegis of Aggramar to open the way.
  • PvP Brawls
  • Inspired by brawls in other Blizzard games. A week long event that varies gameplay and lets you experience PvP in a new way.
  • Brawls will be fun and allow the team to experiment with different modes of PvP gameplay. If they are well received they could be added into the regular game.
  • Southshore vs Tarren Mill, Warsong Gulch (cap the flag without requiring your own flag), Packed House (15v15 arena), Winter Arathi Basin (Low visibility due to weather, water frozen), Eye of the Horn (Eye of the Storm with everyone on Ram mounts)
  • Further empower your Artifact, new traits, including a gold border one, three points with utility. Also allows you to put another point into all of your three point traits. 15 new points to be added. More Artifact Knowledge coming.
  • New types of Relics are coming, modifying two traits!
  • Patch 7.2 continues your Artifact Quest Line, allowing you to unlock the previously mentioned new traits.
  • You will also be able to unlock another Artifact Appearance. This one will recognize solo player skill, mastery of your spec. Inspirited by Anathema and Benediction or the Warlock Green Fire quest.
  • Guardian druids get a werewolf-bear style skin!
  • Warriors are finally getting their flail weapon appearance.
  • Patch 7.2 will retune Heroic and Mythic+ dungeons, both difficulty and rewards.
  • Karazhan will be broken into Upper and Lower sections, queueable random heroics, Mythic+ as well.
  • Court of Stars and The Arcway will also become queueable.
  • New Keystone affixes are coming.
  • Patch 7.2 - "Soon". Coming to the PTR after 7.1.5.
  • Patch 7.2.5 coming after Patch 7.2.

Argus
- After Patch 7.2 we are going to Argus

OP Edit : Thank you Mod.

Pretty much, at least WoW looks like it has some nice stuff coming though, but 0 new games. I'm glad I didn't buy the virtual ticket this year.

Worst if you're watching at home. I'm having a blast in person.

I'm really happy with it so far, but I also think all the non Warcraft games suck ass, so I'm probably not the best to judge it.

What are you rambling about?

World of Warcraft is getting so much content it never got before it was a longtime seeing huge patches and small patches, packed with content.

Diablo 3 is what i expected to get a new hero class, new updates, armory etc.

All the other games also get updated with new content what did you expect? I mean blizzard had learned there lessons over the years and they provide quality over quantity.

They are not Ubisoft or Activision pumping out games every single year, there games are polished and they keep providing it with updates a lot of developers can learn from.

Overwatch is there latest IP in 17 years of them making games. Also blizzcon be it online or offline is a celebration of blizzard games both developers and fans.

Basically. I rarely care about Blizzcon at all, so the Overwatch news is just fine for me. The benefit of having no expectations.

Also the overwatch league was announced. HOTS also got a new brawl.

The Hearthstone expansion is very exciting.

Seems like if you wanted a big new game announcement it wasn't for you, but there are a lot of small things for fans of their existing games. "new games" isn't the only way to get value from a Blizzcon. The content announced here is awesome and will keep fans of their games busy for a while.

I thought it was pretty good because I wasn't expecting the world when it came to Diablo. Surprised it's even getting a second new character so late in its life.

The only Blizz property I've truly cared about is Overwatch so I can agree with this.

I'll admit its a bit of a down year as far as 'major' announcements go for Blizzard. But as someone who's primary game is WoW, the future of Legion looks fantastic IMO.

The patch content sounds really good, but nothing mindblowing that needed a stage to announce. I would probably be pretty annoyed if I had purchased the virtual ticket.

I slept over at a friend who is a Blizzard nut (especially WoW) and another (who's a Hearthstone addict), and we barely stayed awake after the opening ceremony. The second friend got knocked out at the beginning of the Overwatch interview and the first slept through that one and I woke him up for the WoW one. Lol

Blizzcon 2010 annoucements: One new Diablo 3 class revealed, and SC2 HotS will support mods. And that's it. That was the worst Blizzcon.

Why? I purchase the virtual ticket for both the panels but also the in-game goodies every year.

I love the panels from each game and learning insight on how new patches are made or new content is coming also learning from there mistakes and making it even better than ever before.. Be it even from the cinematic departement is fascinating to see.

Was kind of underwhelmed with the Diablo stuff at first, but if things aren't ready it can't be helped. Also more info has come out, and they're actually making a ton of QoL changes to it. Armoury system etc. I'm very happy about that. And challenge rifts which I think is an awesome concept. Basically the game chooses a random player and copies their setup and the level they just did, then you have to beat their time with the exact same setup. I think it's kind of cool to design a rift to be confined to someone elses setup.

You all forgot that Blizzard also gave permission for Deepmind(Skynet) to absorb your SC2 data to help the A.I. more effectively destroy us in the future:)

The armory is a blessing for diablo..i played numerous of specs. And swapping it around? terrible just terrible and the challenge rifts sound like fun also as for the necromancer it does look awesome love me some Army of the Dead and Corpse Explosions.

2010 was far worse. A single D3 class and some SC2 stuff.. The only other major thing I remember is the WoW: Cataclysm cinematic.

Besides, the 2016 WoW panel was fantastic.

WoW, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and HotS all had good showings. The opening ceremony wasn't great but they have announced a ton of great stuff in the panels. Can't agree at all.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Best Blizzcon by far, hands down

Literally no other convent got a chance against what we saw yesterday

To whoever mod did it, was the title change really necessary? Why don't you just post in the thread instead and state your argument?

Lol no? It had a lot of good shit being announced.

The people that were the most disappointed (and whiny) were, as usual, the ones that hyped themselves up for the impossible. Diablo 4? Pfff yeah sure.
The fact that we didn't get a D3 expansion kinda sucked though, but whatever.

Ive really enjoyed this Blizcon as someone who loves Hearthstone, WoW, Overwatch and StarCraft (and diablo) and the overwatch tournament has been great.

Brazil

Living in the shadow of Amaz
Savage title change.

Kinda childish.

These announcements were cheap and boring even considering the games as services model.

Hell, my gacha games' NicoNico livestreams usually have more content than the shitshow Blizzard put up.
