waiting for coven NA announcement.

Any day now!

I need Ys 8 man...

Surprised there hasn't even been a localisation tease yet or anything.

I thought we might be waiting a while so imported it at launch and can confirm it's fantastic. Probably my favourite Ys yet.

(Also no further info on the PS4 version that's supposed to be out next year in Japan - no localisation till that's out, as per usual Falcom rules?)

I don't think XSEED will bother localizing the Vita version until the PS4 one is out so they can do both at once. They're supposed to be the same in terms of content, though, so maybe they'll start translating the Vita version ahead of time.

Yeah, we'll probably have to wait until the game is out for ps4 for any localization news. Might take a while.

Were definitely getting Ys 8
On PS4

I agree we will get Ys 8 but only once the PS4 version is announced. Considering other XSEED games coming out over the next few months (Fate & Akiba's Beat for example) have PS4 & Vita versions releasing side-by-side, that will likely happen for Ys 8 still.

It is a game I am very excited about, so I really hope we will be able to play the game next year in the west.

I'd say Coven is the only one that's uncertain now. NISA could just skip it for...reasons. Hopefully we'll get announcements for Babel/Cladun before their press conference in 2017 :p.

Seeing how Coven is a pretty much mainline developed title for NIS doubt that NISA would skip it. Though has me wondering if they are creating a PS4 version for the West, then they would go and re-release that also in Japan eventually.

Different genre I know, but there are quite a few NIS developed games we didn't get such as Shin Hayarigami 1 & 2. There's also Great Edo Blacksmith. I'd be curious to see how Coven would fit into their release schedule. So far they've released 1 drpg a year. If Babel is a lock for 2017, I can see them also localizing DG2 due to their partnership with Kadokawa. Not sure where that would leave Coven though.

They could do a vita/steam release for it like they've been doing with other games lately. Although a ps4 version would be nice as well.

I'm still mad that they never localized Blacksmith. I liked the concept, the game seems too hard to play through in Japanese for me though.

I feel like it'd be better as a vita/steam combo than PS4 but hey if all three happens I'm game!

Thing is those other games that you mentioned are not really what I would call mainline stuff in terms of localization material. In the West pretty much anything with the "Harada" artwork got released looking at all of the titles that he did the artwork for vs. what was localized in the West. That and seeing how they would be doing a full dub just like all those other titles do imagine that adds a bit of time to the whole thing. Then the speculation of them getting it prepped for other platforms as to not tie themselves just to the Vita alone.

Im not sure what their release schedule is at the moment but they do seem to have things packed if there is Babel and Demon Gaze 2 in there.

Id imagine if they wanted to things could be worked out faster with Coven due to it being their own IP where as Babel and DG2 are Mages & Kadokawa. Where as at the same time would imaging that they do need to speak with them also in regards to what kind of scheduling they have planned in order not to cut into the sales. Though out of those 3 Id imagine Babel will be the one that sells the least.

Thing is if they release it on the PS4 that will be literally the first DRPG on the console which gives them a big advantage sales wise. Where as on Steam you pretty much get forgotten within a week due to just how much shit is constantly being released on the platform, then you have most people just waiting for sales outside of core fans.

While most folks know that Steam Spy numbers are not official at least it some sort of window into what potential numbers look like the following below was taken from a thread here at GAF where someone compiled the various publishers that sell localized JP titles.

Heres NISAs info below.
NIS AMERICA

Disgaea PC - 90.000
Cladun x2 - 13.000
Stranger of Sword City - 11.000
Phantom Brave - 9.000
htoL#NIQ: The Firefly Diary - 5.000
Yomawari: Night Alone - 5.000
Clan of Champions - 1.000

Now when you look at the numbers above, most def I would imagine that the sales of a PS4 version would beat out those steam numbers. Even more so when the doubt of how many of those numbers on Steam were due to sales that went on with said titles.

The one positive though is regardless of the platform the title itself is solid so it should review well. At least with those reviewers who take the time out to go through the whole game as its pretty long. A user who is exceptional at clearing titles quickly gives just clearing the story alone 38 hours. General users seem to be in the 45-50 hour mark. Trying to go through as much of the content as possible can hit 100 hours.

If they do go a PS4 / Vita route would be nice if they add cross platform saving. Though the game already runs on the Vita TV also and still looks great on either. But the extra sharp assets that they would be able to use with a PS4 version would be nice for those who dont have a Vita TV but want to play on the big screen.

One other thing is seeing how they have not made a steam version of their own first party newer stuff has me a bit in doubt now that they would be porting this over to Steam. Tiny games like htoL#NIQ and Yomawari dont really count as the amount of work required with those vs the larger projects are not even comparable.

Overall Id say that the Vita version will still come out most def as they know there is an audience still. Also they will be making their usual wad of cash from LE sales and assets already exist for them to use from the JP LE. Though when it will come out is the question. Example of the LE that was released in Japan below. Only thing missing from the pic is the game.

There are no DRPGs on PS4 because it's a genre with 0 production values, so sticking one on a shelf next to a $90 million Square Enix RPG is a tough sell.

Huh, never knew the bit about the artist. Gives me more hope at least. Getting drpgs on ps4 would be amazing seeing how Vita won't be around for forever. Sales would definitely be on par or better than the Steam versions - at least at the beginning, who knows what would happen after :p. Although seeing how NISA's Q1 is packed and if Cladun/Babel are a part of their press conference, we'd most likely have to wait a while for Coven/DG2 announcements, especially given how they'd probably go for NDGV3 next.

