UK's pornography censorship goes back to stone age

Not that I agree with the banning of it, but there are studies showing that the proliferation of (more extreme) porn, and the ease of it's access has lead to problems with young people and their perception of what is a healthy sexual relationship.

That is a problem which, in my opinion, would also be fixed if we stopped molly coddling children and introduced them to sex education earlier and spoke to them about it and didn't hide it away in the cupboard. Instead most kids learn 90% of sexual knowledge from Porn and another 9% from stories from their mates.

Banning stuff ain't the resolution to this problem.

And thats probably due to lack of education and discussion of such things being seen as taboo.

I think it's more down to more extreme acts and the expectation that brings for young males, I am the father of a 19 year old daughter, so I can sorta understand the point.

VHS to DVD - powered by the porn industry
HD-DVD fail - Blu ray prevail - powered by the porn industry

Conservatives block porn - Labour win next election - powered by the porn industry

As a biased Scot I prefer

Conservatives block porn - Scotland finally votes yes to independence - powered by the porn industry

Yea it's kinda true.

Although I think just having the good ol' talk with parents might help to alleviate those misconceptions, of course it would require an update to the "birds and the bees" talk.,

"You see son, when a man and and 5 of his friends finds a girl attractive and the girl herself is consenting, they perform a bukake....."

You remember that stereotype where England have a massive stick up their ass?
That's funny, I've always heard people joke that its Americans who are incredibly sexually repressed. Don't a lot of American schools even freak out about sex education? Only religious schools in the UK are obtuse to this but they still have to do a minimum and I've never heard of anyone being taught abstinence.

Anyway, this bill is a bunch of bullshit but its what you get when people just vote for the Conservatives because it's 'what we do' or because of stupid ideas of nationalism or 'usually I'm not a Tory but we need to do something about this here economy!'

I mean, between the UK and the USA its hard to be positive about much news these days.

When I read stuff like this as a German, I suddenly wonder if the Brexit isn't so bad after all. I don't need such tendencies in my EU.

And I'm glad that the CDU under Merkel isn't such a batshit insane cesspool of conservative hardliners.

Just had another read of the article.

I think standard stuff will still be available. I also think privately made stuff would be allowed like amateur stuff.

Also - it would NOT be a criminal offence to view things blocked by the BBFC - only for the websites streaming them etc...

So once a work-around is discovered it's fair game

Care to elaborate

I think I can put forward a good argument against pornography, but given the apparent different view I have on the issue compared to the majority of GAF, doing so would be time consuming.

So no, I will say however I see little value and no justification for porn.

As long as I can ask my ISP to turn off the filter for me like I had to do for my 4G phone connection thats fine, but it's still really fucking shitty.

Looking at the rise of numbers of people that have porn-induced illnesses, it's probably for the best.

I think such a claim would be best backed up with a "show the receipts". Also examine said receipts to make sure terrible sex education isn't playing a part in that.

Anecdotal "parents are saying the teenagers are out of control" are not receipts.

Also while I posted this on the first page, I'll post it again. Those with a bee in their bonnet about porn and teenagers would be best to watch this

I left a few of those behind for future generations.

Thinking ahead. You have the right idea.

Although I will say young people have it way too easy these days, go to any search engine, type in keywords and you're on your way to fappsville.. Back in my day we had to hunt for it, and when you were lucky enough to find it you didn't have the luxury of choosing - you fapped to what you were given, animals, hentai, bush/no bush it didn't matter

Protip - pick up the daily sport - put it inside a reputable tabloid (
LOL
) - take it to counter.

Buy it with no embarrassment

No one cares so this will go through without issue.

The general population are so apathetic that they wouldn't dare protest about censorship in the guise of porn.

As a Scot yes. For too long we're all sat up here looking at what the toffs in London are up to and seeing it affect us. Would be nice to be a small independent outward looking nation that can look on and comment and know this batshit crazy shit isn't actually the law in our land... One day.

More like too embrassment to protest.
Daily Mail would love it, photo of protesters with headline "perverts"

Scotland pushing through another referendum on the back of wanting to watch porn would be the most hilarious thing a country has ever done IMO

I fully support that notion

I hope at the very least the party states where they stand on this. It can really best be summed up from this quote from the OP article

Even some who back age verification questioned such strict censorship. “It’s mad that we regulate such material that aren’t even criminal acts,” said Prof Clare McGlynn, an expert on pornography laws at Durham University and co-founder of the Centre for Gender Equal Media.

“If we are regulating things like menstrual blood or urination, that’s detracting from a focus on what I think is really the harmful material, and that would be material around child sexual abuse, but also around sexual violence,” she added.

It plays into the Internet spying bill the Government recently voted in favour of. They basically want control over your life and what you do in your own home. At least the SNP voted against that.

So I'm gonna have to use a VPN just to get my freak on? FFS.

Joking aside this is a blatant and appalling attack on freedom of speech, and a very worrying trend. Not really surprising coming from Dear Leader Theresa May.
