Anyone here going for the Coldplay concert?

Nope. I am planning on going to the Sting concert in May next year though. Tickets go on sale from the 15th of this month. I went for the his concert in 2012 at The indoor stadium, and it was a terrific experience

PSA: for the oldies, Bryan Adams is performing here in January. Tickets are not listed on Sistic so it might have slipped under your radars

What are the odds? He's all over the from page of GAF for the last two days and now it seems Duterte is here.

Realistically I would think Singapore would be civil about the whole thing, what would happen if push comes to shove though?

Tsuta Ramen - I tried both shoyu / shio bowls, not impressed.jpg

But the ( ajitama ) egg is very good, one of the best I had in Singapore if not the best. Don't go at lunch crowd , took an hour to quene. For some reasons, the hype never dies but I do not forsee it has longevity in Singapore.

There was Kam's Roast at Pacific Plaza as well which has received a michelin star from Hong Kong. It was decently good but rather pricey for the portion it gives, it slightly more than two times hawker price.

It's hard to find good shoyu ramen in Singapore so I am definitely interested in trying it.

When they offer unlimited voice/SMS and 20GB data at $20, you can bet your ass people are going to sign up.

It is nice to want things.

I just want my 12GB per month of data back.

To hell with Singtel. They were the first to drop it to 2GB and the rest followed.

Is there any places that still sells Wii U and PS3 in Singapore?

Does anyone has a tendency to buy spare consoles just in case the ones you have breakdown in the years to come? Can't have my collection be lying around uselessly.

I have the opposite concern- Running out of places to store my toys.

I legit don't know what to do with my PS3/4 once a new hotness comes out.

For WiiU, try Wargames at AMK central. Saw the Mario kart bundle on the shelves not more than a month ago

This is going to be my last gen of new console outside of portables unless I move out or something. Most Singaporeans live in HDB with limited space, unnecessary stuff such as Video games consoles and others toys have to be limited. That why I am so happy that switch is so small as compared to PS4/Xbone.

You should juat sell your collection or dump them. I have never played my old games once the new ones come out. I sell my old games on carousell when i am done with them.

Yes. I am one of those people who think backwards compatility is a waste of time.

But i agree with the nintendo switch. Ot is very attractive to me because of its portable nature.

For me I'm hoping that moving forward my digital library of PS4/Vita games would be accessible from future hardwares.

Even though just like you bobby, I never played old games... But you never know...

I finally got to visit this city. Nice job, guys, it's pretty fucking awesome. It makes me want to learn more about it.

Have fun! The weather is good today so take your time to enjoy.

Actually I already left! I had some chili crab and chicken rice, and got to see some of the sights. I didn't get to do even close to all of the things I wanted to do, though. Guess I gotta come back soon :)

I had a friend make a joke that Singapore is the nicest dictatorship that I'll ever visit. How serious/not serious is that? I'm not too familiar with Singapore's political climate.

'Authoritarian' would be a better word to describe the government. You may not agree with them, but it works.

Singapore is not a dictatorship. We are democratic (more accurately, a republic) so we vote in our leaders. The main issue is that the same party have been voted in since our independence about 50 years ago, and the opposition has basically shrivelled up over time.

At least it's not as awkward as calling it "benevolent fascism".

Personally for me, there's a bit of disconnect- like "I kinda get what you're saying but it doesn't feel that way?" sort of thing.

Thats normal, and i dont blame them. Singaporeans have overly simplistic views of other countries as well. It is natural, after all, you never completely know about a place until you live there.

That's cool. Does the ruling party make it hard for other parties to get a leg up, or are they just so good that the populace might as well vote them in again and again if they're doing things right?

Are there term limits in place for elected leaders?

Both really. The opposition is not in a shape to challenge the incumbent rule, but the constant gerrymandering does not help them at all.

We have no term limits for our political leaders.

I think the biggest reason why there is a lack of political plurality in Singapore is because our country is small and democracy is very young. 50 years is nothing. It's barely one lifetime. Considering the huge strides in progress we enjoyed from independence, and the fact that many people who were alive in that time are still alive today, how can anyone really realistically expect there to be a huge shift in political power when things remain stable? That's not to say people shouldn't be politically aware or active, but don't expect things to change quickly without cause. Change for the sake of change is never a convincing argument for most people, which is why the PAP remains heavily favored even when things aren't as great. I don't expect that to be the case forever.

