HITMAN |OT| Blood Monthly

Guys.. this wasnt really on my radar.

I have 1 game to choose. Had Titanfall 2 on my mind for a while, but this game is $10 cheaper on PSN and ... it sounds like there is a LOT of content.

I play OW, Rainbow 6, and Battlefield so I feel I have more than enough for MP games for a while.

Is this game really enjoyable in terms of level design, finding a ton of secrets, creativity, etc? Is the A.I REALLY bad, or is it ok? (Will they plainly see me doing something and ignore it?)

I hated Absolution because it felt like A.I had super vision. THat got frustrating. I really want something where I can discover a bunch of random neat stuff, and Id love to get lost in a level.

Is it a good combination of puzzle/adventure/discovering stuff?
This is the sequel to Blood Money people hoped Absolution was going to be. The levels are huge multi-layer sandboxes brimmed with myriad ways to take out your targets, as well as a huge amount of additional challenges

The AI is good. They aren't automatically alerted if you're spotted, you'll be asked to leave if you found trespassing, etc.

SA'd the chef. I didn't realize I was one mastery level away on Sapienza from unlocking lethal poison, so I ended up (Paris spoilers)
knocking out Dahlia and getting her poison first, then going down and putting it on the caviar.
Played it pretty slow and safe but I didn't want to get too fancy for my first elusive.

Marrakesh feels like the most spy movie-ish thing I've ever played.

Haven't gotten to Marakesh yet but in Sapienza I got a kick out of
a secret underground lab complete with a getaway seaplane.

Boy, I feel like this would be a great game to dig into for the holidays. I think I may end up going with Hitman over Titanfall. I think Im content MP wise and this just looks like a really content rich game.

I tend to stray away from Single player games these days unless they are top quality. I dont expect to care for cinematics, but the gameplay and creativity of this game just seems so "gamey" in the best way.

The AI is basically smart and stupid at the same time. It's smart enough to thwart some of your plans and make some elusive targets incredibly tense, and stupid enough to manipulate in ways that make you feel smart.

And I would definitely consider this a puzzle game in a lot of ways. Especially in a bunch of assassination challenges and escalations that can initially make you ask how they're even possible.

Sounds fun!

So I could be walking around a level and find something, and use it later on? And none of this is told to me?

Not sure what you mean by the A.I

I vaguely recall the A.I NOT noticing me do something bad in the beta/demo but I wasnt sure if it was an unfinished game at that point. My recollection is blurry, so Im wondering if there are any blatantly obvious examples of the A.I being dumb like that

Pretty much the entire game is finding stuff all around the level and then using those things to eliminate the targets.

There are Opportunities which will basically guide you through a level and tell you where to pick up stuff and how to use it, but you can turn those off and you should turn them off unless you are very early on and want an example of the mechanics in place.

Most of the A.I goofiness lies in the clockwork nature of the game. Guards do technically give up on you to easily and the targets will usually go back to their routes even if something major happens (like killing their bodyguard in front of them). There is also some pathfinding jank but that is kind of inevitable in a game like this.

During the first few months of the game release, you had to guess what action or weapon would alert the guards, but since then they patched it so every weapon or action that can cause an alert has a warning sign next to it, which is especially helpful for new players.

Great! That A.I stuff will bother me a bit, but I think Ill live.

I like the idea of finding stuff and then figuring out how to use it. Hopefully the game doesnt hold my hand and try to tell me. As long as the game is challenging and rewards certain styles of plays, Ill be happy

OK, I think Ill get this game.

Edit: wait, how long is this game for all the content included?

So question for everyone. I finished up the two tutorial missions and am currently on Paris. What should I turn off? I have challenges off, instinct off, and opportunities at minimum. I feel like that is all I need. Thoughts?

Every level has at least a couple of special kills that opportunities don't tell you about. That means, yes, you will find some usable stuff that won't be explained.

I don't know what the AI failed to notice for you, so all I can really say is that the AI follows a set of rules strictly. You can avoid being noticed if you follow the rules, which usually make sense.

Opportunities at minimum should be fine for Paris, since the Paris ones are not that easy to initiate in the first place (I turned them off completely and ended up spending hours on my first run), and it can be a little too easy when everything you need to find has a waypoint.

I'm not sure how many people actually play with instinct off. In Paris you can easily lose track of people - give it a try and see, I guess.

