[Spoilers] Resident Evil 7 Demo: "There's More, Right?" Edition

Final demo update released yesterday, has several new areas and the first
monster
. Also had new endings, but then people found a trail of a deeper secret and we followed it, and over the course of 7-10 hours solved it, and got an exclusive item for RE7.

Is there a guide for the solution?

I just finished the demo for the second time and i might have a definite answer on how to finish the last step

i'm about to attempt to finish it a third time.
Tune in here stream if you're still struggling with getting the coin.

i'm the one that originally found out how to get the fifth laugh so i feel like i owe it to you all to find a definite way that works 100% of the time

What's all this talk about a coin? How do I get that?

So far I've gotten the bad ending, infected ending, died, and the true ending.

I think I've narrowed down the trigger as I've been on the same play-through, eventually gave up on it last night, and resumed the same play-though this morning. So went back and replayed the video again, this time opening and triggering all compartments, finished the video, touched the piano, went immediately downstairs then, and it worked.

Please don't be this demo, RE7

Well, I mean, we also have pretty extensive previews of the main game now. I'm sure the puzzles won't be as obscure as what you have to do to get the coin in this demo, and even if you hate the combat, I don't think it will matter since it sounds like you'll have to run/ hide from enemies like 95% of the time. If that doesn't float your boat though, you probably shouldn't buy it, man. I really feel like, with around a month and a half to release, what we see now is probably what we're going to get. None of what I described has me all that excited either, but I'm going to have to buy it, unfortunately. It's RE and I kinda just can't help myself when it comes to this series. :p

As a fan of both classic and action RE, I agree.

I also hate the way it looks. Technically it is a fine game, but the visual style is way too different from previous RE games. Frankly, it doesn't look like it happens in the same universe at all.

I keep reading that there's 10 bullets for the handgun, but I can only find 9. Ones in the attic, one in the bathroom, the shelf before the basement stairs, and the one on the stairs themselves. I also read to get the handgun you have to use the valve, but I get locked into the basement as soon as I pick it up.

I'll admit I was pretty bummed to find out that the demo we were told wasn't actually RE 7 ended up being RE 7. The whole baker family aspect feels really out of place; like it was intended to be another game and they decided to turn it into RE.

The game nails atmosphere and sound though. I think I want to hold off on the final game for impressions from GAF as I usually do when I'm on the fence.

There's actually12 bullets for the handgun. One is in the handgun when you get it, and you have most of them. The one you're missing I believe is in the attic, you need the axe and to break the yellow-taped box and you get three handgun bullets from it.

No, I have those, but it adds up to 9. I didn't realize there was bullets in the gun itself. How do you actually get it, though? I know you use the valve, but how do you get out of the basement.

There's two in the bathroom. One in the drawer, and one in the medicine cabinet.

I played the demo for the very first time, so when you start the tape and go past the kitchen is there a creature in that little room just before the VHS room?

I thought for a brief second that there was something but when I checked it out there was nothing.

Finally got a chance to beat the demo and I enjoyed it, however, it still isn't hitting those Resi notes for me. I don't really know how to feel about it.

I think the fact that this is a very small scale, actual-puzzle-light demo holds it back from being really Resi.

From what we've heard from journos the full game is very different and more expansive.

Getting there...for now I keep dying in the room with that dark gooey thing or whatever it is...I ran in a corner once and saw a prompt to pick up something but it went by too fast, maybe its the doll I saw on the floor ? but no prompt afterwards...no handgun when I get there though so far(just 4 bullets)...I figure I keep hitting it by punching the body bags...? that sent it on his ass once...

This is all before doing the VHS part so far...

You're meant to grab the valve and then go out the way you came in. Keep mashing X on the door to bust through.

For those still trying to get the 5th giggle to trigger on the doll, try playing through the VHS tape until you've seen the ghost a total of two times during one playthrough of the demo.

I played through the VHS tape after the 1st murder site, unlocked the drawer with the lockpick, opened the pot on the kitchen table, and happened to see the ghost.

I played through it again after the 4th murder site, left the lockpick alone, and didn't see the ghost.

I tried various actions (unlocking the back door, etc.) to see if it would trigger the giggle on the doll, but got nothing.

I played through it a third time, picked up the lockpick, saw the ghost again, went back to the doll, and the giggle triggered.

Two dolls... two ghosts sightings? Just a theory. The common denominator seems to be multiple runs of the VHS tape.

Ah damn, headed to that door but it seemed locked for good or something,I will try that but I need to send him on his ass and try and grab that doll first after the valve... or the valve operating will kill it...?

Family man locks you in. If you grab the valve and then try to open the door you'll see him grinning and then it spawns the monster. Put the monster on his ass, and then keep approaching that door to get the X prompt. It takes 2 of those to kick the door open.

If you also grabbed the key then it despawns the monster so when you come back for the doll, the monster isn't there.

People have been confirmed to get the giggle without seeing the ghost at all

My first time in that room, I died. I didn't know I could bust the door down and didn't have the gun or the axe so I was basically defenseless.

I'm definitely on to something. I just did another playthrough on my brother's PS4 in an attempt to get the 5th giggle to trigger for him. I did a near-identical playthrough to my previous one and was able to get the 5th giggle to trigger again.

I'm 99% certain the ghost has to appear during the VHS on two separate plays of the tape (I don't think the spot of which the ghost appears actually matters, but I can't be certain of this seeing as she appeared above the kitchen doorframe during both of my playthroughs). I got her to appear in two spots in the same play of the tape, but the 5th giggle still didn't trigger, which tells me you definitely have to get her to appear in an additional play of the tape. To confirm this, I played the VHS tape until I got her to appear again, doing nothing else, and the 5th giggle triggered.

My initial playthrough can be found here if anyone cares to study it (starts after the 00:38:00 mark). Do as I do (there's some idle moments, so you'll need to fast-forward a few times), and be sure to get the ghost to appear in two separate plays of the VHS tape.

I hope the guns sound punchier in the full game. The pistol you get sounds like a damn bb gun. I understand it hits like a pea shooter but would like for it to sound better at least.

Just like the classic RE games then :p

But seriously RE7 handgun sounds a lot worse than anything else in the franchise :/

Do you think we'll ever get a demo of the actual game? Like, the first 30 minutes after the dinner scene or something.

Yep, was pretty disappointed when I fired the gun for the first time yesterday. Hopefully, most guns in the main game do sound a lot better. Then again, this pistol was immersed in a toilet bowl of blood, so maybe it's defective. :p

Trying to find the information by searching the thread...

I see that HDR and 4K is now supported, does anyone know if it's an actual 4K native resolution?

Also, the game runs at 60fps....?!

After being down on this game ever since the reveal - I finally downloaded the demo (I had already seen heaps of streams) and I walked away fairly impressed.

My interest is now rising....

Running from enemies is fine in moderation. Running past enemies is where it's at in RE, and unfortunately that's incredibly difficult to do reliably in RE7.

Hiding from enemies though? Not what I want to do in any horror game, much less Resident Evil.

If that doesn't float your boat though, you probably shouldn't buy it, man.

Not an option. Resident Evil is my favourite gaming series, and for better or worse, I'm copping RE7 day one.

I agree, thankfully im almost sure the final game will be different (even the graphics), not sure what was CAPCOM thinking with this demo to be honest.

I really enjoyed the demo on VR. However, there is a major problem that I noticed. Whenever you stop on some trash or broken wood on the ground, there is this slight rise in elevation that occurs suddenly and unexpectedly, and then you sort of start bobbing up and down if you stand still as the game's physics try to find a proper footing for your character. It's really disorienting and the only thing that caused me slight motion sickness in the demo.
