DF: Dishonored 2: PS4/Pro/Xbox One/PC Graphics Comparison + Analysis

DF:
Is the ps4pro footage running in 1080p mode or "4k" mode during the side by side comparison at the end?

Well you could cap the frames to 30fps on PC and enjoy the best image quality and settings. Should be able to hit 60 but this isn't the first console game to bounce around and have trouble updating at 60.

I played it on my PS4 Pro at launch and commented that it didn't look that great, wasn't even sure if there was downsampling.

I love my PRO but for a 1080P user this is not acceptable. I hope the bug will be fixed ASAP. Not buying the game without supersampling.

Glad to see DF's analysis. Don't think I'm going to play this until December anyways so here's hoping they can fix this downsampling issue on 1080p by the time the next patch hits. If not, at least the framerate is more stable.

That's pretty bad. Developer fuck ups aside, Ps4 Pro needs two OS improvements patched in to protect against developers messing up. When people say what can Sony do? This is exactly what they can do to fix the Pro and stop these news stories and backlash.

1) OS option to run games in compatibility mode which will tell the games they are being played on a non-Pro PS4 and will just play the ps4 version. This is a safety mode in case the Pro version is broken aka World of FF.

2) OS option to output 4K regardless of what your TV is. Right now 1080p TVs can only pick 1080p, so in situations like Dishonored 2, they can't access the 1440p mode. If they could set the output to 4k, they'd get the 1440p mode and their TV would downscale. This would be a safety mode in case developers forget to downsample for 1080p TVs.

I thought that supersampling was an automatic process performed by the console itself. Not a developer choice. I thought it was impossible to not have supersampling when PRO mode runs. This is not a good news.

Some of you all are being ridiculous, the game looks and runs great on the pro. I get the frustration with not getting benefits though, at least it does run better than other versions.

I think they have a big patch planned for Dec, hope something makes it into that.

Yep the game on PS4 Pro looks incredibly clean and runs pretty well.
With PC version having performance issues the Pro is probably the best place to play it right now.

You can maintain 30fps without issue on quite a lot of cards, but not many people want to do that if they have invested in mid / high end cards that should easily be maintaining 60fps at a range of fidelities. If that is how you justify "the best place to play" though, each to their own

The PC performance issues killed all enthusiasm I had for this game. It had a perfect window before Thanksgiving, but now I'll be coming home to the chain of FF15, TLG, Gravity Rush, and Nier.

I may just return it and rebuy it at bomba prices in 3 months.

Yeah, loved the original and have this at the top of the wishlist, but not anymore. Much like Batman, I'll only pick it up when they have fixed it, and by that point I will likely be playing other things that will lead to Dishonoured 2 only getting bought in a sale much further than that

Better performance is great and all, but when it comes down to it: the game is just damn good. Better than the first imo and it should be played by as many people as possible.

Arkane dun goof'd. they should have stuck with unreal engine. Should have built the game with UE4.

Will wait for it to be $25 with whatever DLC's come out. DH1 DLC's were really great.

I like it more than the first game so far, so the technical issues makes it more frustrating IMO

Its not.

This entire PS4 Pro launch is a joke.

Half of these games are busted on the pro.

A) This game runs better and looks better on Pro compared to PS4. It also has issues on PC, so unless you have a great rig PS4 Pro is the best way to play the game

B) Lot's of games have noticeable improvements on Pro

C) There are about 3 games that currently qualify as "busted" on Pro

The "joke" is people trying to push some narrative that PS4 Pro doesn't offer improvements to most supported games.

It's interesting that poor PC performance usually gets blamed on software but games on the Pro with poor performance are blamed on the hardware.

Is there any comparison with ps4pro and a budget pc at the same resolution, and visual options?

DF made good comparisons last year with this kind of analysis, they are not doing this anymore.

Who is blaming it on the software? People commenting on problems/concerns of the ps4 pro version of games doesnt mean they put the blame on the pro.

Also comparison with pc is always flawed because pc is a extremely wide range of hardware while pro is equally good or bad for everyone.

Things have changed in the last year or two.

For example, my PC with a 670 ran Dishonored 1 at max settings 1080P 60fps at all times. The PS4 port ran at 30fps with dodgy AF.

Dishonored 2 would run like a bag of dicks on that computer, if at all. It certainly wouldn't match up to the performance you can get from the PS4 Pro.

So the issue with this are for those with 1080p only tv's and a PS4 Pro. In that they are only getting 1080p with no super sampling.

But for 4k tv owners it's an all around improvement on the base ps4? Improved IQ due to higher resolution and more stable framerate?

I don't think this would be a hard thing for them to fix. Just have the game run in 4k mode no matter what. Seems pretty simple to me.

A budget pc with similar hardware as PS4Pro, not a 750ti, like for example i3 with an rx470.

Sorry i did not make it sufficiently clear.

I was hoping they would take a closer look at the PC settings, unless that's coming in a later video. The adaptive resolution options would be interesting to hear more about from someone who knows more than I do.
