Still not as bad as pizza cutter kid.

I'll be honest...I actually prefer the changed version of that particular scene. All the fancy magic runes scream "Tales" to me and make what's going down seem like a big deal. I can understand why people would be angry though since Bamco straight up said they wouldn't change the game (even though they should have changed Velvet's garbage outfit).

Had the original landed them an M rating (which I kinda doubt), would there really be any big downsides to it? It never hurt the likes of Persona or Neptunia and Tales is niche enough for its audience to be on the older side anyway. They've been getting 16+ ratings in Europe consistently starting with Xillia as well, so there'd be no change there.

The Neptunia games are actually all rated T except for the PS3 version of the second game (which only got an M because NISA stupidly decided to make the English script more vulgar). Regardless, I don't think an M rating would have really hurt ToB.

It's a shame that Namco didn't keep their promise.

I wasn't excited to play this game, but I definitely feel bad for those who were. It's very crushing for fans to hear news of censorship.

It was rough when Nintendo did it with Fire Emblem Fates. I accepted it, but the experience would have been better if it was just left alone.

I'm really sad that people are boycotting this game because of the (shitty) censor. This is a great game, one of the best in the series. The Tales series is returning to its good form with this game and people refuse to buy it. Really bad decision on Bamco side

I don't think I've heard one instance of boycotting that's worked in games. I also tend to find it embarrassing for it to usually be called boycotting instead of 'I don't like this, so I'm not buying the game like plenty of others.'

People that decide on these changes need to justify their job existence.
It is why they are going to keep happening regardless if they are necessary or not.

I'm sure people that have said they arent buying it still understand that the internet doesnt represent the masses. However I don't fault people that stand by their reasonings to not purchase things even if I completely disagree with them.

I made this thread because the change annoys me, but I'm still getting the game day 1. Fuck I have so much faith I will enjoy this game I already ordered the velvet scale figure

I don't think many people will boycott it. I just really hope they go on the record and comment on why they made the change before the game releases, and if they made any other alterations. If this is the extent of the changes I'll still buy it, I am disappointed though.

Which wound up being the best possible outcome in that case. I don't encourage boycotting this, but I wouldn't pick it up at full price with decisions like the one they've made here taken into account.

Why though? There are so many female pop stars who dress way worse than this during their performances. It's strange that it would be accepted in one place in society but not another.
I think it's mostly that it's a hideous design, lol.

Eh...this censor job doesn't bother me. It won't ruin my enjoyment of Berseria.

Wait, people was boycotting Xenosaga?

Why? Because of the blood censor in III...?

I think it was because of a scene involving Albedo and MOMO in Xenosaga 1. I think it was the scene where Albedo demonstrates his indestructibility to MOMO by maiming himself with a knife, but it ended up being censored.

Though, this was the first time I've heard of blood censoring in Xenosaga 3.

ugh this purchase went from day one CE to wait for steam sale and buy for 2$ and get modders to fix it with mods :(((( Thanks namco

They decided to remove all the blood in the game.Weird since there was copious amounts of it in the Original. This decision basically destroyed the impact of a scene in Shion's past. Like when I first played it, I did not know what was happening.

But Xenosaga is gone. Not sure how that is the best outcome. Though I doubt it was boycotts that got the games canned. More likely they lost people at X2, or the fact that Europe was missing a game, or maybe 2. Don't really remember.

Maybe because esrb gonna give it a rating of Adults Only which bans it from any retailer.

There was no way that was going to happen. I admittedly don't know what Corpse Party is, but I know it manages to get an M rating.

Disappointment aside I think this is a really funny development from what they intended to be the debut of their english dub.

Like they could have chosen any other scene lol. But they chose this one and it completely derailed the reveal.

Nah, the scene in Episode 1 that people got mad about was soon after he blew his head off. It was when he was stealing data from her and the Japanese release was far more child molestery than the edited version we got
(instead of his hand going into her stomach in the edited version, his hand went into her crotch in the Japanese one)
. Yes, that is what people were primarily mad over, because of course many of the anti-censorship people were mad about that more than the other edit.