I think the opportunity one is the only big one. Turning off chalenges just prevents them from dinging during gameplay when you complete them, so it's more of a visual thing, never bothered me much and a large part of the game is completing some of the harder challenges where you absolutely need that notification as they can get quite finicky with awarding them to you or not.

Playing without instinct is interesting, but it is also an incredibly handy tool for some of the more creative and difficult kills.

As for the length question above: I would say 8-10 hours if you go through each mission once, but the big draw is repeating the mission and doing most of the challenges. That is why tbe episodic approach worked so good. Try to at least get to mastery lvl 20 on every map as it will unlock some very useful and fun tools you can then use in any mission (well, Marrakesh can be pretty hard to get to lvl 20 so maybe you don't have to do that one all the way)

This will also help you get ready for the elusive targets that pop up basically every 2 weeks.

And then there are the various escalations and contracts, so basically if you do get into the game there is definitely a lot of content there.

If you feel like that's all you need then you're good.

After playing a bit though I'd say having the minimap on default is pretty ridiculous when it comes to information, even more so than instinct. It reminds me of Mario Kart DS where you could practically just play the game solely by looking at it. I'd recommend turning NPC dots on the map off at least, otherwise you can end up with tunnel vision. I turned it off completely when playing Sapienza and it felt like I was learning the level a lot quicker. You do have to be much more careful entering rooms though.

I do wish there was a way to show statuses like Trespassing and Searching without having to turn the minimap on. An instinct without object highlight would be great too.

Buy this. It's everything you want Hitman to be, truly. Although Absolution did have better combat, but worse everything else. This is nothing like Absolution though.

47 is back and not doing that pseudo-grindhouse shit

I have the visual challenges on but in the menu, I have those off to where there is no description, just the image. Instinct off hasn't bothered me yet but I am sure when things get really complex, I will want it back on. I think my plan is to keep them off for the first few run throughs and then turn them back on later.

Question about being targeted when people are suspicious of me. Is there anything I can do besides just running away? I sometimes go from suspicious to being shot at and all I am doing is just standing there. To be fair, I guess the game has to do something and force you to be more sneaky because otherwise you can just walk around with no worry about someone figuring out your costume is a fake.

Oh right, forgot they patched in that option for challenges.

When you are suspicious that is your queue to get out, you can either run and hide, or break the line of sight of the person who is on to you and change disguises.
Note that in some cases you will be found trespassing(I think that now they also patched it in so it clearly states found trespassing instead of suspicious but I'm not sure) and in those cases an NPC will approach you and you can just follow him out of the area and you will be fine.

Challenges still pop when you complete them even when they're turned off, so don't worry about that. You will eventually want to turn them back on, because some challenges can't really be done unless you know the requirements.

To de-escalate from Suspicious status, just get out of range of the suspicious person. Civilians will go get a guard, so don't get seen by that guard when he arrives. Guards will start following you, but if you break line of sight for long enough they'll give up. And changing disguises always works.

actually that would probably be the e3 level right? disguise as every goddamn squeenix character (cosplayer).

Cosplaying as 47, suit only? Dat meta!

I have a small update regarding Pro version as well: we are quite happy about the reception, but it is still being worked. The people working on it are looking into the image quality, HDR and perfomance, amongst other things. Of course, from here I can't promise anything or that the work being done will make it into a build, but hopefully it will.

Nice, thanks for the feedback. Any news on the buggy Terminus Suit not unlocking for some people?

Yeah I just asked and it is being worked on. It's really hard to repro and only happens under certain conditions but we know the cause and it will get fixed. I have no time stamp on the fix unfortunately.

Man I was dead fucking wrong about this game. I hated the idea of big playgrounds and dozens of challenges to increase replayability, but I've spent all yesterday evening on both training missions and had a blast. This game will definitely take away a lot of my time around this Christmas. :)

Yea, I know what you mean. 6 or 7 hours in and I've seen Paris once, trying to get everything in the training levels. I decided against getting it earlier this year and picked it up in the Steam sale. Anyone still on the fence, just do it and pull that trigger.

Jumped on this game from the PSN Black Friday sale can't wait to dig into it soon. Man I've bought so many games this past month.

Dragon Ball Zenoverse 2
Wasteland 2
Pokemon Moon
Lego Batman 2
Pillars of Eternity
Hitman

I've got a PS4 Pro and a gaming PC with an i5 2320 and GTX 1060. Is there any reason to play this on the PS4 Pro over the PC? I've got the physical version on preorder for $32 but $15 for the PC version is tempting.

