Just finished to see the movie... Well I actually loved it, and was a surprise to me the fact that there was Italian voice acting! Maybe too many noctions on the first minutes, but was not so hard to understand. Really liked it!, going to see it again in JAP. Oh and nyx is a great character!

Man, I expected this movie to be kinda "meh" but I had a great time watching it while the game was updating/patching. Some real eye candy visuals with a few neat surprises and overall pretty cool characters (though some could use a haircut :3) I found myself quite entertained and hyped to play the game. Perhaps my complete media blackout for the last two months helped?
My girlfriend, who wasn't necessarily interested in anything "extra" to the game actually ended up really liking the movie as well, though she did think it was a little hard to follow at times (chaotic shots during fight scenes)
Feeling pretty good about that gorgeous steelcase plus movie combo purchase, at the moment.

I think the whole "You need to watch this to get the setup for FFXV" part of this film was massively exaggerated by people on here.
The only stuff you need to know from this is "There was a peace treaty, it fell through, everyone died" and the game tells you all of that pretty much right away.
Given so little happens in the film anyway, I'm surprised anyone ever thought it was essential viewing.
When they are in that shuttle thing and demolish and entire skyscrape I couldn't help but laugh. It goes from "We're the magical dudes standing in the way of the baddies" to "Woops, killed a few hundred civilians but I think I almost killed a bad guy and this lady is safe so that's fine."

The failure of the talks was a legendary scene in the first reveal of FFXV, so it was worth it for that. And seeing Insomnia in all its splendor.

freaking loved it. It seems like a mandatory watch.....I don't think I would like the game initially without all of the backstory.
I can understand watching it for that but its still not essential.
The film adds nothing additional that is important to the game though. Nothing that isnt explained clearly in the game that is.

Watched the blu-ray last night before I start the game. Stunning CGI, it really looks awesome and it has some decent action scenes, shame the story is a bit of a mess but the games story seems to be the weakest part too, so at least its consistent.

After giving this a second look (OK...skim), I realized that I really like the world and style here.
There are so many good ingredients in this, but they're just not cobbled together properly! If the pacing was better, if there were more intimate scenes with as much dramatic detail placed on them as the amount of debris in the final third, if the camerawork was a little more stable, the world given just a few more Brotherhood-esque glimpses...this would've been great, no sarcasm intended.
Honestly, if they could drum up a sequel/follow-up set in this world, or just something similar to Advent Children, then I'm all up for it, because I think Eos has that potential and already has that extended media to build upon. Would be great to see something like this at its finest.

It helps entering this with extremely low expectations as I'm sure you did.
What ever you do, remember the fancy bits you liked and don't think about what makes a good movie, and you will likely stay positive on it.

Wasn't really expecting much, but decided to watch this after completing the first chapter on FFXV. which i thought had a very underwelming intro.
I just gotta say, this is a pretty good movie. Especially if you treat it as the bombastic intro that FFXV was sorely missing. Definitely required imo.

After watching how awful Advent Children was, this one surprised the hell out of me and it definitely enhances the experience when playing XV.
I still have a problem with the huge plot hole in the movie regarding Luna:
it's always Princess Luna this, Princess Luna that. But we know she's the Oracle, an extremely revered position in Eos of great importance to the people. But it is not mentioned even once, not by Nifleheim or any news outlets (yet there are many radio conversations in game). Neither mentioned or seen is her healing powers that we see in the game. It's such a glaring omission that cheapens her character's importance.

yeah, i don't know how good this really is as a movie, but watching this after chapter 1 of the game was really good and really fleshed out the world. the movie enhances the game and the game enhances the movie. it's really the best possible scenario
Like others, went in expecting crap and left fully entertained. The visuals and action was great, and this is absolutely critical to see before playing FFXV to see the full picture. I really gotta give a hand to Square-Enix over the entire car on the rooftop sequence. Trying to drive a car up a wall stuck inbetween two buildings? Fucking brilliant action moment.

I watched this today as I've been playing the game and wanted more of the back story. It was decent enough and does help set the world up. Wish I'd watched it sooner.

