Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

I'm really curious if From Software-s next game for Sony is Bloodborne 2 or a new IP.

I'm putting my money on new IP. Sounds like Miyazaki's sick of sequels, so if From are going to make any Souls-likes from now on, I think he's going to insist on not being chained down by one particular franchise or setting.

Plus the original Souls team hasn't worked on a single sequel yet (Demon's -> Dark -> Bloodborne -> ???).

Nice discussion these last few pages - too bad about Verendus. Anyone know what Demonite's been up to?

Knack can continue to exist fine as a mid tier IP in Sonys library.
Plus , they can bundle it in 'famil bundles' (1 game for each member of the household) or part of a triple kids pack during the holidays.

It's good business sense.

What I got out of Supermassive's quote was that they didn't want to be known for exclusives, and we're branching off to multiplatform games, which can mean doing what Insomniac did with Song of the Deep.

I don't think they outright said they've crossed off working with Sony. They did say if they ever did an Until Dawn 2, it would be an anthology series, not a continuation, if I remember correctly, so there's probably a chance. I have to imagine if they do another story driven game, the Decima engine has to be a big pull.

Demonite flew too close to the sun.

False ffxv impressions.

Anyway with uc4, ratchet and tlg being great games, let's hope that streak continues with nioh, gr2 and horizon

You know Nioh isn't 1st Party yeah?

So we're his actual leaks full of shit. I remember him talking up two big budget RPGs one western and the other from Japan studio. I'm guessing the western one was Horizon and the JRPG never materialized .

Have we had any hints on if the Order 2, Bloodborne 2, and Until Dawn 2 are in production? Sony has a good bit of second party relationship AAA money- could we be hearing more at E3?

I expect The Order is dead (as others have noted), I think Until Dawn will be moving forward with a different developer (unless they were able to offer Supermassive a really good deal), and I would bet Bloodborne 2 is in development, probably for an E3 2017 reveal and early 2018 launch. My guess would be that Sony has locked FromSoft into a three game deal.

I forgot who said this exactly, but someone theorized, or maybe even hinted at Climax Studios (known for Silent Hill Origins, Silent Hill Shattered Memories) working on Until Dawn 2; they have worked on a Sony exclusive before, although IIRC it was just a Brain Age clone for the Vita.

That might have been me, but if so it was just speculation. I recently suggested Climax could handle it if Supermassive were moving on, as I believe Silent Hill: Shattered Memories had similar psychological tests which determined how the game played and the things you would encounter. I still think they should go for an anthology format and make the next game completely unrelated, but have Peter Stormare back playing a different character.

Sony is co-publishing Nioh though right, shouldn't it be in the collaboration category kinda?

But yeah, either way hope it's good, and it really looks that way.

My guess...

There will never be a Order 1887.

Until Dawn developers will make something similar, but new IP and multiplatform.

Bloodborne 2 will happen, but without Miyazaki.

Tecmo Koei is publishing in Japan. SIE is the International publisher.

I think Order 1886 sequel will happen, because this: https://gamerant.com/the-order-2-ready-at-dawn-quote/

Bloodborne 2 will happen, Verendus also said this once.
http://wccftech.com/software-three-...core-game-new-dark-souls-like-game-not-ruled/

Those are some mighty big leaps you're making then. That first article is basically what Ninja Theory used to say about Heavenly Sword. It never happened. The second just says From are making something resembling a Souls-like, not specifically Bloodborne 2. Unless Miyazaki's been lying, he has no interest in making any Souls-like sequels, he wants to go in a different direction.

The Order sequel thing doesnt mean much (if anything really), I dont believe its happening

Bloodborne 2 should happen because the first game was a huge success, not because Verendus said it

I'm all for a possible BB sequel, but I'm concerned about its quality, if Miyazaki won't be involved with it.

You know, I was just going through The Last of Us Part 2's trailer again... and I realized...

Naughty Dog could make a REALLY-REALLY good licensed Punisher game. From the brutality, to the action to the combat and basic gameplay and animations. It would be unlike anything else.

If only though...

Can't help it... but, #verenduswasright

There is a JRPG #1 and JRPG #2 after all.

Only for mobile.

STAHP!

Eugh, what a bummer. And not just those, mobile has claimed Doko Demo, Parappa and My Summer Vacation as well. All those really Japanese games that Sony used to put out on consoles in abundance are now shifting to smartphones. Makes me sick to the stomach.

I know it's a really lame thing to care about, but there were a few Sony franchises that had previously been on every piece of hardware they put out - Boku no Natsuyasumi; Gran Turismo; Twisted Metal & WipEout. If Boku is going mobile-only then that one's down (I was sure there was going to be a PS4/Vita port) and Gran Turismo/Twisted Metal won't be coming to Vita (PS4 for both I guess could happen) so they're down as well.

Leaves WipEout as the sole survivor that I can see.

I'm pretty sure he said you'll play them on "PlayStation" "Sony consoles".
Obviously because Sony too realized that the doomsday of consoles was upon them and quickly shifted development to mobile. Watch God Of War and The Last Of Us Part 2 show up as Xperia exclusives! :p

Anyone else feel like we're finally hitting a good cadence with exclusive software with TLG's release?

It always takes Sony a couple years to get going after new hardware launches but now it feels like we're entering that area where devs have a good handle on things and the calendar is stacked well moving forward.

I do think Sony have finally played a lot of their hand now, not many new reveals for WWS to show at E3 and other shows in 2017 and beyond but they have gameplay to show for a lot of stuff like Spidey, Days Gone, Detroit.

Wouldn't worry, they hit beta a few weeks back. It good baby.

Awwww yiss.
Mother fuckin Horizon on track.

The creativity is staggering, to say the least.

It's amazing to see them coming up with all these new concepts and games, without all these sequels.

Man, when are we going to see Sucker Punch's new game. I mean, we've seen a trailer for TLoU: part 2, and that's like at least 2-3 years away.

Yoshida said that they will be more careful in the future, regarding announcing games too early

Seeing how packed Sonys Line Up is, im not even sure if the next Sucker Punch is set for 2018.
Maybe we will have to wait even longer for its announcement

Really disappointed it wasn't at psx. Media wise they've been incredibly quiet.

They're so talented and creative - I'm not worried about them being quiet as much as I hope that they are focusing a lot on mechanics and gameplay. I understand they have a badass creation kit, but I expect that the next round of marketing should really focus on the "play" in play-create-share.