Your physical version will include the pre-order Requiem pack (White Suit, Silverballers, White Explosive Duck) that was given back in March. That will be sold separately in January as a DLC for those who don't have it. Physical version also includes a physical copy of the soundtrack and a behind the scenes documentary. Those will apparently be free digitally in January for everyone who already own the Full Experience though. PS4 also includes 6 exclusive unique contracts called Sarajevo Six. They have a unique target and story to tell in each of the six game locations. They are really small though and totally not essential to the whole experience. Only the last 3 targets are interesting really. It does end on a high note though. These targets might be released for PC and Xbox down the line but nothing has been confirmed so far. For $15 there is a LOT of content for you to play and you would only be missing 1% of all the content without the Sarajevo Six.

PC likely has better aiming support with a mouse.

You literally can't change sensitivity on console.

It's atrocious.

PS4 also has the Sarajevo Six missions, but there's a chance
may come to PC. Apparently their data exists in the PC version, which is where all of the constant leaks of content/targets/assets have come from.

well I couldn't unsee the 'hint' I saw for the chef target
(poison caviar)
but for me the puzzle was how to do that considering I have almost no unlocks as I just got the game. I only have single clears of paris and sapienza under my belt.

when I was watching UPF on giantbomb, Brad reminded me that you can get what you need by disguising as Helmut and following that opportunity up to a point. I wasn't sure if it was too late to complete the plan but I disguised as a waiter, did the deed, and changed back to Helmut. While I was wandering the first floor trying to find the target (I had just received a message saying he was there) I suddenly received a message saying he was dead. I kinda just shrugged, said 'ok then' and ended the mission. Silent assassin yay.

I will try to do the next ones blind but I'm already behind on them if I want to work on unlocks. Kind of hard to resist looking up hints.

A good thing to try and do is really unlock as much Mastery as you can. The amount of extra tools you get are crucial for many of these targets.

Most of the ways to get SA for some ETs absolutely involve unlocks, as these ETs are for the hardcore fans, they may be expecting you to have these items.

There are about three tools the "pros" use for ETs. Only one is unlocked by default.

For you.
We need to get some user contract sharing in here!

A little something I made for PC now that shurikens are a unlock.

After spending 14 hours in Paris I can say that the overall game is really good, but there are some annoying immersion breaking problems with the AI. Even if no one is looking at my direction and I poison a drink, all of a sudden three people in the middle of a conversation 10ft away from me stop in their tracks and face my direction. It is also a pet peeve of mine when I start to subdue a character and they start to make noise instantly, even when my character hasn't put his hands on that person. I'd appreciate it if they could do these in a way that doesn't seem so arcadey. Have a person plead for help only AFTER my guy grabs him, not when I press the execution button.

Also the randomly cycled audio responses to certain things is a little annoying if the response doesn't make sense in the given situation. Would appreciate a little more handcrafted responses to certain actions.

Bought. Game looks sharp on the Pro but hopefully the unlocked frame rate doesn't move around too much.

What's the optimal settings to make this feel like Blood Money?

You can already freely poison anything as a chef or waiter, which is pretty powerful. Seems fair to balance it by making it highly suspicious if you don't have one of those disguises.

(It's even easier due to a recent update because it's only suspicious for a brief moment now. If you don't get seen starting the poison action, you're good.)

Turn opportunities off completely. If you have any experience with the franchise, you don't need them and they will cheapen the experience.

This game is...fulfilling my ''RPG Townz'' itch like no other.

This is essentially what I wish RPG towns to be like.Detail out the ass, constantly moving, active NPCs and just varied natural feel to the location.

I just got the game and dicked around a bit.First impressions are just pure awe at what the devs have created here.

Real shitty move to lock the bonus episodes behind complete season buyers or upgrade buyers. I bought all the episodes individually, since I own the entire first season how about you throw them out for people like me?

You will get them when the Landslide mission is released when the physical edition launches. They're waiting to offer them when this new mission gets released.

They plan on releasing the Bonus Episodes as a purchasable pack for those who bought the game episodically.

With this being on sale on PlayStation 4 and Xbox one, is there any clear advantage either has over the other or does it just depend on which console I have the space for it on?