As far the removal of blood in Xenosaga 3, it was kinda hard to miss. There's a pretty infamous scene that always gets quoted where they removed the blood and basically gutted the scene when it was meant to be violent. That's also not to mention multiple other scenes where they took away the blood and several areas you go through where there's no blood on the floors or walls.

Man, maybe I'm remembering wrong (haven't played it since it came out), but Xenosaga 1 had some pretty fucked up scenes. I'm surprised they even bothered censoring anything. iirc the Captain's PTSD flashbacks were creepy as hell and pretty gory.

Lol, no one boycotted Xenosaga, I was just mocking Namco for their historic censorship of JRPGs. I'm really bitter about it because English speaking fans got fucked hard. EVERY Xenosaga game was censored, and it got more and more ridiculous. The Momo scene in Ep1 was altered for understandable reasons, but then it just devolved into nonsense after that. In Ep2 they decided it wasn't cool to show Junior using a gun on himself in flashbacks, so they changed the revolver model into some stupid looking scifi gun. In Ep3 they removed ALL blood from cutscenes in the entire game. So you get this super exclusive Lady Macbeth scene with Shion where she stares at her clean hands and go "blood... so much blood". Bravo Scamco. Ten years on, you can still go fuck yourselves.

I'm guessing the ESRB was going to give them an M this time. Which is weird because like you said, Xeno 1 and even 2 had some fucked up scenes and they had T.

Ma belle pêche was censored, but man, the censorship made it so much more brutal. Just grabbing his arm and tearing it straight off, then doing the same with his head, dropping it on the floor. The weapons honestly would've made it less disturbing. Hilarious censorship.

Namco still thinks the Tales franchise is mainstream for some reason. Big box retailers aren't going to stock this no matter what rating it lands... especially seeing how it's going to get buried in the glut of Japanese-developed titles being released on the same day in late January.

That release date decision is a bigger faux-pas than any M for Mature rating would have been.

Even if they were to do it, I'd half-expect a smart-ass response like they gave for people's reactions to waiting until just a month and a half before release to show off any of the English dubbed content. In which case, I'd say they can keep it.

She doesn't even mention blood, she just says "Put it back", which makes the scene even more confusing.

Also Ep. 2 censoreship was Albedo blowing his head with an energy ball instead of a gun, not Jr with a gun!

Was it, it's been so long I seem to be misremembering details! Has it really been over ten years.... T_T

Ya the Xenosaga series in general had far too many questionable edits. Whether people boycotted the games or not, there was no excuse for how they went about censoring the games, especially Episode 3. The changes they made to that game will forever sit at the top of my list when it comes to pointless censors. It also makes me laugh every time there's a new thread about censorship and people act like removed cleavage or edited panties are "THE WORST THING EVER!!!!". Nah man, as bad as some of those attempted edits may be at times, none of them hold a candle to Xenosaga 3.

I remember people caring about all of those in decent numbers (or at least being loud enough) except for Xenoblade X. The only censorship in Xenoblade X was the kind that it's either hard to really be concerned about (Lin's base character model when wearing very light clothing), or so minor that no one really cared (a single clothing item out of dozens being altered that most players would never see in the first place). There were some legitimate concerns about localization choices (changing names or acronyms around to make more sense in English but also in a way that removed how they tied into the plot and themes) but those were also quite minor.

I was annoyed at the removal of several voice types for the custom avatars in Xenoblade X, the silent voice type from Awakening and the script variations for the avatar in Fates, but it seems like no one cares about removal of voice options considering the complete lack of outrage...

I'd love for someone to point out the problem with this design because it's just in the middle of the road for post-ps2 tales for me. What I personally don't like is the silly belt thighhigh thing going on with her legs, but everything else is pretty okay.

You could try, perhaps, looking at the design from a female perspective. Empathy goes a long way.

I would love for guys to be able to see the problems with a lot of female character designs like this one, but alas.

Pretty disappointing, the producer shouldn't have said that before being sure nothing was going to be changed. I wonder if that one cutscene really would have affected the rating or if they made other changes as well. I'm not really surprised though, since they censored one cutscene in Tales of Xillia too. (spoilers)

That trailer was posted by Bandai Namco Europe.
Of all the fucking things to censor.... Jesus Namco.
