First downsampled 1080p screens from PS4 Pro (Titanfall 2)

I think you'd have to be more concerned with Microsoft changing their mind the past 3 years than Sony

I never mentioned MS though. Hell I'm on board day 1 with the Pro. I'm beyond excited for it. But lets not pretend that Sony is a company who doesn't at the very least bend the truth on things.

This is not surprising at all. Anyone at this point asking me which PS4 to get between the three models would be insane not to pay the delta and get the Pro.

Double the compute power, SATA III, 1080p shareplay/streaming, quieter fans, opitical out, and a rear USB port, for $100? If you're buying a new PS4 it's the very obvious choice.

Did some Deus Ex: MD direct 1080p comparison shots. Thanks to Omegabalmung9 for the standard PS4 screenshots, which I used from the screenshot thread. Tried my best to get a 1:1 shot of the same place.

Thanks Taker34! Sucks that Deus ex seems to still be using that stupid sharpening filter even in 1080p mode. Either way it's still much clearer than the regular ps4 screens.

Yeah while it looks better than the ps4 version( god looking at the sharpening hurts my eyes), the difference is not that big upon closer inspection:

Nasty sharpening filter is to blame imo. I believe it was DF that said deus ex was the worst ps4 pro looking game and it's true.

Well, I work in CAD/CAM software development and NURBS is one of the backbones of our software architecture (pretty much all CAD/CAM software to some extent). I've actually never heard of any possible application to game development. I suspect that the average use case game designers would be looking at would end up a poor tradeoff in terms of performance cost vs perceived benefit. It sounds (from the linked post) like some hardware/API level support might make it more viable in the future; it's a neat idea.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Deus Ex doesn't seem like it's having too much of an impact, looks like maybe better anti aliasing based on the first shot (around light bulbs).

So PS4P ad 1080p super-sampling... How does it work? Is it just setting games to run in 4K mode and letting the TV and/or PS4 do the work to convert into 1080p?

I believe Richard from DF was saying that Deus Ex is a pretty weak improvement compared to other games. That's a shame :(

Well the IQ is better in the end, even if it isn't too obvious for some. Obviously 900p games benefit the most from the better hardware. I personally also enjoy the fact that I can play Deus Ex without headphones because it would make my launch PS4 sound like a plane. The Pro is whisper quiet and I can also switch to the Dashboard and other apps with zero stutter.

Very disappointing to be honest. At least I hope the performance drops in the hub area is addressed with the pro? The original PS4 version dropped a lot of frames in the hub area.

In the PS4 booth At PAX AUS I saw a presentation up close where a member of the Playstation staff was playing Infamous Second Son and Horizon Zero Dawn and changing between modes. Yeah it did look more detailed when he paused and highlighted the differences although if you already have a regular PS4 you aren’t missing out on THAT much. I really wouldn’t read into these screens all that much especially at 1080P the changes aren’t going to be as pronounced. I’m still getting one because I can do have some disposable income and can afford the upgrade although after seeing that presentation if I didn’t I wouldn’t be all that concerned.

I did not wanna get a 4K tv, but having played Forza 3 at my friends house does complicate things. I was blown away tbh.

For techGAF.... I have a small room where I play my games and my distance to the screen is about 6 feet / 1.80 meters.

Thinking about buying a 49 inch UEKS7000 Samsung. Will I see the improvements of 4K?

My bud has a gigantic room and a 75 inch tv, so it's hard to compare. Any thoughts?

Yes, UEKS7000 is US model UN49KS8000. It's a great TV. If it can fit your room and the price is within your budget, you won't regret it.

Deus Ex's stupid sharpening filter does more to harm the IQ than anything else IMO. PC users can disable that shit quick

I feel like a lot of Mankind Divided's effects do the visuals more harm than good. I have to retract my monitor when I play it because it just looks bad up close.

yea....I'll wait for PS5 to come out, don't see much of a difference for a purchase. Waiting for a much bigger jump.

So are the benefits of PS4 Pro on 1080p screens just a sharper image and less jaggies? Or are there games improving the graphics in other ways as well?

Big difference on a big screen. Way cleaner. And in motion way less shimmering.
But did you mix up the bedroom images?

Oh, OK. But are there developers who are doing more?

Yeah, I know there are a few doing it. The only games I can remember right now with 1080p enhanced graphics modes are Rise of the Tomb Raider and Paragon.

There's a list on the forum somewhere I think two infact one with confirmed native 4K games and one with confirmed day one pro patchs.

Hmm, it would be appreciated if someone could link me to a list of the games with improvements for 1080p screens (and what those improvements are).

Deus Ex should benefit a lot in motion. That's where the aliasing becomes apparent. With stills you already had the temporal AA on standard PS4 that cleans things up.

Based on these screenshot comparisons there won't be a noticeable difference sat across the living room from my TV.

In 1080p barely 10% increase in sharpness (only if a game is rendered at 900p like TF2) is hardly worth the entry price.

60fps might be worth it, but I'll wait until the price comes down and we see games vastly improved by Pro before I'll bite.

I'm very impressed with those shots. If the difference turns out to be this big for 1080p, i think the PS4 Pro is a steal.

I'm saying this as a PC-only gamer. I love PC for a lot of reasons, but hey, i just shelled out €500,00 for a new GPU (MSI Gaming X 1070). That's a lot of money. It becomes even more expensive relatively speaking, when you can get an entire console like the PS4 Pro for a lot less. On top of that, i will probably write that GPU off over four years or so max where i imagine a console to (still) stay relevant longer than that.

For those still interested, i would hope Rockstar releases a ProPatch for GTA V, bumping it up to 60fps. I'm doing a playthrough right now, and god is that game a whole shitload of awesome at 60fps on ultra.

Any frame rate comparisons out there ?

I'm loving the bullshot quality improvement on some screens, but TBH this difference is pretty negligible in some of these screens. I'd be far more interested to learn what kind of improvements in framerate the Pro patch games can offer.

i would buy a PRO day 1 if Dark Souls 3 / Bloodborne would get a framerate bump from the Pro.

Your 1070 is not only significantly more powerful than a PS4 Pro, it'll be more powerful than the Scorpio, a console that will probably cost more and isn't even out for another year. Your 1070 will be relevant long after Sony is back, hat in hand, asking you to buy a new console.

The actual cost of an upgrade to a PS4 Scorpio level fo performance for a PC gamer, asuming you weren't ALREADY at that level, is less than $200, not $400. Now THAT's value :p
