Your 1070 is not only significantly more powerful than a PS4 Pro, it'll be more powerful than the Scorpio, a console that will probably cost more and isn't even out for another year. Your 1070 will be relevant long after Sony is back, hat in hand, asking you to buy a new console.

The actual cost of an upgrade to a PS4 Scorpio level fo performance for a PC gamer, asuming you weren't ALREADY at that level, is less than $200, not $400. Now THAT's value :p
I don't consider my knowledge of all these technologies on a level that enables me to say anything meaningful about your statements. Other than, god I hope you're right! :) I do know i am extremely pleased with the performance of my new card so far. And i thank all GAF-experts on the matter, that have indirectly helped me make this choice.

Still, i'm impressed by the pro-shots posted in this thread. At the same time, i'm kind of shocked about the messy low quality of the standard ones. I hope for console-owners this is the big step up it may seem it is from this thread. I definitely expected less when i opened this thread.

Someone explain this to me. So if I dont have a 4k tv but a fullhd 1080p tv, will I be able to experience titanfall 2 like this? Or does this just go in favor to ppl who own 4k tvs only?

It's definitely a step up from the base console. PC gamers have been pointing out just how bad IQ is on the PS4. That usually makes some gaffers very mad though.

It's nothign a GPU above entry level can get you though, in otherwords, the IQ we're seeing here is somehting a lot of PC gamers have grown accustomed to. And now console gamers likely will too.

Which is good, hopefully it continues to push the envelope.

It depends on the game. Some games will offer options, sone won't. Some games won't be patched at all. In the case of Titanfall 2, you shoudl be able to set the game to better IQ and get that.

The game isn't native 4K on the playstation Pro though, so people wiht 4K TV's will either have to run it at 1080p or upscaling from a higher resolution using checkerboard.

This is why I'm probably going to get one for my 1080p TVs...Selling my PS4 now, it would only cost under 200CAD to upgrade, I just see it as a GPU upgrade.

I don't think Sony is doing a good enough job driving home just how much 1080p will benefit, it's not all for 4K, I've seen a lot of people saying "if you don't have a 4K TV, don't bother".

This is a 1080p output, downsampled from a higher resolution. That makes antialiasing and stuff really clean. So in games that do that for 1080p, you'd see this benefit on 1080p TVs.

According to DF, Titanfall 2 runs at around 1440p and stays there, with minimal(if any) dynamic resolution drops at locked 60.

You'll be able to experience titanfall 2 looking a lot cleaner than the OG PS4. It will obviously max out at 1080p on your TV, but because the internal resolution is still higher, it will be supersampled.

Image quality will be a lot cleaner, it won't dynamically go below 1080p like OG PS4 and if you're playing other games like COD MW Remastered, you'll have more stricter adherence to 60 FPS along with the cleaner visuals.

I came into this thread, expecting a minor difference in IQ. I'm flabbergasted. The difference is huge. Absolutely insane!

We don't actually know what the gpu in the Scorpio will be in terms of feature set and architecture, but at the very least it will have a memory bandwidth advantage and comparable fp32 performance to the 1070.

I don't find either Titanfall image impressive, but boy the 1440p downsample looks far better than the other one, lol. WTF at people saying they don't see a difference?! Wat?

Is there a true 4k TF2 pic in here?

I guess there would be in the PC SS thread.

So a $400 console runs about the same as my 980 Ti / i7 setup w/ maybe a few less bells and whistles?
You could probably run TF2 at 4k at 60fps with close to console settings on a 980 Ti.

A Bound dev has confirmed a whole new lighting system for Pro if I recall?
At least that's something else.

I was just correcting your misapprehension that PS4 Pro wasn't already offering better framerates, better shadows, better geometry, better lighting, better particles, etc. etc. Whether you find particular upgrades compelling is on you. But they are there.
Just for clarification I never said PS4 Pro couldn't or wouldn't offer performance increases or better IQ. My position is that for differences of magnitude (night and day) to become apparent there needs to be more than resolution and performance gains.

Looking at the games right now...I wouldn't really say there's a major difference. IQ being the biggest game-changer.

Both SS and First Light will also have 1080p high-performance modes for the user to select over high-res as well.

Well certainly debatable, and you basically focused on all the games that don't have performance/image quality options and ignored the ones that do. It's also very early and developers are still getting a handle of what resources they will have to dedicate to produce a PS4 Pro patch. If this is the entire list of pre-november games that get patches in 2 months time then yes, I will agree that would be disappointing.
I didn't compile that list but I did responded to it hence my post.

I agree with you though...it is early. I've already said titles in development now, like Death Stranding...have a much better chance of displaying a 'night and day' difference relative to patches for older/just released games.

Development of titles will mature for PS4 Pro 1080p titles over time...I just wish Sony was looking to do that too.

sub native with TAA vs super native + TAA = big difference

You are ignoring the non-equalised settings between benches. This is also made mention of in the DF review of this game on PS4pro and how they had hoped it would also use higher settings from PC when it does not.

Not really. Titanfall is very light on CPU. A CPU costing peanuts can run above 60.

Not sure what the settings are on Pro, PC benches are Very High and DF says it not on par there. I'm guessing maybe a 380x/970/980 can pull off 60fps. Would be a good test to what you need for 1440p 60fps at consoles settings. Seems a $250-$300 GPU would do a $30-50 CPU. You could probably build a ~$500-600 rig to play that 1440 at any point in the last two years.

And I pointed out that there are more than resolution and performance gains. There's better lighting, better AO, better shadowing, better geometry, HDR, more particles, better AF, and more.

How impressive that is to you is of course a personal measure.

It's far harder to notice image softness when you sit a few feet away from the TV and play a fast paced game, then when you inspect a static screenshot that's on a monitor that's close to your face though. I'm really wondering if the improvements offered by supersampling, as cool as I think they look, will be generally appreciated all that much. Even DF people previewing these games don't exactly sound all that excited about it.

Seems pretty misleading to make this claim given the difference in AMD and Nvidia flops.

They're not going to implement anything radically different architecturally from what we have so far. There's no way it'll have a memory bandwidth advantage sharing the bus with the CPU.

And FWIW, you can compare a >6TF AMD GPU (R9 Fury X at 8.6TFlops) to a 1070 now, and that is already worse performing than the 1070.

So, we can definitively say that a 1070 will have better performance by a considerable margin, what that amounts to, especially in Play Anywhere games, remains to be seen.

They're totally different architectures.
Fury X and the 1080 have roughly similar peak compute and the 1080 is the better card by some margin.