I watched this twice before playing the game. The first time I watched it, I was left feeling cold; the opening reminded me too much of Starship Troopers with the spidery monsters, the soldiers, etc, and it was difficult to keep track of who's who. But the second time I watched it, I turned on subtitles, and WOW. It's like a brand new movie, and a dramatically better one, for that matter. The storytelling is so much tighter with the subtitles; it's much easier to learn the character names and backgrounds and understand all of the double-crossing and triple-crossing taking place. The bit where the emperor turns on the king gave me goosebumps the second time around. So good.
Also, the voice acting and visuals are top-notch. Great performances all around. I really enjoyed the film the second time I watched it. I recommend that everyone try watching Kingsglaive with subtitles.

Got the game today and decided to give this a watch before playing in order to understand the plot a little better going in. May as well share my thoughts.
So, the movie looks amazing first off, the environments especially. I didn't find the characters' faces to be too uncanny valley, although the King seemed to look perpetually surprised throughout the first few scenes involving him.
The english voices were all over the place tbh. When there was action going, they sounded fine; not great, but serviceable. Pretty much everyone on the empire's side that wasn't Luna or
was a massive bundle of ham, although I kinda enjoyed it to a degree. Everyone else sounded either flat or just off during the calmer talking scenes. Conversations just didn't seem to flow naturally; that scene of Nix and the other Glaives eating comes to mind. As for the action scenes, the choreography and effects were on point.
Story wise, I'm not sure what I'd be missing out on if I'd skipped the movie, but I guess I'll find out. Probably a bunch of plot holes I missed concerning the movie's plot and character motivations. Not sure if I wanted Nix's backstory to be slightly more fleshed out or not. I guess I do appreciate how he didn't get into the specifics of

I finally got to watch it with 2 other friends who had already started 15. It was way better than I was expecting- it wasn't confusing at all and I really enjoyed how it flowed right into the game at the end.
2 things were weird for me though:
1- Crow's lip sync seemed off for the entire movie - wth?
2- the main bad dude bishop guy looks totally different in this movie than he does in the game....!?

I rented this digitally in SD because I wanted to continue playing the game, and I have the BR coming in next week. I'm sure it looks great in HD and will be worth the rewatch because of that.

Crowe dying so early on kinda made her character pointless.
Should've given Libertus another reason to leave the Glaive.

I watched this and the anime before starting up my game and I was bored to tears. It was pretty and all, but I was falling asleep midway through. Hopefully it'll pay off having seen it going into the game.

It's not explained because lol FFXV
But the assumption is that because the Kingsglaive was only formed after Glauca's botched assasination attempt on Regis in Tenebrae that Glauca literally went undercover for years as a member of the Kingsglaive (since all Kingsglaive members are technically foreigners from outside the city limits of Lucis I guess it's plausible) and then came into a leadership in order to get access to Regis etc

Just got around to watching it, clearly disjointed and second half was much more exciting than the first half. So, as a film studies student the movie was a downright mess but as a FF fan, I found it better than expected.
I'd give it a 6.5/10....now to play the actual game.

Also what idiot decided to cast that liberty guy, I thought the dub in general was fine but he has the most inappropriate voice, it belongs in simpsons or family guy or something not one of the main side characters of some tryhard serious movie..

I was expecting to have an outright miserable time with this, but it was actually somewhat satisfactory to my surprise.
Was it Great? No. Good? No. Recommended? No. But I also didn't regret watching it. It was a fairly average prequel to a Final Fantasy game.
This still doesn't excuse the game from leaving out details or proper follow-ups in the narrative itself, which is what I've been hearing. In fact, I think it's a shame that the basis here gets muddied in the game's narrative or lack of fleshing out, if that's the case. The film gives some basis from which to create an engaging follow-up story.
Luna ended up as a disappointment aside from her doing the oddjob "outlandish thing", she doesn't really pop out from the by-the-books sweet princess role. I ended up liking Nyx alright. He's your average smartass action hero, but it worked for the material. The plot itself runs rather messy between the crumbling of the Kingsglaive and the invasion as well, but it was coherent.
P.S. Sean Bean was also perfect for his role, of course.
