They have to. They've announced that the game is coming out this year. You have to let people know.
Forza/Halo/Gears/Rare isn't enough to sell me a console either.
I hope they have more in store. They used to bring out so many new/fresh ideas.

i would've bought a XB1 for this if it turned out great and i still had a lot of faith in Kamiya. Then i bought a new GPU with this game and Nier in mind.

How is it a win that a game is cancelled? Yes you are putting it in the most selfish parameters possible but still. Come on, have some class.

Kinda the same here but being Kamiya I decided to give it a go. Look at Viewtful Joe, I kinda detested the first look of it. Thought it a ripoff, don't know why but I thought so bit I did have a lot of fun with it.

Why is this a common thing with first party games from Sony&MS? I can not remember a Nintendo game that had been announced and did not release (even if some games postponed sometimes like BotW).
It looks weird as if Sony&MS like to announce many bombastic games to get people interested in the first years of a new console and never really intended to release these games.

The primary problem would have been from management (Either Microsoft, or Platinum) allowing it to get to that level - but not sure you understand how bad crunch can get.
Yup, Nintendo gets a lot of criticism for not supporting Wii U but compared to how Sony treated Vita and MS is treating Xbox One I think they did right by the fanbase.

But yeah it's gonna be a huge win when Platinum goes out of business entirely, which is the more realistic route. But nice win for the piece of plastic under your TV!
Sometimes a publisher can be convinced that the work is not for naught and can be made cheaper than the equivalent game funded from the ground.
See Sleeping Dogs which was a great success, despite Activision not believing in it.
The work after that release was mismanaged again and now the developer is out of a job.
Of course realistically Platinum will skip the release under a different publisher and will have to cut.

With how quiet it's been I'm honestly surprised that Crackdown isn't already cancelled. The last I heard they were making some rather unclear noises about how much online connectivity Crackdown required and not seeming to have a good grip on the scope of the project. I expect they'll either have something big for Crackdown by E3 or we'll see a no fanfare cancellation announcement. MS seems to be having a lot of trouble carrying through a lot of their mid-level franchises from prior generations on the XBone.
RE: Scalebound. I didn't follow the game in depth aside from looking forward to a Platinum game, but I agree with others here that the game never seemed to know what it was. Character action? Panzer Dragoon successor? Multi-stage arena boss battler? Not to mention the MC looks like another smug, over-airbrushed model type like Dante from DMC. Who was this game for again?

I'm not saying the Xbox lineup isn't shit, I don't have one for a reason. I'm saying you can't put the blame on Scalebound for Spencer considering it seems it was largely Platinum's fault it was in development hell and Spencer wasn't even the President when it was revealed.

I'm sending well wishes to the teams that worked on the game. It is a net negative for games to be canned like this.

Disgusting fanboy post, you think companies would see this and jump on a new game with Platinum? Kamiya's reportedly dealing with mental health issues, over worked employees, that's not going to drum up confidence for multi million dollar investment. It's bad all round, may even put Platinum out of business.

I don't think it was all that terrible in hindsight. But god damn, that should have been in no way the first thing they talked about. Gamers were already annoyed as fuck with Microsoft at the time because they pretty much had next to no output in traditional console software due to pushing kinect so hard in the last year or so leading up to XB1. They literally didn't bother to even read the mood in the room and threw a bunch of fuel on to smoldering embers when they decided, "Heres an even more expensive system because of Kinect, and no you can't ignore Kinect because it has to be installed to even function!!"

And I already bought a console just for one game in the past.
I mean technically there's none because all their games come to PC now too. People who still care just want to make lists and score points on forums. Everyone else just wants to play fun games.

A press conference stage demo is not indicative of the quality of a game. There have been plenty of games in the past that showed well at E3 and turned out to suck. The opposite is also true.