That's true, me studying in UK really opened my eyes to a lot of things I never used to think about.

I see, thanks!

It's the exact same party that brought us "from rags to riches", so for the most part they have a lot of good faith/benefit of the doubt from the people.

Do you mind me asking what some of those things are? I'm curious.

Doing a good job counts for a lot, yeah XD. Thanks for the information everyone.

To hell with Singtel. They were the first to drop it to 2GB and the rest followed.

Well if you're on the Singtel 3GB plan now, it's just $10 to bring it up to 9GB. Anyway, what I said previously is probably going to happen next year or 2018.

Yeah, I've recently come to this conclusion myself. I've been selling most of my old stuff on Carousell as I am moving out in Jan and don't want to move so much stuff to my new place.

I'm one of the remaining people who haven't recontracted and am still on the 12GB plan from years ago. It's awesome to never have to worry about my cap, but I'm almost certain that they are throttling my speeds.

I'm actually thinking of getting the StarHub data upgrade for like $6 more per month.

and I really need to declutter my room. selling some of them on Carousell seems like a huge hassle though

Probably. But you do know 4G speeds are significantly faster than 3G right?

Also being on the old plans means you are on a handset plan which are higher-priced because they are priced under the assumption that the subscriber recontracts to buy a subsidized handset every 21 months. SIM-only plans start at $20 for 3GB of data and are no contract and with the data upsize plans, you can probably reach a pretty high data cap at a lower cost.

Holy shit I never figured you were Singaporean.

I just use prepaid and pay 10$ total each month for 1GB...
I barely ever call/text outside of whatsapp and most of the time I'm connected to whatever wifi is available. Podcasts, dropbox photos etc are set ti only syncs over wifi.

I guess you guys watch a lot of HD video in the MRT to fill up 12 GB?

But the money I save from that I spend on my 1Gbps fibre internet that never reaches those speeds :D

I used to stream radio and spotify all the time while on trains. My commute is about 1.5 hours each way while I was in Singapore.

I don't use up the 12GB, but 2GB was definitely not enough.

I have since moved to South Korea for work though. But I still pay Singtel like 10 buck a month just to keep my local number. Seriously, I am paying them 10 bucks a month to do nothing. It used to be 5 bucks then they doubled the price after a year.

I hate singtel.

Ah yeah I would hit that with Spotify easily that way. I have some playlists that I sync for offline use instead as I'm often listening to the same stuff anyway.
Also because I only want to use the "extreme" quality setting (320 kbps) and that eats into your data when streaming.

And my prepaid is singtel. It's been ok :p

You can sign up for Spotify Premium via Singtel now at a cheaper rate ($8) than what you would pay Spotify directly and Singtel would give you unlimited bandwidth for Spotify streaming (ie. would not count towards your quota).

Does that work with prepaid mobile and coming from a student rate spotify premium?

Had been on the 6GB plan (Combo 6) when an authorised dealer that I bought an iPhone 6s from suddenly decided to give me a free upgrade to 12GB, unlimited calls and sms. And I'm only paying 70% monthly from being part of a Singtel family Circle (current home mioTV and internet main under my name, with 4 family members nominated). But I know I won't enjoy this benefit when I settle down in my own home early next year.

Have always been tempted to triple my data plan to 36GB at extra 10bux per month lol

Anyone tried tai cheong bakery egg tart at Taka? Why does it still has such a long quene after so many months?

Is it worth the queuing?

If you were in the Evo2013 thread, he cheered for Xian.

Tai cheong egg tarts are the real deal. The queues have died down a bit I think? I went a few Sundays ago and had to stand in line for no more than 10 minutes. I still prefer the egg tarts at Wah Lok @ Carlton hotel though. Fluffy Pastry > Biscuit Pastry - I will fight anyone on this.

If we were to judge egg tarts on custard alone, I think Tong Hong wins. However, I am not a fan of their crust.