Yeah have zero clue as to what NISA is doing and what other third party partners they are working with on releases. Seeing how they are releasing all sorts of stuff would imagine they have a bunch of titles lined up but like you said where does this go into that schedule is anyone's guess.

Eventually down the road "The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2" for the PS4. Though that comes out on Feb 2017 in Japan.

Im curious if they have the Vita title "The Princess is Money-Hungry" planned also. Since that looks to be one of the titles they use for schedule filler in between larger releases. That one comes out on the 24th in Japan. Though from what I saw in trailers that game looks like it will need a bit of graphical work to get localized with how some of the effects use kanji and stuff.

For Babel I wonder if they are going with that same massive box for the LE again. Seeing how they did that with Abyss.

Falcom localizations usually take ages, for some reason Falcom don't share the assets until some time after the game's Japanese release. I expect usual E3 XSEED announcement for Ys 8 and fall release.

What weird is Falcom's silence on Ys 8 PS4 version. I mean, they have released Tokyo Xanadu PS4 just months after its initial reveal. Wonder what's up.

Its still listed on the official JP Ys VIII HP as 2017.

So guess they just dont have anything to share on it yet. Which hopefully means they are making new content for the PS4 version and will announce that along with the scheduled release date.

That's strange. VGP already sent out some copies and people have them but mine and a few others aren't here yet :S

Oh well..I got World of FF to finish..hopefully Root Letter gets here by Friday.

You asked me the official date, not when specific retailers will start shipping their copies. :p

Not saying you're completely wrong, but going by that logic NISA should never release any PS4 games.

But they have been making Steam versions of all their first party newer stuff on Vita? Everything that's being localized is also being ported. They will not release Coven as a Vita exclusive, that's for sure.

Now when you look at the numbers above, most def I would imagine that the sales of a PS4 version would beat out those steam numbers. Even more so when the doubt of how many of those numbers on Steam were due to sales that went on with said titles.
These are pure digital numbers and the newer NISA games didn't have deep discounts yet. I'm not convinced numbers for a digital only PS4 release would be significantly higher.

So, upon logging onto Twitter today for the first time in a few days, something weird popped up:

https://twitter.com/JH_BOOS/status/795287386569768960

RT of you want to see a #PSVita version of @CM_Games' Morphite!

Sure, game requests from these Vita-focused channels are normal, but I noticed the developer in the replies:

@JH_BOOS I bet we could get @blowfishstudios to port it

For anyone who missed the news, Blowfish Studios (Gunscape) are porting The Deer God (by Crescent Moon Games) to Vita/PS4 next year. Apparently what kicked off this interest in a Vita port was a comment which they replied to on Screenshot Saturday:

https://twitter.com/CM_Games/status/795275812085895169

So, if you're interested in a rather neat looking 3D-Metroidvania, hit them up on Twitter.

Isn't today Sunday where you live as well? Also, judging by how they ignored my previous recent tweets, I guess we'll know when we know.

It's 1 AM actually! And yeah, I saw your tweet - maybe they didn't reply because they'll have news soon aka today :p.

Aren't we supposed to get news about Tokyo Xanadu sometime in the near future though?

Was supposed to be in October...and we all know how that went.

I have a lot of exciting stuff to talk about with you guys that is Vita related :).

The first thing being I will be having an interview with David from Hailstorm (Claire: Extended Cut)! It will cover a lot of stuff and I will be sure to ask some Vita related questions during the discussion (porting process, how audio files work on Vita, ect). If you have any questions you want me to ask him, let me know!

Also will be publishing my reviews on many Vita games this week; Adventure Time, Oddworld Strangers Wrath, Darkest Dungeon, My Name is Mayo and more. Very excited to finally get my Darkest Dungeon review out this week, as sadly that one is taking a long time to write up. The month of Oddworld will start tomorrow with a post covering the history of the Oddworld series.

Going to be very busy this week, so hope you guys enjoy my content :D!

You can ask about a sequel or if he will work in more horror games , also what he thinks about movements like limited physical editions of indie games post mortem. What's the future of his games in the vita platform and how well did Claire do in comparison with other platforms. I'm looking forward for the interview!( of course these are just ideas you can discard it all if you want as well)

I'd also be interested if you could get a bit of info out of him on how the game performed on Vita; whether they have future plans for the platform and indeed what they're working on next!

Ys VIII is at 3000 JPY.

Buy it, you bastards.

inb4 lame excuse of not knowing moonrunes. Knowing moonrunes has been mandatory for owning a Vita since last year. Get your ass hauling.

That is news to me.....I only know English, minor Sign Language and very limited French :l.

But I'm glad the game is on sale and I hope people get it :). Is this the new Ys game or MoC? If it is the new one, that is one heck of a solid deal!

RK128

You can indeed say that because it's true!

:). I'm just happy the game is running well, as I would love to play more Zelda like games on Vita. Adventure Time has scratch that retro-Zelda itch currently, so hopeful Oceanhorn can continue that once I wrap up Adventure Time in the next day or so :D.

Dropped my Vita hmph. Like 2 feet on solid floor.

No damage...things are built well. Working fine.

Maybe I should buy another one just in case :p

I dropped mine about 8 feet down onto ice one winter, it skipped off the corner and slid on the analog sticks for about 20 feet. Aside from where it hit the ground after the fall, and a slight wear from friction of the slide on my analog rubber, it's perfectly fine. OLED model.

These puppies are rock solid.

I also dropped my oled off a kitchen island onto a tile floor. Put a small dent in the metal on the outside edge, but has worked fine for years since. Dropped a 3dsxl off the same island (closed no less) and shattered the screen...I should probably stop charging stuff on the island.
