Salt and Sanctuary |OT| Salt for the Soul

I started the game today and killed the first boss.
Yup, this is 2D Dark Souls. I went for the Hunter, because I love Bloodborne.
Not sure how I feel about the leveling system just yet.

Also, the way the first boss changed his attack patterns in Phase 2 and 3 was a little bit bullshit.
I guess this supposed to prepare me for the other bosses in the game, but it's not the best way to handle stuff like this.

I been trying to kill the tutorial boss for 30m now...

Im guessing you are talking about The Sodden Knight, not the very first "boss" on the ship. Just keep playing and trying. Maybe farm and level up a bit. I had my problems with the game too, but eventually got really good it at. Typical souls(like).

Salt & Sanctuary is the first in which I would call a Casoulvania game - a mix of Dark Souls and Castlevania elements. We have Metroidvania, might as well have Casoulvania now.

Yes, a lot of bosses change up their attack patterns in phase 2 and 3.

have fun, this is the best indie game of the generation after Ori

to me it's 100x better than Disgrace souls 3, it has everything , great combat, great level design, variety of locations, lots of weapons and an awesome and a huge variety of bosses that are not 90% knights like Disgrace souls 3

the biggest problem with the game is the dark fog, i don't know why they put it in there it's annoying

and it's actually hard but don't lose hope and keep farming for leveling up, or you can unlock the super easy mode by using the Greatswords

Naw. Super easy mode is taking the two handed Mace/Axe nodes. Having access to both a Strike or a Slash weapon with every node? Amazing. It's what I did and I could hit either weakness with relative ease.

I am talking about the ship boss. I lose focus when I get it down to 50%.

Just dove into this last night. I like it a lot! The Sodden Knight did give me some trouble though. I beat him eventually but I feel like there are some mechanical questions that are still unanswered

-I noticed that after he had attacked with that powerful slow stab I could run past his sword without taking damage. Is that a consistent mechanic? Weapons only hurt if they're in an animation?

-I couldn't tell if there was consistency around invincibility frames during dodge rolls. Sometimes it seemed like I was vulnerable during the back half of the roll, I swear I got attacked out of it. Other times right at the end of a roll an attack that should have hurt me passed right through me

-On a similar note, I noticed that when he was in mid air for a leap I could pass through his body by jumping myself, but often could not by dodge rolling, and frequently would have him land on top of me and knock me out of the roll

-And finally was I missing some cue as to when he would or wouldn't quickly spin around to deliver a second slash? I got his patterns down eventually but there were still times where I would roll behind him thinking I was safe for a few attacks only for him to spin and knock me across the screen

Just finished. Good game but very easy. Lol my greatest enemy was my poor sense of direction. Two handed greatsword just annihilated everything in the game. Id love to see the studio get another go at it but tighten everything up a little bit.

Any good story/lore summaries knocking about?

You know this doesn't make you look clever, quite the opposite, right?

Also, DS3's bosses are 90% "knights"? Yeah sure, lol.

Strip out your armour to make sure you're at the lowest equip burden possible (I think it's under 30%?). Your roll will go way faster and you can easily i-frame through. Then after that you just gotta be patient. Don't get greedy etc.

Defeated the Queen, the alcemist and the yester. Neither boss was that hard, but the alchemist fight got very chaotic.
That new abiltiy is very useful and it seems like it gave me many new directions to explore.

I'm sticking with the Hunter build and I try to get the set for the Queen asap.

Recently I figured out that you can summon NPC to any shrine with the idols.
That's actually really cool.

Was but now I lost access as it was via family share and the relative refunded as they didn't like the game.

In case you need a map http://saltandsanctuary.wiki.fextralife.com/Maps locations spoilers, of course.
There's no online, only local PvP and Co-op.

I upgraded my weapon to Steel Centipede. It such a cool weapon, since it has the movests of a whip and a sword a the same time.
Also, I just defeated Tree of Man. Certianly the boss with the best visual design so far. The fight itself was pretty cool, too, but it was a bit too easy to get knocked of sides.

Yup, sword-whip! Best weapon if you want to cosplay a Bloodborne hunter (so long as you add a pistol in your left hand xD).

As a dex build on my first character, I fucking hated that boss haha. Wrecked him with a strike weapon on my strength build though.

I started as Hunter and stuck with it since then.

The aerial combo from the sword wipe made the fight manageable.

Just when I was about to give up I beat the Alchemist almost by random chance, but damn that was an un-fun fight. Are there like...items I should use to avoid poison?

There's usually an armor set that's good at resisting any particular element. An early one that gives good poison resistance is the rogue armor that's in a side area of the Festering Banquet.

Is there any way to get notified when a certain game goes on sale? I've been waiting for a sale on this the whole year and it had to get a 33% off discount just the week I was away for vacations.

The PS Store wishlist is completely useless in this regard.

Man, is the entrance of Pitchwoods one of the worst designed things ever or what. Three unblocklable/unparryable OHKO monsters that instantly attack while running that WILL follow you back to the Ruined Temple... avoidable by Megaman disappearing platforms that go offscreen. One missed jump and you are in the middle of the monsters. (At least the rhythm to them is as easy as it could be.)

Oh, you avoided all of that? Nice, some more monsters.

And you die you need to go down the the Sanctuary in the Ruined Temple all over again, including the corridor and platforms after the boss.

At least give me a closer checkpoint, seriously :|

You can try it from the Far Beach as well.

I have no idea what you're talking about. These monsters are not cheap and at all and are totally legitimately designed to be fair.

HAHA I SURVIVED THE OHKO FUCK YOU SPINDLE..... oh
For a second here
I thought that there was some sort of obvious trick dealing with them and felt really dumb, but then everything got OK.

It's... a constant how much harder new enemies are than bosses in the last third of the game.

I played this for around 12 hours and just got so lost i simply cannot find where to go next. I gave up as the map design really sucked which is a shame as i was enjoying it otherwise.
